DS3 - The secret war

I saw a post by meldor today where he was describing his efforts in another game. So maybe tonight.

I got bogged down in LK26. It is taking 1/2 hour per turn. I will finish this one tonight. If I can not finish it, I will let you know.

meldor, go slow! We all can sympathize with players who get bogged down by hlaf-hour (or even longer, see DS2) turns!

I personally do not mind if it takes you a little longer :goodjob:

no probs meldor!! was just curious ! ;)

take ur time, and conquer!

Will we begin using patch 1.29?

We probably should, it's very early in the game.

I've got 1.29 downloaded, but I'm hoping to hold off until I finish my current game which is somewhere around 1850 AD and nearing Domination.

Yes, in all likelihood I could install no problems. But I just figure that in case there would be some annoying glitch, I figure it's better to hold off on installing and then having to revert back to 1.21. I like to finish my games.

well do as I did, do a full backup, install, if it doesn't work, simply uninstall, then copy old files over new ones....

Gastric, remeber that this SG has to go through a number of people before it gets back to you.

Oh yeah, I know that. It's almost guaranteed that I'll finish my current game tonight--just take the final Japanese cities, then invade Babylon and somewhere in that trigger the domination victory.

370 BC (Pre-turn)
Do a round of diplo pick up a couple of hundred cash for the cause. We really can't use it yet as we are still depotic, but it will come in handy later.

350 BC (1)
We capture Grand River 40g and 3 workers.

330 BC (2)
We attack an Iroquois archer/settler pair, beat them and get the Great Leader Ramus. I have two choices, I can build an army or go for the Great Library. We could get Literature in 5 turns and then snag the Great Libary. Decide to build army and go for more Great Leaders. Building the Heroic Epic. The army will have Shadow warriors of course.

310 BC (3)
Will up our army and advace on the remaining Iroquois cities. Bix mark won't talk, so troops head his way. The Franch start the Great Wall.

290 BC (4)
Lots of movement.

270 BC (5)
Autoraze Allegheny and one more worker and 50g. Steal a couple of workers form the Persians. Capture Tonawanda, 62g and sink a galley. Cattaraugus is the last Iroquois city. The Indians complete the Great Lighthouse for us. We will be there in a little bit to pick it up. The Russians cascade tothe Hanging Gardens.

250 BC (6)
Give Biz peace for WM and 16g (all he had). India refuses to give us all their cities, we are at war (what the hey, the troops were there anyway. French start the Great Wall and the Hanging Gardens.

230 BC (7)
We get our first victory with our army. The heroic Epic is begun in Thebes. Cattaraugus is captured with 200g and a catapult. Oh yeah, no more Iroquois. Kill off some Indian spears, lose two horses though. Aztecs start the Great Wall.

210 BC (8)
Kill some more spears and capture another settler. India is send yet another settler out of one of the other cities. Troops move on both Bombay and Calcutta.

190 BC (9)
Kill another Indian warrior and take yet another settler. A jaguar Warrior appears out of nowhere and attack one of our Shadow Warriors. I am using one to pillage in Persia and another to go after the Aztecs.

170 BC (10)
More killing and general chaos. Indians start the Hanging Gardens for us. The Aztecs join them.

150 BC (11)
Preparing and Troop movements. Persia demands we remove the workers we just stole for him from his lands....OK. Russians complete the Hanging Gardens.

130 BC (12)
Things are moving slowly as troops get into position. Two shadow warriors duke it out in the Aztec lands, unfortunately ours loses.

110 BC (13)
We capture Calcutta two settlers and two workers. Pick of a stray horseman.

90 BC (14)
Looks like India rush built a bunch of archers and they are trying to get at our horsemen. Russians start the Great Wall, We get our first Galley.

70 BC (15)
Take out 3 spears and 2 archers in Bangalore but one 2 hp archer remains.

50 BC (16)
Bangalore captured and another worker. 3 stray Archers are killed. Bombay is captured with 3 workers, a settler and 2 catapults. Kolhapur is autorazed. India is down to only 4 cities. See, you knew you stuck around for those last boring turns for something. The French complete the Great Wall.

30 BC (17)
Movement and healing up. Will take a few turns.

10 BC (18)
India sends forth a mini-SoD of 2 horsemen and 2 archers. We laugh and rest. One horseman out of mini-SoD attacks a city, the rest run. We get the Heroic Epic. Meldor hopes he can get a second Great Leader in the next two turns or he may be shot.

10 AD (19)
Assualt of Delhi started. We kill 5 spears, they kill two Horsemen and there is still a fresh spear on the top of their stack.

30 AD (20)
Still can't crack Delhi. No Great Leader. We are up on tech, but I did no diplo this turn. No one had Lit last turn so we can still snag the Great Library if we can get a GL

DS3 Saved Game 30 AD

Hope it was worth the wait.......

We need to build more galley to find the other continent. I have build up a pretty large army of Shadow Warrior and its up to the next one to decide what to do. I would suggest using them to capture Aztec cities without declaring war. There are quite a number of Aztec cities among the hills and mountains and since Shadow Warrior treat all as road its a good unit to use against them. We should also grow the city to take advantage of the free units. Lastly, I played only 15 turns but if anyone feel they can take 20 turns please go ahead as the turns are still not too slow yet. :)

Here is the savegame.

got it, will play tomorrow morning, 20 turns :D

DarkSheer: i was appalled by the army, then realised it is actually not a bad idea! better than a swordsmen army, can easily beat Pikemen, almost as fast as Horsemen army.... why not?????

It was not my brightest move. It wasn't until after I had put them in that I realized they lost the all terrian movement. That was the biggest kicker. I probably wouldn't have done it otherwise. I also didn't realize that we could capture towns without declaring war. Otherwise I would have never gone after the Indians formally, and I would have built just shadow warriors. Sorry, it is the first time I have used a unit like them. Won't make the same mistake again. At least we have our end of the rock to ourselves now.
