Duplicate Icons

I like the Mayor's Office and either the Basilica or the Diet would work well for the Capital Admin.

We don't have that many icons left for the regular buildings. Right now, I'm looking for a replacement for Starport. What I would like to do is replace the current Naval Yard building. Naval Yard is currently using a button that started as Capital Shipyard in Final Frontier (the scene is actually in space). I think the ideal thing to do would be to find something that depicts a high-tech shipyard, swap that in to Naval Yard, and then let the Capital Shipyard serve for the Starport. We don't need to expand this game any further, so I don't think we will ever need a button for spaceship construction facilities.

We also need a new button for Utility Fog. Nanite Cloud, Nanite Spy, and Utility Fog all use the same button. I'm not sure if there is a good way to make a button for "fog that becomes whatever you want" in 64x64 pixels. This is one possibility; I took a screenshot of the Utility Fog in the Civilopedia (from the top down) and cropped out a square to make a button. I don't think it's that great, but I don't have that many other ideas.

I'm still looking for a solution to the Starport/Naval Yard issue. In the meantime, I put together a button for the Brihadeeswarar Temple. I've been focusing on regular buildings for the moment; I'll work more on National and World Wonders once all the building buttons are organized.

All look good :)

About Utility Fog:
How about something from Grey Goo?

I like the topmost image the most.

A lot of images don't work well when shrunk down. I'd like something that has a little bit more of the "green" flavor that the Utility Fog building model has.

That said, here's a couple of attempts at Utility Fog from those images.

I think I like the last one best.

This is what I am really thinking would be good. I took a screenshot of the NIF in NifSkope and then increased the intensity of the green. For me, it gives the "feel" of being a fog, but an unnatural fog.

Out of the top row, I like the third one the most also.
The green one also looks good :)

I think that the blue mesh (top right) is the best one. I'm not a massive fan of the green fog, so it's only number two for me.

I've been trying very hard to find a new button for Naval Yard. I haven't been able to find anything in any of the mods I have that looks appropriate for a high-tech shipyard.

Does this look OK? I took the structure file that is being used for the Naval Yard, cut it out, and superimposed it on a chunk of coast. I can rearrange the parts without too much trouble.

I also tried pasting the Naval Yard on the water background used for naval units. I don't think it's much better. It's too obviously stylized. I think I'm going to go with the first button just to get this over with.

Nice job with the grey-goo pics :goodjob:

I like the 2nd the most, and than the 3rd, but I don't really like the green one. Nanobots are considered grey for being metallic (or silicium) maybe with some blue for electricity, but green always stands for poisons and toxins. I would even recolor the model itself.

p.s. I think you should publish your buttons for others to download, even those that you won't include in AND. As I remember, already there were several buttons you created but didn't like despite being quality work.

Would the first grey goo button be good for the Nanite Spy, or does it need a better background? Nanite Cloud and Nanite Spy are using the same button.

I can live with the blue mesh button for the Utility Fog.

The blue apostrophe-shaped puddle would work for the Nanite Spy, yes. Maybe change the background to a chrome metal one though, to play up the cyberpunk theme.

I really don't like the Naval Yard with that heavy yellow theme. Couldn't it have a more natural colour instead? (The one on the coast looks better than the ones on the water, though.)

I like the yellow turned up. If I just shrink the Naval Yard structure down, it winds up being a lot harder to spot the details; a lot of pictures seem to get blurry when they get shrunk down to icon size. The images in an icon are generally about 50 pixels across. The point of these icons is to be recognizable.

Is this button usable? I found it in the Sci-Fi Buttons pack. I'd like to use it as a replacement for the Cloning Factory. The current Cloning Factory button is literally a factory. I think we could use that button for something more appropriate.

For reference, this is the Naval Yard button with using the base construction model and without the contrast turned up.
View attachment 406232

This is with the contrast turned up about half as much as the button I previous posted.
View attachment 406231

I think these buttons are less recognizable than the one I posted previously. The higher contrast makes it easy to identify as a shipyard and I think the bright yellow also plays into the "construction" theme.

When I say chrome, I mean metallic grey, like the HK droid in my user-page image:

The cloning icon needs more contrast: various blues on a pale background don't really work. Darken the background, perhaps?

I found a really good icon in the Sci-Fi Buttons Pack.

I would like to use this for Cryogenic Prison and the current Cryogenic Prison (the long rows of tubes) for Cloning Factory.

Yes, dark grey doesn't work that well (but it is better than that almost-white). I think a lighter grey would work well though.

I like the new icon. Could the building itself be renamed to Cryonic Prison though? Cryogenics is the science of really low temperatures, but cryonics is the business of freezing people.
