Easy Solution to the Movie Problem

Ok I spent hours trying to get these movies to work. Turns out that Fraxis has some pretty lazy programmers. I finally found that settings document and simply set turned the movies off. I mean, who needs those crappy movies anyway, they won't work for me. Every time I build a wonder my computer freezes up. I tryed changing the option on my video card, and I tryed changing the virtual memory. Nothing makes the game work better then turning off the movies. Here is how you do this.

C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4

This is the settings document. Go down to the part that says, "Set to 1 for no in-game movies" and change the 0 to 1.

If the lazy stoners at Fraxis can get it right, they would have put this option IN THE GAME!

It does seem silly that some options are in that ini file. I can imagine that after a certain number of games you grow tired of watching those wonder movies and rather concentrate on the game in itself.

However, since the wonders are an essential part of the game, at least whenever someone experiences them the first time, shouldn't they at least work?

Curiously the wonder movies seem to have worked properly for many people prior to 1.52. Something in the last patch seems to have made them much worse, and while they aren't much of a loss it creates a bad impression. I agree there really ought to be an option to deactivate the movies in game, since I must have answered this question on the forums at least a dozen times.

My movies never worked right, and they probably never will. Those movies really suck anyway. Too bad the graphics programmer missed class so much in college hitting the bong. You are damn right they left a bad impression with me, and I probably won't buy any more of thier games from now on.

It's a shame they don't work for you. They worked for me from the beginning, although choppy with sound cutting in and out. I don't know if it's the new SATA hard drive I just bought (Went from 80GB PATA to 160GB SATA) or the patch 1.52, but that choppy/cutting out sound is fixed now. In fact, all my bugs are fixed now come to think of it...

I hope things work out right for you in the long run. And you're right, ALL options should be in the game as well as in the ini.

Of course, I am not trying to imply that they should not work.
