Does map generation climate choice affect which resources show up on the map?

Hi all,

Does map generation climate choice affect which resources show up on the map? Or does it only affect how much of the land is occupied with jungles, forests, mountains, hills etc...?

For example, if I choose the climate to be cold on a pangea map, do I reduce the probability that bananas will show up as a resource?

Since bananas can only appear in jungle, and jungle is much rarer on a cold map, then you will reduce the number of them present (there'll probably still be some even on a cold map).

Similarly Silver, furs and deer will be scarce on a tropical map, since they only show up on tundra or ice.

mr cynical, that is plain wrong info.... Bananas show up on grassland as well. Further, I have seen silver, furs and deer on non tundra and non ice land.

Here is the problem I am facing. I want to try the Boreal or RainForest map, but the lack of variety in luxury resources does not let me city size grow as much as I want to be. I am curious if I had different settings for a Pangea map, say " cold", would I still get all possible happiness resources on the map?

Capital map script boosting at the start makes that happen, not the map settings.
Bananas on grassland only happens when you got capital near jungle. Same with the other resources.

Just make a game with those settings and enter worldbuilder and check.

That's due to the capital beautification element of the map generator. The jungle overlay will be removed if the tile falls in the fat cross of a civ's starting tile. (Similarly furs, silver and deer can all appear on plains, but only through this boost to starting location). Judging from the odd bug in this system, this happens last, so won't affect the odds of resources appearing.

I can see why furs and deer are available in cold lands only... but why silver?

Doesn't make a lot of sense. Athens had a massive (by the periods standards) silver mine at Laurium and the Spanish mining operations at Potosi were the biggest silver mines of their time. Neither are tundra/ice areas.

I am not looking for climate accuracy =) All I wanted to know was why on some maps I get so few variation of resources, examples are RainForest and Boreal .
