Well it hasn't gotten to hate, but civilizations on the other side of the world are annoyed. MPPs on my continent have quelled that and we have a NATO equivalent. :) Communist superpower, two major powers (Aztecs and Greeks) and a friendly Gandhi to the south -- all three democracies. Gandhi is essentally a puppet.

There seems to be a lot of mutual suspicion between us and China, Iroquois, Russians. The English (polite out of fear) are going down the tubes fast and are ripe for conquest, but they are too far away to do anything about it. I don't want that ivory to fall into China's hands.

China and the Iroquois have attacked India in the past. So I can't be friendly with them without pissing off Gandhi. Gandhi gets annoyed when I trade with them. They get pissed when I deal with Gandhi. Gandhi is my immediate neighbor so is a nice buffer state.

Spies..... I've got to conduct espionage and propaganda missions. How well do propaganda missions fare in getting a city to flip?

Yes, and that is why they will ALL PAY!!!!!!!

Oh, wait, you're talking about Civ...never mind...

:satan:

Everyone is annoyed with me but I am the super power so everyone's scared of me and they are too busy fighting each other...The English and Americans are starting to tkae control of the other main continent whilst I control most of the other continent.

The AI is like Gollum. If you have contact... "we hates them, nast hobbitsss, hatesss them allll.... gollum"

I have two games I play. The first I build a moderate military and strong infrastructure. Generally I get ganged up on by pretty much everyone.

The second I concentrate on becoming a military power and lose cities to culture flips - weakening my army and reducing my ability to produce units so I get ganged up on by pretty much everyone.

I think I'm still ruining my reputation despite trying not to early in the game.

I see a need for more diplomacy, trade agreements, MPPs, etc.

Firstly...

lol!

and secondly, it seems that most civs only are nice to more powerful civs (check ur histograph) to start with. After this it's your reputation and the state in which you start wars with other people that matters. I wouldn't expect trades with one civ to affect relations with another civ, unless you have an embargo (which i guess you'd have to cancel before you could trade anyway)

monarch and above, u can expect to be hated by everyone...u have to bend over backwards to get them to be polite.
in my current game, i am the iroquois, most powerful civ around.
we started off with 9 civs and after consolidating power by eliminating the persians, i set out to build a err.....peaceful empire.
the english knocked out the egyptians and on the other continent, the americans knocked out the aztecs and japan and germany shared equal parts of rome. greece stayed small and neutral...with a whole bunch of cash (switzerland, anyone?). i couldn't resist ww2 implications so i made an alliance with germany and japan against america and england. i have reduced england to a few scattered cities and i'm concentrating on america now.
i couldn't figure out why america was knocking out both germany and japan and then i took a look at the resource availabilities.
turns out america has denied rubber to both of them. when greece joined us against america, they lost their rubber and oil as well.

now i'm having to supply free rubber and oil to the three of them and also pepping up the crumbling japanese economy with 30gold/turn.
u'd think someone would be at least polite. hell no, they are furious with me cos about 30 turns ago i left the alliance momentarily to concentrate on england.

they are gonna pay if and when i get thru america.

They are indebted to you. You need to gouge them for rubber and oil. They need it and will pay for it. They will sell off city improvements or disband military units to pay you. They are leaching off you, and hate you for having to do that.

I just reached the Middle Ages in my most recent game on a huge map with 8 civs. The Greeks are the only others on my continent. I'm in a Golden Age, and am building cities right and left to monopolize as many of the luxury resources as possible, even though the cities aren't connected to the main part of my empire yet and are thousands of miles away. I found about 8 ivory resources and about 5 incense resources in this spot and have made a wall to keep Greece from getting there. I'll build the Forbidden Palace there when I get a chance.

Yup, the rest of the world hate me.:( Since I always say no to all demands, most of them tried to take my kingdom away from me by force, but of course, they won't succeed; therefore, they're all furious with me. "Oh please! This war isn't over - not by a long shot. Come back when you have a more credible threat.":D

YEs the rest of the world hates me

Got nothing to do with civ3 though but rather my insane experiments on unsuspecting scousers and their even more unsuspecting pets.

Come here little scally lad MUHAHAHAHAHHA

In my current game I have doesnt start a war, simply go for the diplomacy, trade and stay neutral. So for have someone polite I have to give them some gifts but nobody seem to like me. Very discosting :(

Do you ever seen someone ''gracious'' ? Very difficult only germany was in one of my game during two turns. Can someone here can have a leader ''gracious''?

AI Diplomacy is merely a bean-counter. So it makes no difference how nice you are; there is no human factor. If the AI thinks it can get an advantage somehow it goes for it however shortsighted that move might be.

Also, the AI never forgets some alleged transgression against some other civ, even going back a millennia on another continent. It also sometimes blames you for stuff you never did.

That's why.

We really could use an Eifel Tower Wonder (as in Civ 2) effecting civs' attitudes.

I've had these guys demand, demand, demand. I always go for a counter offer. I clear the table, and see if I can gouge them for something. If I can't I'll trade territory maps. That is usually an acceptable deal.

Another aggravating thing to do is when a city defects to you is surround the units there and demand they leave. The civ can't move them so they disband the units. It's particularly nice if the units are advanced units. But they'll leave workers there to provoke you.

If you've got an RoP with one of those civs that are being very demanding, send a few workers and plant forests around a couple of their cities over their irrigation. You're doing something nice for them right? And starving their city in the process.

yeah everyone hates me
but the reason may be that i basicaly lie cheat steale what ever i can and start as many wars as i can

oh and the fact that i have kicked all their asses on a daily basis might be a factor :D :king:

Here is one way to make them "gracious": Every few turns, you call them up and give them exactly 1 gold as a gilf. Yup, that would definitely make them "gracious". What can you buy with 1 gold anyway?:D

I've got civs gracious if they had been my friends in polite mode for a while, and then there was some war and I sign an alliance or MPP with them and we both send out our forces.

Now THAT would be SWEET :goodjob:
And I think it would have looked cool in the city view too.

Has anyone seen any info on wether there will be wonders included in the XP? I have a feeling there will not be...a strong feeling. :(

ok, maybe i overdid it just a tiny bit.

the americans only had 1 source of rubber and i took it.
the japanese have stopped the american advance and are taking
american cities 3 at a time. me and the japanese have mordern armor and americans are now fielding cavalry and riflemen. this is not looking good at all. i created a monster and now i'm gonna have to deal with him.
