DPII's Unit Previews

Here's a new version... I also took the liberty of saving it with a better resolution.

Personally, I like the original better. From an visual POV, the second looks cluttered, and I'm dubious about too much Civ color against the red. Also, with the pic you posted, I think you've made your point well.

I realized that I actually got the design scheme of the Cuextecatl uniform wrong. I've corrected and made the red brighter.

I didn't care much for the feathers, so I ditched them.

I also added a series of yellow tassles around the base of the hat since it seemed like the hat, face, and shoulders were blending a little too much to me.

I'd rather he not have the boots. I look at boots as a result of cultural clothing. Germanics always had pants and shoes of sorts, and as their successor states grew to dominate the world, so did pants and shoes. If the Iriquois (moccasins) or Inuits went on, they probably would have had boots. The Aztecs I can't really picutre them with... maybe just sandals or bare feet.

Other than that it's real good. The hat you used makes perfect sense because, as you said, European rifflemen used them too. I think the reason they did this was because if grenades hit their hats they would roll off, so it's practical and uniquely Aztic. Great find.

Mask????

The jury's still out on the feathers... I mean, I like them somewhat because they do sort of bulk up the shoulders which I thought were a little weak when I made this.

Feathers on shoulders=good

Well, the unit looked like he was wearing a masked helmut(the color blending you spoke of) kind of made the guy look, well, cool. If you gave him the helmut look back, and put a bayonet on the rifle, he'd make a good Nepolianic-Era Flintlock unit. Flintlock and Rifleman versions...your a genius Dom Pedro II!

Hey, not that it'll be a worth a damn at civ-scale, but how about I stick one of these puppies on rather than a regular bayonet?

At least a metal version... very Aztec. :D

Wile E. Coyote in at least one of his cartoons addressed himself as "Wile E. Coyote: Genius." And then in one of them he, in a moment of self-congratulations, amends that to "Wile E. Coyote... Super Genius." And he says "OH! I like the way that sounds! Wile... E.... Coyote... Suuuuper Genius". And then he's promptly hit by a train.

As far as my units go, the Hwarang Archer along with the Zebra Horseman, Knight of Anubis, and several others that you haven't got there but I've mentioned elsewhere, are already rendered. They just need to be compiled into FLICs, which I HOPE to do tomorrow.

The Flying Tiger and the Macabee are my two biggest concerns. The others will get done eventually at some point.

Personally, I'd feel a lot better if aaglo stepped in and took the Flying Tigers off my hands because I really don't know if I can deliver anywhere near the same quality of unit. I'm just not experienced enough with building models from scratch.

Why not make your two latest versions, adapting them a little? First one, no boots, for a musketeer, second one, boots, for a rifleman?

I'm assuming because an Aztec musketman is already complete, courtesy of Utahjazz7
