Bren's land isn't THAT bad, just some of it is, like the tundra towns. Leave those parts alone. Keep up the good work.

I vote 2a) to declare on Bren ASAP while tech to steel--> RP-->rifling. which city is your Iron work city? I think the SoL is worth a shot after rifling if no other civ knows democracy.

Bren has, if I recall correctly, two cities north of Ash and the island off the coast. You are still fighting the germans and that would provide the germans with a nice target. You''d have to station a sizeable force in those territories to protect them, at least until you have a fleet to protect them. Alex by contrast has only a single city and that would require only a small force to garrison. There's little risk that Ash would actually conquer anything of Alex', whereas the same can't be said of Bren's cities.

The attack on Bren is on more than one front, whereas against Alex his cities are on one front where DD's forces can attack Alex' cities one after the other and feed the new grenadiers into the attack as they become available. With Alex gone,there's no-one who can help Bren tech.

That's a vote for 1 a - what you labelled suicide.

I just want to say though, I think if you attack Bren, you're very likely going to end up at war with Alex, so make sure you get rifles (I still think though, you have to attack bren, I don't think you really have much of a choice at this point, just try to end it as quickly as possible, I'd almost say go straight for his capital, and blitz him best you can hoping for a quick capitulation). But definatly if you attack Alex, he'll most certainly bribe bren, no if ands or buts about it, so don't attack Alex, unless you want to face both. And be ready if you attack bren, for Alex to come to his friends help.

Also are either of them WHEOOH? If they are, I'd wait for them to make the first move, and react to it.

Alex hasn't traded or gifted techs to Bren, so there's a limit to his friendship. Alex is a right little backstabber, but Bren's not as bad and most of Alex's land is right in front of him and in truth better land than DD's England.

I say "2a", but with some modifications, do not declare war ASAP, wait until cannons are ready to be buil, then attack (but do not wait to get some cannons, start the war as soon as cannons can be built).

As far as I can remember Alex and Bren are like best buddies, so I say that DD must be capable of building cannons, in case that Alex backstabs DD while his troops are in Bren's land.

Also, do not keep worthless cities, raze them, otherwise the maintenance cost are gonna ruin DD's economy (even further).

do you think bren actually has something of value that alex will want bad enough to go to war with DD? he probably doesnt have any techs alex wants, and if you make sure he doesnt have any cash reserves before you declare war, he'll probably not have enough cash unless he stops research for a while.

No I just think Alex is an opportunistic backstabber, at least that's been my experience when I've had him in my games, it's a great AI to play against keeps you on your toes.

Have you tried making peace with Bismarck? You definitely should not attack him, and by making peace with him, you take unpleasant surprise from that crazily named continent out of the equation.

Hi everybody, thanks for your participation and your feedback...

Some additional infos, for questions brought up:

1. Bismarck doesn´t want to talk to DD, and I dont expect he will soon (AI´s stay hostile pretty LONG now after the last patch, if you dont kill LOTS of their units, at least in my experience)

2. Nobody (at least not on our conti) has "too much on his hands"

3. Bren has nothing (no tech, no money) Alex would want, so attacking Bren is saver from this regard (Alex, on the other hand, has heaps of stuff (including money) that Bren would like to have)

It would appear that atacking Alex immediately would be tantamount to slitting your own throat, so probably 2.

having said that, from the point of view of the story, DD would more likely be upset about germany's hostility, no? actually winning the game is somewhat superfluous, almost a by product of this exercise.

PLUS not to remind people, but you are england yeah? German Aggression ----------> English Intervention...

I've got a bad feeling about this.

Camelot would make a better capital than London. I'll give you that. Protect your cities facing Alex. Lack of strong garrisons will encourage Alex to attack.
