Don Quijote rules the world - SG for RFC

Although my suggestion for Iberian cities seems to have fallen on deaf ears, I think what we have looks good. If we build Cadiz, then we must not tolerate the presence of Lisboa, it must be razed 10 turns after its founding. This means we should to get our hands on Engineering as soon as possible so that we may build Citadels and monster siege units.

Does anyone have any idea where the indy city is in N. Africa? It looks like Rusadir/Melilla from what I see; which I believe to be a good city location.

From what Orono has written, it seems that he really wants to add Charles V's Hasburg possessions to our empire. If we are going to go after Aemona Iulia, we might as well take Milan as well. Burdeos/Bordeaux can also be a good city, but its a tad ahistorical.

Hope you like the set and please don't kill me for founding Barcelona on turn 5 :( I prefer a couple of strong cities rather than a ton of crappy ones ;)

No problem, that's the way to go if we want to win domination victory.
Good start!:goodjob:

Exactly, Lisboa has to go. I think we are fine stealing Engineering from somebody. Speaking of which, we need a courthouse in Santiago ASAP, so that we can assign a spy specialist.

Rome already has Engineering, so all we need is a great spy. Santiago should build an early courthouse.
That city in N Africa probably has both sheep and wheat, which makes it a very decent city.
Yep, the Hapsburg acquisitions are A MUST, since they are specifically mentioned in the rule 2.

It might also be a good idea to research Guilds next. It's necessary for our Astronomy beeline and it unlocks knights.

Turn 7: We discover Aemonia Iulia, which has Temple of Kukulkan. This means we won't be able to found Budapest unless we raze it. However, we can keep the city as well because this area did belong to Austria-Hungary...

That city is today called Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia. I don't know if it was part of Austria Hungary, but it is within Spain's historical settler map. (I recall AI Spain founding a city there ones, which called it Liubliana).

Nice set, especially the city placement. Only comment: I would build a scout to explore Europe. That only costs 1 or 2 turns and we need all the garrisson we have especially if France flips a lot of barb axemen.

Hopefully Germany and Russia will become Christian, and Spain of course, so we don't have to worry too much about our Balkan cities.

@ Blizzrd:
I suggest founding Sevilla or Cadíz, they both have pro's and con's. So that's up to you.

Also if there is no city on the Melilla tile (3 S of the Iberian peaks). I suggest razing the nearby Indy (ex-Carthagian) city and found it. It will have sheep, wheat and a lot of hammers. Additionally you could found Casablanca (near the ivory), but I would wait until Astronomy so you'll have a free harbor.

EDIT:
Exactly, Lisboa has to go.

I don't agree on razing Lisboa, we should focus on early Astronomy and leave the Portuguese alone. They will OB us anyway. If you all really want to conquer Portugal then I suggest founding Sevilla instead of Cadiz and keep Lisboa. Would've been better with La Coruña instead of Santiago, but IMHO it's not all about having the biggest cities. They will all become big enough anyway.

You're right, it really is Ljubljana. According to this map http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Austria1914physical.jpg (even though I hate using Wikipedia as a source) a part of Slovenia including Ljubljana was clearly a part of Austria-Hungary.(at least in 1914)

I also stated in the rules that we are not limited to our historical limits. We have to watch our stability though, so no massive ahistorical settling...

Good start Ororo.

Turn 0
We have 212g -2gpt at 100% science. 16 turns to Compass. We are in Slavery, but don't appear to have used the whip yet. Santiago switches to building a Work Boat and whips. Barcelona switches to Monument, we will need all the culture we can get to work tiles around this city before French/Roman culture creeps closer.

Turn 1
Madrid finishes Library, starts Worker. Santiago finishes Work Boat, starts Monument. Barcelona whips Monument.
Trade Horse to Rome for Copper + 2gpt. Trade Cow to Greece for 2gpt. We are going to hook up more of each of these resources eventually and effectively the ones we have just traded away are surplus to our needs. May as well cash in.

Turn 2
An event results in the citizens of Paris gifting food to the citizens of Barcelona. :D
Spoiler :

Monument built in Barcelona, start Library. Whip Monument in Santiago. Whip Worker in Madrid. Our Longbow destroys a Barbarian Swordsman in the Ruhr. I think that might be our last free victory against the barbs.

Turn 3
Madrid finishes Worker, starts Forge. All those good hammers nearby should be multiplied ASAP. Santiago finishes Monument, starts Galley. Meet Germany. Gift 10g and Open Borders.

Turn 4
Our Longbow in Bulgaria kills a Barbarian Horse Archer whilst defending. Santiago whips Galley.

Turn 5
Germany flips the Roman city near the Albanian Copper which cancels our deal with Rome. Trade Horse to Rome for Stone + Clam + Wine +2gpt instead.
Spoiler :

Santiago builds Galley, starts Library. France is happy, and prepared to part with 20g (10 turns of peace). Chopping of forests commences near Santiago.

Turn 6
Our Galley passes by the Independent Christian city of Rusadir in North Africa, which is defended by just a single Spearman. Meet Babylon and Open Borders. Gift Babylon 10g, they become Pleased and are prepared to gift us 1gpt (10 turns of peace). We have a common war enemy (Arabia) and if we get good enough relations with Babylon, we might be able to trade techs with them as they have several that we don't have and vice versa. Meet Vikings and Open Borders.

Turn 7
Load Swordsmen onto Galley. Gift Currency to Babylon to improve relations, but sadly no tech trading. Babylon is Christian.

Turn 8
Santiago finishes Library, starts Work Boat. Capture an Independent Worker on the Wheat near Rusadir.
Spoiler :

Disembark remaining Swordsman next to Rusadir. Barcelona whips Library. Request 30g from Rome (10 turns of peace).

Turn 9
Barcelona finishes Library, starts Warrior (we will need some happiness patrol duties in Madrid soon). Santiago whips Work Boat. Pillage mine outside of Rusadir for 17g.

Turn 10
Santiago finishes Work Boat and starts Courthouse. Barcelona finishes Warrior and starts another (more happiness patrol needed in Santiago also). Our Galley sinks an injured barb Trireme near Pompeii. Melilla (formerly Rusadir) is captured. Madrid whips a Forge. Buy Calendar from France for 315g.

Adopt Christianity.

Suggested to do list:
  • Found Cadiz (Madrid has a settler queued.
  • Build more work boats.
  • Spread Christianity to our cities.
  • Build a Spy.
  • Meet England.
  • Keep contact with as many foreign civs as possible to keep diplomacy and trade options open.

We should definetly found Cadiz on the marked spot, no Sevilla. No point to keep Lisboa either, it would only cause serious overlapping.

Anyways, looking good. Just make sure that no cities has specialists signed, except Santiago's spy, after the courthouse is finished.

A very nice set, blizzrd. Well done for building so much infrastructure in so little time.
The diplomacy looks good. We have 2 potential friends, which we'll share religion with.
The priority now is to get the courthouse done and assign a spy specialist.
We also have one spare sheep resource so nody will have to decide what to do with it. France can offer wheat but a happiness resource would be better (Persia might have some).
To add/remove the sticky note, just press ALT+S and click on a tile.

EDIT: Please, use the galley (or a swordsman) to meet the Mali! We really want to beat Arabians to Spiral Minaret...

Looking good. Let's hope that the rest of Europe adopt christianity too.

Just a quick question. What does that star next to Melila name means (while the city was independent)? It usually means that the city has versailles or forbidden palace, but I don't know what it represents for indy cities. It probably will explain why the city had so much culture.

Here is a better map of the Spanish Hasburg Empire.
Actually, Ljubljana is more historical than Budapest, which was Ottoman controlled during the time of Charles V.
________
If we build a city in the extreme SW of Iberia on the grassland, it won't be Cadiz, but rather it will be Palos and it will flip to Portugal when they spawn. I've noticed that Portugal will often found its second city there if given the opportunity. In that case, we can capture Faro instead and save ourselves the cost of building a settler.

Monument built in Barcelona, start Library. Whip Monument in Santiago. Whip Worker in Madrid. Our Longbow destroys a Barbarian Swordsman in the Ruhr.

The Ruhr-area is more to the north. I live near it in the Netherlands close to the border. Our longbow was fighting near Luxemburg.

And Cadiz is exactly 2 SW of Madrid, so I will found it there, because if I found Faro it will flip to Portugal.

BTW, cool the Babylonians are still around. I wonder who has the Christian holy city?
Other than I hate to see the Great Wall in Europe it's a nice map.

I will post my turns shortly.

And here it is!

Turn 212: We change the warrior in Barcelona to a longbowman, we already have a warrior that we need to upgrade and don't have enough gold for another one.

Turn 213: We meet the Islamic British Empire and the Kingdom of the Netherlands spawns.

Turn 214: We let our galley heal at the shores of Greece, which has build the Colloseum!

Civ4ScreenShot0002.JPG

Turn 215: Greece declares war on Arabia. We gain a new ally to our far-away enemy. We change the settler in Madrid to an explorer to let Madrid grow a little.

Civ4ScreenShot0004.JPG

Turn 222: Our galley that healed in Greece has picked up our lost longbowman in Babylonia and send it to garrison our new conquered city of Melilla. The two swordsmen there are healed and loaded into the galley for new missions. We found Cadiz on the only spot where it can be found.
Our explorer is on it's way to explore the unknown lands of Russia and Scandinavia, which are said to lay on the edge of the world...

Civ4ScreenShot0007.JPG

EDIT: About Santiago: I changed to workboat, then a worker and then I whipped a courthouse and now it desperately needs a colloseum.... I mean amphitheatre!

EDIT2: Use the workboat in Barcelona for the crab near Cádiz!

Guys, I'll only be able to play in the weekend. Since the enthusiasm in the game seems high, if someone wishes to play first, go ahead.

Otherwise, I'll post a plan in a couple of hours.
