Dynamic Civilization Naming - Submit Names Here!

I think it would be best if instead of republic or monarchy it will be only empire.
Ancient: (Pre-Birth)
Classical: Sassanid Empire
Medieval: Timurid Empire
Renaissance: Safavid Empire
Industrial: Qajarian Empire
Modern: Iranian Empire

Those are the exact suggestions I made a couple of weeks ago, but they're not the Qajarians. That particular dynasty is simply the Qajar.

I highly disagree with 6 different names for the same nation 2 is enough... maybe 3 for a few.

Celtic>---Celts Die>---British>---Conquers Scotland, Ireland, Wales>---English

Gauls>---Gauls Die>---French

Stuff like that and each nation would have a title dependent on their civics. Empire, Nation, and that kind of thing...

Maybe when certain countries finish HVGs they can change title by changing to an optional civic?

Peter was the first Emperor, so logically he had to have been the last Tsar. Catherine reigned after Peter so she's the one I suggested be associated with the Industrial era and the 'Russian Empire'. On the other hand, Tsar, derived from Caesar, historically meant Emperor anyway.

Just wanted to clarify that I didn't mean any offence with my comment. Your historical knowledge is very impressive. However, in Russia, Peter is the first person who comes to mind when you say "Russian Emperor", because he was the one who aggressively westernized the country. Ivan III would probably be the best example of the Tzar, because he was the first to take that title, and also worked on increasing Russia's international standing. Or Ivan IV (the Terrible), who was most popular during Soviet times. (As for the word "tzar" itself, it remained in popular use until the revolution.)

on the emperor thing:

In the Latin languages the title emperor come form the latin word Imperator. In French this gives Empereur. The English language is influenced a lot by French (1066 William the conqueror) so it became Emperor.
In the other Germanic languages, the Emperor title comes form the name of the first Imperator Octavianus Caesar (= Emperor Augustus) who took over the power from Julius Caesar. The emperors of Rome were named Caesar. In German this gives Kaiser, in Dutch Keizer (almost same prononciation). The Latin prononciation of Caesar sounds more like Kaizar anyway. Remember that all Germanic Empires of the West (Franks, Wisigoths, Allamanic,...) saw themselfs as vassals of Rome (later Byzatium). I always though Tzar was the same as Russia saw itself as the 3rd Rome (1st being, well... Rome itself, 2nd being Byzantium) so the leaders of Russia took the title that was rightfully theres.

Maybe it would be wise to use the generic title empire or emperor, but it would be nice to add some flavour and use the other titles too. (If Belgium would have been a civ, what would it be? The generic Kingdom of Belgium or the flavoured Koninkrijk België - Royaume de Belgique - Königreich Belgien?)

I also think that using the civic-bound names for empires could pose a lot of problemes. Example: Spain has a Hereditary Rule and Universal Suffrage. So Kingdom of Spain or Republic of Spain?

Hereditary Rule and Universal Suffrage are both government civics, so you couldn't have both. But I get what you mean. You'd have to base it on just the one civic type, I'd say government would be the obvious choice. Eg.

CIVIC - CHRISTIAN - ISLAM
Despotism - Spanish Tribes - Spanish Tribes
Hereditary Rule - Kingdom of Spain - Sultanate of Spain
Representation - Kingdom of Spain - Sultanate of Spain
Police State - The Spanish State - The Spanish State
Universal Suffrage - Republic of Spain - Republic of Spain

Good luck with that one. Maya was replaced with Mayans in a patch recently.

Good luck with that one. Maya was replaced with Mayans in a patch recently.

That is because Mayan civilization sounds much better then Maya civilization; however, after doing some research, Maya is more grammatically correct. I recommend that we leave it at Mayan to be consistent with the rest of the game.

Arabia (very hard this one... since the term is so contested to start with and how after the expansion of Islam there were seperate Arabized states in Egypt, Persia and India)
Ancient - Arabs
Classical - ArabsKingdom of Sabaea
Medieval - Umayyad Caliphate (Saladin... I suppose)
Renaissance - Abbasid Caliphate
Industrial - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Modern - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Sabaea was a proto-Arabic state that at one point ruled much of the southern Arabian peninsula in addition to holdings in Nubia.

That's where I encountered them. They don't have the actual history section for them yet....

Rome:

Ancient: Roman Republic
Classical: Roman Empire
Medieval: Byzantium
Renaissance: Papal States
Industrial: Kingdom of Italy
Modern: Republic of Italy

Down with these Papal States ! What if the Pope isn't even in Italy, or if the italian cities are jewish ??? Call them Italian States, or something else.

Rome:

Ancient: Roman Republic
Classical: Roman Empire
Medieval: Byzantium
Renaissance: Papal States
Industrial: Kingdom of Italy
Modern: Republic of Italy

In medieval times the restauration of the Empire was more impossible than an Italian unification. And so, once the Roman empire has fallen and the Italian cities declare their indipendece could be like an unification, maybe like the Holy roman empire.

So I suggest:

Ancient: Rome
Classical: Roman Empire
Medieval: Italian Federation
Renaissance: Kingdom of Italy
Industrial: Italy
Modern: Italy

I don't think we can use terms like Kingdom or Republic. Sticking with Empire for each name would be more neutral. Besides, Rhye's is not about deterministic history, so this should be more about avoiding out-of-place names (like Rome or Aztec in the 1900s) than coming up with a different name for each era just because that's what happened in real life.

I think it should be something like this: Rome falls then respawns as Italy with italian names for cities

Vikings fall then respawn as Scandinavia and the capital moves to Copenhagen\Oslo\Stockholm

Aztec falls then respawn as Mexico and spanish names.

and if Carthage\Babylonia will fall they will respawn as Maghreb and Iraq with arabian names

Yes, I am one of the people who like to change names without respawning.
Khmer
Ancient-
Classical-
Medival- Khmer Empire
Industrial- Cambodian Protectorate
Modern- Kingdom of Cambodia

I noticed that the flag of modern Cambodia is Angkor Wat as well. I chose Cambodia, because Khmer was a primarily Cambodian civlization.

Bablyon

Ancient-Kingdom of Bablyon
Classical-Kingdom of Bablyon
Medival-Baghdad Sultantate
Industrial-Mandate of Mesopotamia
Modern-Perublic of Iraq

I, looked up iraq, and it was the 'Britsh Madate of Mesopotamia'. I kniow people don't like you including other civ names in case they are gone, but there really is no other option.
