At least it did on Civ1... But does it cheat on Civ3 or how the **** is it posssible for AI to (at deity level) build cities and units as fast as it does??? I mean when I have build three to five cities and two to three units in them the AI's civ's already has ten+- cites and units to wipe my puny civ out of the planet...

I know that it's good that the game is better when it's hard but wouldn't it be better if were fair???

Just one Civ3 player who has never won on deity level...

I suggest you search the forums for this. The AI doesn't "cheat", in that it does follow the rules of the game. However, the rules are different for the AI than for the player. Eg. the AI gets "free" units at higher levels whenever it starts / fouonds a city.

Yes, the AI cheats. Above regent, the AI has four main "cheats", but those can all be altered in the editor. Those four are:

1) It starts with extra military units and workers.
2) Production and growth costs less (90% on monarch - less on deity)
3) There's less corruption
4) The AI civs givs each other rebates when trading.

For general cheats (like AI knowing the position of your units), check the thread:http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27273&highlight=cheat+guide.

TheNiceOne: good summary. Still, I wouldn´t call it cheating, since they follow the rules. They just get a bonus (just like the human gets on Chieftain and Warlord). Maybe it should be called handicap or something. :)

Why?
Because like all other AI's, Civ3's AI is not really an AI..
If you call it an AI, it would be a damn stupid one ;)
Without the AI cheating, there would be no Deity. etc.

Padma: :lol

TNO: your link is not working :( ! for some reason it only leads to http:// ! Please edit it...after all you wanted people to check it, i suposse ;)

As of v1.29f the AI to AI rate does not change with difficulty but the AI to Human rate now does.

For general cheats (like AI knowing the position of your units), check the thread:general cheats.
Fixed your link.

Hurricane, I agree that the difficulty-imposed "cheats" are better classified as handicaps...

The above link to the cheat guide thread should be fixed now.

Padma, your comparision would be much better if you had written "Do the bear kill hundred of sheep?". Some farmers would agree and tell stories about how many sheep are killed by bears, while the truth is that very few sheep are killed...

The same goes for CIV3. There's a lot of stories about AI cheating. Most of them (but not all) are false.

BTW, it needs pointed out that the AI only gets these bonuses on difficulties above Regent (I know you said this TheNiceOne). Below Regent, you are getting the bonuses. At Regent it is close to fair.

Is that to make it challenging, or to frustrate some players? Just wondering - please don't take offense to it.

How can a computer cheat? It is programmed to follow rules. It gets bonuses. Quite frankly, following your guys' logic, if you play on anything less than regent you are a cheater. CHEATER CHEATER CHEATER!!! ehem:crazyeye:. Anyhow, Civ 3 is extremely complex. It is hard to make an AI that can follow all the strategies around. If they could make the AI that "smart" then the game would come out by around 2010, and would take up 5 gigs easy. So give it up. If the game is too hard for you at too high levels, play at lower levels. Firaxis gave us an editor for a reason, so you could EDIT THINGS THAT YOU DON'T LIKE. well not to sound like too much of a fanboy, i must admit, corruption pisses me off. Therefor in all my games, i make temples, cathedrals, libraries, and universities lower curruption. Problem solved, after i get a library courthouse, and temple in a city, it has relativly minor corruption and waste. So see there are ways to over come these problems without starting a 40th post on whining about how a program that is following the rules is cheating.

hbdragon88: Furry Spatula touched on it. We can't build an AI that is smart enough, and is small enough, yet costs little enough. (Maybe some day ....) So to make the game more challenging at higher levels, "cheats" are built in.

Oh, and Furry Spatula, yes it is programmed to follow the rules. But when the rules it follows are different than the rules we have to follow, we call that "cheating". :D

Well this is mostly symatics but i dont think its cheating. It is called a handicap or a advantage. If you are playing Steet Fighter for instance. If you give the other player a higher handicap setting does that mean you are cheating? And again. If you play lower than regent you are cheating. And i am currious as to how many of these threads are brought up by people who are anoyed that they lost on monarchy, diety etc. But anyhoo, I agree padma, one day we will all regoice and there will be an AI that we can play against on Civ __(insert number) and it will behave very inteligently. And then it takes over the world like the Matrix  j/k

You're right, it's largely semantics. And yes, at lower levels the AI "cheats" in your favor!

Well, I'm not sure if it's designed this way or not, but in my current game the AI I'm at war with is able to take advantage of my neighbor's roads' movement bonus without a Right of Passage agreement or any other agreement with them. Whenever I try to walk the same roads I'm unable to utilize its movement bonus.

Btw, I'm playing at Warlord level. Is this normal?

:( AI really cheats often, but..... isn't it a gret pleasure defeating AI on Deity game without milking and reloading, isn't it great to realize that your brain worth much more than this stupid peace of iron;) ;) ;)

Padma sorry one last thing about this so called cheating :D

this is from dicionary.com

To violate rules deliberately, as in a game: was accused of cheating at cards.

So therefor because the computer has different rules it is not cheating. They still follow the rules however they are differrent than ours. So people stop calling it cheating its a handicap, and thus the problem is solved and you dont need to complain.

THREAD CLOSED :D

And the same with all future threads, as i proved that the AI doesn't cheat :D.
