Does anyone actually give a damn anymore?

Are there any citizens still out there who retain a real interest in the game? Because frankly my interest has just about died. The turnchat summary thread hasn't been updated since February 23rd, which makes it oh so easy for us citizens to stay in touch with the game. And the arguments over the Chief Justice's position just go on and on, becoming ever more personal and offensive. An argument that only arose because there's so little interest in the game that no-one can be bothered to even stand in elections. I and others (especially Strider) have posted numerous times trying to remind people that the game is supposed to be fun and we should be trying increase the interest rather than driving people away, but no-one listens. I don't know whether this is simply how all demogames end up, or if something has just gone badly wrong with this one. This is my first demogame and all the interest and enthusiasm that I had at the start has now just drained away.

So if there are any citizens still out there, desperately clinging on to the game, here's your chance to speak up. Or if you're on the verge of giving up all hope, well have one last post here and tell the world! Maybe if enough disgruntled citizens speak up, someone will sit up and take notice. But don't hold your breath.

I plan on staying even if I have to take the game and finish it myself. Its got a very interesting terrain with many problems to overcome and a very interesting tactical situation as well.

In addition it is a bad time of year..I know from my college dasy that March and april suck as far as free time goes. In addition its startig to be spring time, why stay inside and post on forums when you can be outside. As far as the "election" issues..they can all be linked to one persons "illegal" idea. In my opinion that one idea and another idea that person had has done more to kill this game than anything else.

Also the "sour grapes" attitude of writing a new CoL and proposing a confirmation poll because the Judicary wasnt doing it your way or in the order that you wanted is the other problem. People need to understand that this game is bigger than an individual and if you get over ruled by the majority or an elected/appointed official does something..you only look foolish ansd immature to use such tactics..instead run against them or not vote for them.

I think the info department need to be aware that the turnchat thread hasnt been updated..that falls under their area.

:nono: This is punishable, so I wouldn't do it if I were you. This game will finish

I'll put it this way, I don't think our problem is that people don't give a damn. Our problem is that people need to give less of a damn.

With that said, this honestly isn't that big of a deal. I wouldn't beable to say I've never had a fight with Donsig over legal interpretion before. I can say that I've never been in a fight with Curufinwe over legal interpretion, but I've had many debates with him over politics.

Yet, even with many fights I've had with them, I still feel perfectly comfortable sending them a PM, and not getting a "F you" message back.

I repeat, or atleast I think I'm repeating, I might just be saying this for the first time. Anyway, controversy and debate is good for this game. Our problem is that people just take to way to far.

what I meant is if everyone leaves and I am the only one left....I know the rules about playing.

Losing interest, for instance look on the main page of here, judicial reviews etc. now im probably the only one but i prefer short posts they hold my interest for longer, so yes if people want to post epic novels do so but have a short footnote saying what you mean in a couple of lines. interest began to wane i think when we moved the citizen groups to a seperate forum.

I think that part of the problem is the growing pains of the new DG. If i'm not mistaken, i don't think there was a Civ2 DG, so the influx of new players to the Civ4 demogame in addition to the Oldies from the orignals DG's has created a bit of conflict as everyone is carving out there place.

Another problem i think is the stubborness that we all display. I thik most of the people here(including myself) don't take the time to step back and look at the big picture that the game is suppossed to be fun and that some things go your way and some don't. I know personally that i was very caught up in the Tri-Flex races, even thinking I would stop playing if we chose flex. but now that i look back, i see that it just would have meant a diff CoL, and the game would have been just as fun.

As a whole, we could all be a little less stubborn, allow our selves to listen to other people, give them the chance to pursuade you. Apologize if your wrong and try to fix it. It seems here that many people don't want to chnage there minds, the think there right and your wrong. While you maybe right, look at the popular opinion, allow yourself to see new arguments.

I know this post is getting long but i must keep going. Another thing we have to remember is that times and opinions change, so you should get to caught up in everything. I know that during Striders resurgence after his 2 month break, and his subsequent attack on Political Parties, I really didn't like him, and i admit i was mean to him. But now i think he is a great asset to the demogame and am glad he is here. With Donsig, i thought he was great for newbies and the citizens for along time, but now we're in a bit of a...... squabble. You just have to remeber times change.

Be nice, Listen, and Respect others. I know those sound like kindergarden rules, but if we followed them a bit more here, I think we would get a bit more particiaption.

:old: Well, if ya ask me, I'd say it was all the fault of that conspiracy theory freak, Cyc! :mischief:

Although you people made a good attempt at putting together a DG, I think you just designed it to be a little too complicated for your own good. The newbies in [civ3] DG1 were totally blind to the pitfalls as we wandered down the path of our existance. And it was fun. I never had so much fun with a hobby accessable only through a keyboard. Maybe you were trying to build the perfect machine to use without testing. Maybe I don't know what I'm saying.....

I do know that I have been monitoring this game, and have become bored. I also know that the RPG hooked me and I love to read it. I'm so glad that people like to be involved in storytelling. Maybe you need more of that here, rather that expert players. Just a thought. Good luck.

Cyc

I lost interest in the [civ4] part of the game because trying to follow what is going on is impossible without loading the save and attending the chat. I participated in the tech discussions and decision making only to have our decisions overruled in the chat - so what's the point of participating in forum discussions?

Aside from that there is the mentality of electing officials and then standing by while they make the decisions (at the chat no less). The judiciary is the last interest in the game for me and even that's going to heck in a handbasket because the sitting CJ is more worried about warming the bench than seeing we have an impartial judiciary we can all be proud of.

See Donsig, yourr mentality is part of the mentality thats bringing down the game. The menatlity that since someone doing the opposite of your opinion means that yours doesn't matter. See my post for stubbornness. Your the one making him warm the bench. Donsig, not everything is going to go your way, not everything is going to anyones way. You win some you lose some. You, and everyone, have to get over the battles you lose. I'm sorry you feel the way you do Donsig, but your wrong, and in your wrongness you dragging down the game. Not just you, but the people who can't roll with the punches, the people who get hit, and istead of getting up and fighting, have a press conference and whine about it, hopeing the dude who punched them will say "Just shut up already, here you can have the belt." I know that you can be a good player Donsig, you just need to look at the big picture and get out of your current funk.

just making sure, anything more for the judiciary would lock it up for monthes ;)

dont worry BH..I have been making sure anything I do doesnt attract a JR.

I should have been more clear in my first response...I was typing one handed due to a accident that involved me getting stiches so I was trying to keep it short

Yep. Given that there are folks interested in still playing a demogame, the only alternative to playing the current game would be to abandon it and start a new one. I'd be very surprised if that solved any problems we are having with the current game and would add new ones, such as: why bother to invest time and effort if everyone jumps ship as soon as it hits a rough patch.

This is a pretty long rough patch! Have you checked the activity levels in the forums lately? If the rough patch doesn't end soon we'll never get anyone back.

Rough Patch? You guys are imagining non-existant problems.

If it's such a huge problem, then why the hell are we just discussing it? Get out and do something! Hell, I could think of a thousand various things everyone can do to help me out. All you have to do is ask.
