Hey guys,

Just a shot in the dark here.

A few weeks ago I upgraded from XP to Win7 64. Ever since I've been getting bluescreens all related to dxgmms1.sys, only after playing civ for a while. My hardware is kind of old, but it seems like a mighty strange coincidence to me that this has only started happening since the new OS. Nothing seems to be overheating, ckdsk seems ok. I guess I can't rule out hardware completely, but like I said everything was fine before installing new Windows (and all programs of course).

Lowering video settings ingame or running DX9 vs. 10/11 doesn't seem to make a difference.

From what I've read, that's a DirectX file. There's no way to uninstall and reinstall that in 7 from what I can tell. I've uninstalled and reinstalled my videocard drivers (Radeon 3850). I don't have the bluescreen reports as I'm away from my home compy; but given that limited information, does that sound like anything any body else has experienced? Should I maybe just wait for the patch? I can try to dig up more details if anyone thinks that will help.

So far I have it narrowed down to hardware, OS, drivers, or software. :\

When I put dxgmms1.sys into the German google, I directly get a hit for "dxgmms1.sys Win7 64 bit BSOD" :D (not saying you should have googled, just a funny coincidence).
The thread there (just in case, but I guess rather useless: link) suggests that it might be an issue with the RAM, either broken or doesn't have the right electrical settings (wrong voltage, or similar).

If you have enough RAM in your machine to play Civ5 without any problems, then you should take out one of the RAM dimms and see if you still get BSODS (if yes: Take the other one out).

Haha. Yeah, I've done a little research and nothing has worked so far, but that doesn't mean I've touched everything. :D

I've reset the voltages/etc settings in the BIOS (the instructions with the memory had said to alter the latencys a bit), but that doesn't seem to have helped. Next step . . yeah, I'm going to take out two of the sticks to see what happens. It's just weird to me that this has come up now, as the memory's been in there as it is for a few months now.

I'm hoping that German Google is right. I had fun trying to track it down at first but not it's just getting old.

American Google gets me your message above. :)
