DPII's Unit Previews

If Firaxis goes with a style that eliminates all the super stuff created by many top creators I would surely cry.

AND above all continue play the Civ3, almost whatever.
I hope these odd news doesn't stop present creators for turning out more units that even make Firaxis units look almost crap.

My thumb up for these folks and thumbs down for Firaxis if they believe they can corner the market and keep all of their game with only their units.

If one looks at Firaxis's attitude toward the modding community, it IS basically one of indifference. They've really offered little or no support. And indeed, Conquests was supposed to include the player-made scenarios IN the Conquests CD, but it was eventually bumped to a Bonus CD.

Now, you contrast that with Microprose... they were definitely into the modpacks. They even included player-made mods in their game.

I mean, Firaxis had a real oppurtunity. The more interest that is generated for modpacks, the better it is for them! They could've opened a little online store and sold graphics to us, and we would've bought them! They could've sold programs like FLICster to help in the unit creation process and made even more money.

They could've found ways to help with cutting and pasting. There's all sorts of stuff they could've done and didn't. And that's unfortunate. It's unfortunate for us, and it's unfortunate for them. But it's their game and their company, and they can run it however they like.

All civ III graphics will be compatible with some minor operations, and it includes all the needed editors.

Well, you'd better wish me the best of free time, that's what I lack the most. It's coming along well. Expect a new thread for updated preview of unit editor in about 1 week

He's making a game. Separate from Civ... but currently, it uses Civ graphics. But when we artists get our full weight behind this, he won't need civ graphics anymore!

I'm happy to report that the palette/FLIC compilation process has gone splendidly, and I'm going to do some play-testing to get the centering down, and then I'll release them. So probably tomorrow morning/afternoon EST.

Older units... the Hwarang, the Zebra Rider (horseman replacement), the Koguryo Soldier, the Knight of Anubis, and the Velites.

I'm certainly not done making units. If I gave that impression, then I mispoke. I've made a whole long list here of units I have to make.


Either ones I've given previews for or have made promises to.... but actually, I've gotten myself an assistant who will thankfully be doing the palette and FLIC-making for me on at least a few of my units thus freeing me up for the rendering and animating.

About the rifleman, I haven't even touched a new unit since I've been working like mad to finish the old ones. So no updates as of yet.
