Downgrading from Vista to XP

We should just all agree that Macs are probably the best computers on the market, if only they weren't so expensive. (although Mac mini's can be really cheap starting at $599, pretty cheap for a Mac)

The only people that use Macs are those that like shiny things or are taken in by Jobs' blathering. They don't win on any technical merits what so ever. If that Mac was $100, I might call it the best computer, but at $600 it can't compete with anybody. Apple vendor lock-in is even worse than Microsoft, and MacOS is basically just a graphical shell over BSD.

Aww, come on, Mac OS is a pretty good OS.

I'd probably use it part-time if I didn't need a Mac, or the effort of running it on PC, to run it.

Windows runs very smoothly on a PC as well.

Again with the broad comments![/Zoidberg voice]
No seriously, Windows can run very smoothly if the pc its running on has high enough specs. I dont really expect Vista to hum along on an old P3 system.
So please, lets not generalize.

So you tell aimee to not say stupid things, but you're fine if Zelig says them?
Im not being pedantic. if Zelig said recent pc's, and I commented on that, it would have been pedantic.

Aimee's stupid things are either wrong for all cases generally or not relevant.

And yes, to expect Zelig's post to apply to all PCs as opposed to PCs commonly in use today is being pedantic. If Zelig said recent PCs you would be wrong instead of pedantic. If this was just about correctness you should be on aimee too, as PPC Macs can't run Windows.

I'll just leave it at that, because I don't feel like arguing any further tonight.

I bid thee welcome to the rest of the world. How much of the world outside of the US and Western Europe do you think has access to modern pc's? How many millions of computers in a country such as Russia are relatively old by US standards? Those are still very much in use though. Can you run Vista or Win 7 on them though? Not quite.
Its not about correctness, its about not making broad generalizations to support one's point.

Well for the record, he did say Windows, not Vista, which covers a lot of ground.

Oh, you are correct indeed. I guess I kinda assumed he meant Vista ( wonder why? )
I still think he's generalizing, although much less so now. (ironically, by being even more general)

Well, I meant for that to be implied, Vista won't run very smoothly on a G4 either.

My original point being that Windows doesn't run any better on a Mac than on a PC.

And regarding the rest of the world, starter editions Vista (and I expect Windows 7, although I haven't looked at Windows 7 start), are extremely cut down and cheaper. Vista Starter is only available in 32-bit and has maximum hardware requirements including a single-core processor, 1GB RAM and 250GB hard drive space.

Is starter Vista a crippleware? (When you click on 99% of the features, it tells you to buy a bigger edition of Vista?)

And I had my Windows 98 until 2007. Good thing I switched in time, because it seems right after I got it all the programs I use stopped supporting Windows 98.

How dare you insult the Mac! I have to admit that they aren't cheap, and they aren't the best because of their price, however they probably run the best. They're speedy quick, and have great graphics. Even the internet runs fast, even if you have a slow connection. Although I've never been on a new computer, the newest I've been on is an '05 with 2GB of RAM running Vista Home Premium. Wasn't that fast. So I would say Macs are better, remember: Once You Go Mac, You Never Go Back.

2005 comps weren't built with Vista in mind. Macs don't have anything particularaly better than PC or Linux, although the OS is a bit more stable and (which is why it costs more) there is more control of the production of the hardware. It's really mostly a needs and personal preference really.

There are 6 versions of Windows 7 I believe, yet only 2 of them will be availiable to the average consumer in North America and Europe. THe others are a server, buisness and a couple of cut down cheap versions for poor/developing nations like Africa.

EDIT: Macs are also used a LOT by artists/graphic designers. Most of the computers at the college my dad works at are macs.

OSX is more stable because there is so little variety. The devs know specifically what hardware they're developing for, which makes it much, much easier for them to make an OS that is stable. The majority of Windows crashes are because of bad or mismatched drivers which is avoided with OSX.

There's a hack that lets you use the Mac OS on a PC, but I don't know much about that.

And one thing I can say about Macs is that they look cool!

And you can do this, too:
