Having finally decided to try my hand at a game of the month each time I click on the icon to download the websites just closes so unable to download. I suspect I am doing something particularly daft but I cannot work it out. Any help gratefully received

Hi, Welcome to CFC and GOTM. Some questions:

- What browser and operating system are you using?

- Are you trying to download the set up files or the start file?

NOTE: If you haven't downloaded and installed the set up files you need to do this first, but it shouldn't cause the problem you are reporting.

- Which link are you clicking to download, on which page?

- Can you right click it and select the "Download link to disk" option, or whatever your browser calls it?

Using Windows XP via AOL version 8

Was not aware there was a set up file so I need to find these

Was on page GOTM main index and clicking on GOTM 27 America when site disappeared

Right clicking does not offer any download option so suspect looking in the wrong place

Cheers - The golfer

Is this a consistent problem? Perhaps you should try with another browser.

As for the set-up files, you will need to download game packs. What version are you playing (Civ3 or PTW???) - I can provide you with the links direct if you are having browser problems. :)

Ahah! So you were not at a download link. It sounds as if your AOL web browser is complaining about the web pages on the gotm site even more than my Mac one does. At least I can see them, albeit they are distorted. Do you have a copy of Internet Explorer? You should have. If so, try using that to open the pages.

If you can get to the game page then you'll find the following instructions:
If you have not previously recently played and completed a GOTM game, then download the "Gotm21 Total Install" first and then add the Add-On packs for Gotm22, Gotm23, Gotm24 and then add on the Gotm25 game pack that matches your software. You can download the Game Packs from the game pages in the menu at the left hand side of this page. Please pay close attention to matching the game pack versions to the software version that you are playing as this will eliminate 95% of all the errors that have been observed in the past games.
In other words, as a new player you'll need to back track to Gotm 21, load up its game pack and then overlay the next 4 add-on packs, then follow the link to the Gotm27 start file.

The Golfer.

It seems that Browsing the internet is not your thing - AOL version 8 -

Please do your self the favour and switch to either Mozilla 1.5 or IE 6.0
