eldar08: Gridlocked!

Well, I can make enough mistakes for 2 or 3 lurkers! Will that do?

You know what, eldar, I'm feeling foolish enough today to sign up. Can I join the party? [party] Right now it sounds like a rather Smurzian affair.

I'll make a late New Year's resolution to pare down my turnlogs and discussion posts. The seven days to play should be nice too.

Cool :) Thing of this game as an antidote to SGOTM13 ....

We're quorate, but it's late and there are two penalty shoot-outs in the UEFA Cup to keep an eye on (as well as a stupidly active for this time of night 14-month-old daughter).

I'll throw out 20 turns tomorrow, but will probably move the settler to the other side of the river if it turns out to be coast to the SW.

lurker's comment: Now THAT's what's been keeping you away! Congrats! [party]

It's 3000BC and here is today's news:
We have friends! Three of them precise. And every single one of them has an annoying AA UU.

We have two cities! They're even both on a river, despite the crazy restrictions. Later on we'll be swallowing our pride and founding cities ON a cow and a wheat... but for now, not bad! We can get cities on both coasts :D

Spoiler Turnlog :

0 4000BC Scout to hills, decide to move settler 1NE to ensure a coastal city. Worker to Cow.
1 3950BC Found Mayflower 871 ;) Start scout. Worker roads. Research Alpha @ max.
3 3850BC Worker irrigates.
5 3750BC Meet Persia. Up BW, down Pots. No trade.
6 3700BC Scout->Settler. Worker W to BG.
7 3650BC Worker mines.
10 3500BC Contact with... Carthage! The RNG really has stuffed us with our neighbours. How about someone who doesn't have Masonry?! He is up Alpha, down Pots, no trade.
11 3450BC Culture expansion... the first of probably only two (maybe three...) that we enjoy! Worker roads.
13 3350BC Settler->Granary. Worker SE to forest for chopping. Hannibal now has BW. He won't trade it but Pots gets me BW+10g from the X-Man :D
14 3300BC X-Man has WC. Setter SE. Worker chops.
15 3250BC Settler SE.
16 3200BC Found The Emperor Club, start Warrior. If anyone spots the theme of my city names, feel free to say so ;) Meet Iroquois. Finally someone who doesn't have Masonry... and does have Alpha. So has nothing worthwhile to trade with Hannibal. Masonry nets me Alpha+10g. Back to X-Man, Alpha for WC. To Hannibal, WC for 10g. Research Writing @ Max.
17 3150BC Worker SE.
18 3100BC Worker SE to forest for chopping.
19 3050BC Worker chops.
20 3000BC End of turnset. Nothing happened this turn.

And here's the world at 3000BC. I've mapped out the nearby grid city sites, with Big Red X's in places on the grid we can't ever settle.

Spoiler World view :

Persia is north; Carthage and Iroquois are both south.

lurker's comment: Will Chicken Ranch or House of the Rising Sun be the name of future cities? (I think I know your theme)

I need a little education on the naming scheme. :p

Anyhoo, good trading, eldar. We're going for the Republic sling, I presume.

Unless we see something more juicy in the fog, I like the red dot 3NE or the yellow dot 3SW as our next settler spot. That way we can get an early curragh for more scouting and contacts. Red dot has Gems under control and can work the banana for 2 food, but is a bit jungly to be a power spot any time soon. Yellow is probably a little better to settle first.

I would really like to settle the hill 2SW-1W between the BG's, but the grid must be obeyed. ;)

lurker's comment:Out of curiosity, are cultural conversions turned off? Otherwise, that no culture thing is gonna be MURDER. Not to mention no courthouses (Are those allowed even though they produce culture?). This will be very hard.

The RNG really has stuffed us with our neighbours.

lurker's comment: The Map generator determines civs and where they are, not the RNG. ;)

Courthouses Produce Culture?

Oh, and the "Correct" way to do the lurker's comment: is with the tags [delurk][/delurk].

Cultural conversions are ON. However so are Swordsman/Horseman/Knight conversions ;) And CH's don't produce culture, and we may actually need a few as we won't be allowed an FP.

The Map generator and the RNG are bastard half-siblings, I'm sure of it!

lurker's comment: Agreed. Their mother was a hamster, and their father smelt of elderberries.

Well-spoken. And yes, the only "MURDER" that will be happening in this game will be the pansy cultured enemy Civs getting the beat-down by our boys in blue. Fear breeds allegiance, baby. At least in Civ. ;)

lurker's comment: Naming scheme is related to hookers I believe, as "Emperor Club" is the name of the organization that the ex New York governor was involved with. I dimly recall that there was a book called "Mayflower Madame". Now if I am wrong, I might just be a little embarrassed, but that's my theory. House of the Rising Sun is an infamous New Orleans brothel and the Chicken Ranch is a brothel near Las Vegas. If my theory is right, Eldar has nearly as dirty a mind as I do

I don't have a dirty mind... just an over-active imagination that may on occasion tend toward lewd. Now, guess which hotel I stayed in when I visited DC last summer?

lurker's comment: The same one said ex governor met his "friend" in?

alright I got this... will play tomorrow or today... will probably go for RED dot... if you dont agree let it all out... I will play in a while

Yellow is probably better than red as it gives access to a few more 2fpt tiles, we also want to get a curragh up and running.

I vote for yellow first too.

do I play 10 or 20 turns... I forgot to ask... it doesnt say...
