Editing Q

A thought just occured to me: What would happen if a mod and poster were editing the same post at the same time and they posted something in place of the same thing and they hit "save changes" at the exact same time, what would happen?
And yes I know that this relies on several 1 in a million chances to happen, but it could happen

Well, two moderators have had this happen before (Chieftess and myself). What happens is that whichever edit the server decides is most *recent* is the one that displays. The posting mechanism is such that even if two edits were received at exactly the same instant, they would be processed in sequence. (Although how it decides which is first, I don't know.)

Ah, ok. Now I want to know how it decides who is first! Seniorty perhaps? Post count perhaps? If thats how it happens, then it would have been ackward if curt were still here.

Timestamp! It doesn't 'decide' at all, it just processes instructions in the order it gets them.

He was assumeing they hit it at the same time. Of course, due to connection speed, it would never be exactly the same.

Unless they have exactly the same connection speed.

The answer to the question, although Thunderfall would never dare to tell you this himself, is that planet Earth would implode and civilization as we know it would come to an end. That or the server would incorporate both edits, I dunno.

They cant have exactly the same connection speed. If they did, i would be the distant from the server (or, more accurately, the number of connectors).

Well, assuminng the edits get to the srver at the same time would be the point IMHO, not if they edit it at the same time...
