I was having some problems with my PC randomly rebooting while in BTS, so I decided that I would try reinstalling from scratch. After doing so, I can't seem to find the option to pick the map type in the custom game screen.

I don't recall, was there something that needed to be done to get this feature to show up?

Can someone please refresh my failing memory?

Forgive my ignorance, but where do the screenshots get deposited? I hit Shift-Printscreen and a dialogue box appears in the game to save the shot, but I can't find it now.

Okay, I found the folder. But the screenshot that is in there was not taken until the game had left the custom screen and started building the resulting game.

What am I doing wrong?

just do the following: open the custom game screen - hit prnt (or prnt scrn - or whatever the print key on your keyboard is called). then minimize the game open any paint program (e.g. paint which is installed by default on windows) and click on paste and save the screenshot there :)

Here's my custom game screen.

:hmm:
please open the civilizationIV.ini and set all items with log in their name from 0 to 1 - then start a game, open the custom game screen generate a map and close the game again. Then post all files in my games\beyond the sword\logs as a zip file attachment here.

I held the shift key down after hitting the program menu, all the way until I got into the custom game screen and it still doesn't show the world options.

I did notice one other thing. When I went to customize the .ini file, I saw that there were two games folders. One was my_profile_name/games and the other one was my_profile_name/My Documents/games. The first one had an old date on it so I deleted it.

I wonder if I had problems uninstalling the game?

did you do all the below?

install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Civ4
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS)
(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Civ4, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here)
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.17 (download it fresh from here).

I did the the steps you recommended, although I don't have Warlords, so I skipped those steps.

The only Installshield folder I found after uninstalling was BTS.

There was no application data left after uninstalling.

I installed Civ IV and then patched it to 1.61 as suggested, but I noticed that BTS grabbed a newer version as it was installing. Is this what you expected?

After all that, I am back where I started.

No toroids.

yes this is as expected - it patches to 1.74 - but sometimes fails without the 1.61 being there first.
:hmm: is this true for all maps? maybe some of the mapscripts got corrupted (since they should be removed in a complete reinstall its very unlikely - but I am stabbing in the dark here
Edit: and of course: this is BtS you are trying to do this in, right?

I have not looked at all the different map types, but I have tried fractal and shuffle. I don't recall which map types have this feature, but I will run through the list tonight when I get a chance.

Yes I am referring to BTS. I don't recall if this feature is unique to BTS or if it was available in Vanilla? If it isn't available in vanilla, perhaps I missed some interim patch that I originally installed way back when?

Hmm, I am not sure what the answer is. If I look at the properties of both folders, it is shown as read-only. That seems to be the case for most folders. But I don't seem to have problems writing to these folders or moving folders there.

I defragged my disk after my original uninstall, so I wonder if Norton changed the properties of the folders.

Other than removing that bit from the properties, what would you recommend trying, another reinstall?

I just compared an older installation on my laptop (3.13) and I see that in addition to World Wrap, I am also missing the Resource pulldown which somes after it.

I do see that the laptop's folders are also marked read-only, but again I don't have problems writing to any folders on this system either.
