I just started playing PTW. All was fine until I was playing a game and started thinking about building Forbidden Palace. It was not available in any city! I checked every city to see if I'd accidentally built it...nope. Also checked if I was building it...no.

I don't get it...I have like 20 cities on the the same continent. Don't you only need 8? What am I missing?

8 cities is only for standard map I think. If the map is bigger, the # of required cities is higher...

It depends on your map size; 8 for a Standard size map unmodded rules. Modded rules can change this number as well.

I haven't had any trouble with PtW for getting the popup for building the FP.

It's not a set number, it's half of the optimal number of cities. It also varies depending on what level you're playing. This changes depending on map size. Just keep expanding, your Domestic Advisor will let you know eventually when it's available.

maybe the governour of some city set forbidden palace and you did not notice. when in mulitplayer i sometimes build catapult because i received no notice of change. if you previously built another wonder in this city you might have already completed it, without noticing.

That's not a dumb question... I always thought the number of cities was eight as well... i've never played anything bigger than a standard map.. so you learn something new every day.

OHHHH! I was wondering why I couldn't build the forbidden palace after 8 cities...it's been down to 11 cities or so until Ms. Domestic tells me my people want to build the FP.

If you mod the OCN, then you won't be able to build the FP until 1/2 the new OCN has been reached. For example, you set the OCN to 250, then you won't be able to build the FP until you have 125 cities under your control.

OCN by World Size (unmodded)
Tiny 12
Small 14
Standard 16
Large 24
Huge 32

Half of the above number will be when you can build the FP (6, 7, 8, 12, or 16).

Thanks for all your replys. 1/2 the optimal cities...good. It's just that I never noticed it missing before. This time I'm not being attacked that much so I've actually out-expanded my neighbors.

If you put the forbidden palace in the build queue for one of your cities it will be taken off the available build list for all of your cities even though it isn't visibly being built.

But then I think it would be grayed out, not completely gone.

Right. . . I've had this happen before (Not with FP) and it was a pain trying to figure out which city it was, going into each city and checking each build que. It would be nice, at least for the Wonders, to be able to see where it's being build/que'd, so you could move it, if need be.

Turner: press F1, then click ABOVE the item produced (shown to the far right of the screen), this will sort by what is being produced. clicking again will bring the last one to the top - so wonders are on top.

For the build queue: you need to cycle through all cities so better never put a wonder in a queue (or, if you do, remember where! It can't be too many places as it will be your power cities after all)

Bit off topic:

The Egyptians in my game were getting crushed by the whole world. Cause the capital kept on being captured or destroyed the palace kept on moving. And in Elphantine there was a forbidden palace AND a palace! I thought that was cool!

Not a dumb question, but please next time take a more descriptive subject for your thread, so that people have some idea about what they will read ... or not.

Right. . . I mispoke. I said 'building/que'd', meant just que'd.

Thanks, tho.
