There is no earth map with preset civilizations. I think that previous versions of AND used to have several preset earth map scenarios (Eurasia, Giant Earth Map, etc.)

Is there a way to get one? Realism is more fun. :)

No one has an answer to my question?

It seems like Afforess decided to remove all the maps which had preset starting locations. The problem is that I exclusively play those maps!

I tried to add some maps from previous versions, I even edited the map files to change the ModPath to Mods\Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn but I always get an error at the start of the game: You are defeated.

Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone of you updates one of the old maps (Especially: Giant Earth Map) to work on the new standalone AND?

PM StrategyOnly. Pick on him because he said he know how to do it and seem to like it.

Otherwise, you never will see it happen. Afforess' opinions on preset civs maps is this: too formulaic.

I want it to work for A New Dawn 1.75 (the latest standalone version).

I tried it and it refused to work... It tells me that I'm defeated before even starting the game.

you can fix the maps from previous version simply making a custom game with the latest AND. Here is what to do

1. make custom game with correct number of players, 18 for example
2. make world builder save to that game
3. open the save in text editor like notepad
4. copy everything in that file till begin the map, other words copy all the player info but not map infos
5. open the world map from previous version in text editor
6. paste those copied files over the same part

Your map should work now but the civs could be wrong starting places. Move the settlers in the world builder and save changes if that is the case.. Sorry my bad english i hope you understood what i meant:)

@strategyonly, it doesn't work: same problem--> "You have been defeated" before I can start the game

@rtt4a, it looks like it isn't that easy; at first what you explained is what I also wanted to try but after I've tried, I've discovered that it doesn't work; what you explain makes the map either impossible to load or impossible to play because of the "You have been defeated" bug. Moreover, looking at the map with a text editor, even in the map section of the wbsave there are units placed here and there, so copying only the player info and not the map part can't work. :(

Ok guys, it looks like using rtt4a method is maybe working. I'm trying to fix some things (like some spots on the map being visible although far away from you starting location) but it could work. Hopefully tomorrow or maybe the day after I'll finish the map with 31 preset civs, if anyone isn't doing it faster. :)

It is working, i know because i have done that hundreds of times:)
Those visible places are where settlers/warriors use to be, easy to fix in world builder. Player infos are the key, map infos only points the places where settlers are but player infos determines civilizations. After you get the right civs and no defeat bug its only worldbuilder work and saving those changes, right?

And by the way, I have make at least one pretty good world map with 28 preset civs for and 1.75. Its 100x50 standard map but it feels almost like huge:) 100x50 map is the biggest that my ancient 3ghz single core can handle:) huge maps game slows badly after 500 turns but my own map i can play all the way to trans human era:) if someone want and can tell me how, i can upload that map

I guess you're right; I don't know why my first attempt using your method didn't work, probably I've messed up something. Anyway now it looks that it's partially working. A few tweaks and I'll upload a GEM map with 31 preset civs for AND 1.75.

Yeah, i put the wrong one up, i just replaced the old with the old, DUH. sorry:blush:

I have it working now.

okay the map link i think *should* work, however, for anyone who wants to create their own maps (at least in part in txt editor):
Older versions of GEM maps have a line which reads "CivicOption=CIVICOPTION_FUTURE, Civic=CIVIC_NOTHING" for each player. THIS MUST BE DELETED FOR AND 1.75 That set of civic options isn't available and i think prevents each player with that from loading. Also, i don't think the starting x=??,y=?? each player means anything either. Location is strictly based on where the units are placed in the file if RandomStartLocation=False. Since GEMs tend to be big, to find where player p actually is, search for "unitowner=<p>" where p is the player #(between 0 and 49).

Sorry for the "noob" question: I can't launch maps of size Giant and biger, the computer gives a runtime error, or memory allocation error. Might I haven´t got enought memory or CPU power?

I've got Windows XP SP3 with a Procesador x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 11 GenuineIntel ~2336 MHz (i think it's a dual core) and i've got 2GB de RAM.

I would very much like to have an updated version of Earth 28 :(

Thanks. I'll try it out. :)
