Hey guys, I've been lurking for a few years now, rarely posting. Now I have this project and was hoping you could help me on it.

It's a project for economics and I have to study a concept related to it, then produce a 5 to 8 page paper on it. In the past people have done things like how to set up a restaurant or how to start a small business. Problem is, the idea for the project is due tomorrow and I am still clueless about any possibly fascinating angles of economics. Especially 5 to 8 pages fascinating. I was hoping you great minds of OT could bail me out, thanks.

Setting up a restaurant and starting a small business? Are you sure we're really talking economics (a mostly theoretical field)? Since it seems like this is business (usually a practical, hands-on type thing).

Well the class is "Economics" but I suppose the course matter is more business related. I guess I would like some economic theory to research then apply to real life. Ideas?

Why cartels (OPEC and such) fail to control comodoty prices or output.
The new deal of FDR
The stock market bubble of the lte 1990s

In that case, these should be easy to combine theory with business practicality:

the sunk cost fallacy
antitrust legislation
globalization
market-based environmental policies
corporate taxation
efficiency of financial markets
natural monopoly (utilities and such)
the effects (good and bad) of the minimum wage

I'd have to agree with Huang that game theory can be pretty damn interesting.
