Elder Scrolls V: Oblivion Part 2?

There'll be a mod to fix it if they do occur too often.

As well as one to make them spawn constantly probably.

You make it sound like they're going to be Skyrim's version of the cliffracers

I agree though, that the dragons ought to be avoidable in some way. I don't want to be forced into a confrontation simply because I'm off RP'ing a hunter and not doing an main quests.

No doubt about it

EDIT: There's supposed to be another gameplay vid somewhere... Does anyone know where to get it?

Here's a ~14min one. It's a portion of the 30min one they are showing in private. It also has a good bit of stuff we have seen already, but definitely new info is there.

Link to video.

1) Now I know that the Armor skills are both there (Heavy + Light)
2) You learn Dragon Words, and dragon souls unlock those words, or make them usable as shouts
3) A "clairvoyance" spell was added to show the way to destinations, lol. And people thought the HUD compass was bad! I'm surprised they didn't nix the HUD compass markers because of the new in-game spell that makes sense as a good alternative.
4) The in-game dialogue looks great.

I couldn't hear the in-game dialogue, they're talking on top of it.

Is it just me or did the horse riding looked just as awkward as in oblivion? Didn't Todd say they wouldn't implement them unless they do it properly?

It is still a few months until it gets released in November. But yeah, a lot of people are going to be pissed if it is as bad as Skyrim. BUT, more people would be pissed if they were left out regardless, IMO.

I was hoping for something like Red Dead Redemption. Those were great compared to Oblivion. It might be the kind of horse he happened to be riding too. It looked big and unwieldy as a breed, eh? I could be blowin' smoke, but there might be more graceful horses available for purchase in the game.

As bad as Oblivion you mean... ;) Yeah, agreed, probably would be more pissed people if they were left out. "No horses?! They dumbed down the game!" etc.

EDIT: Not a firm believer in "they still have time, it'll get better" myself... Didn't see such miracles much, if at all. Usually it stays the same and sometimes demo looks better than the actual end result. Oblivion E3 2005 demo  ...

I can't stand listening to those idiotic hosts on G4TV, please stop pretending you're journalists, you aren't.

The girl in the 2nd portion really bothered me. The channel panders to geeks that like to see pretty women "gamers."

"Really accessible" are you BLEEPING kidding me bethsoft? How HARD was Oblivion or Morrowind to get into? NOT AT ALL. If anyone had "problems" getting into it they probably won't buy or like Skyrim either or even RPGs in general. Seriously, if I could figure out Morrowind within a reasonable time without have played anything like it before when I was 14 I think the average plebeian could too.

Glad to see there are people who thinks so too.

I wouldn't get too disturbed by this though. We already saw that it's not in any way dumbed down compared to oblivion. If anything, it has more content. "Really accessible" in this case doesn't mean much except for maybe more awkward inventory screen, which is the case as you might saw in the vid. "Full rotating 3d models... Gods that's useful and so practical"

I just saw that. I mostly liked what I saw, but those G4 journalists needed to calm down just a little.

Some fortified town in Skyrim

Edoras, capital of Rohan

Now, both of these areas are inspired by the Norse, I wonder if there is a Norse town or artwork that looked sort of like that?

Is that a female with decent long hair? At last... Finally gonna be able to make characters with decent hair. I always hated those hair mods, they're awful. So out of place, it hurts my eyes. Also I sure hope I'll finally be able to make a long haired, bearded dude... like a proper viking.

What weapon is that woman carrying on her right side anyway? All I see is a handle looking thing, maybe a mace or a staff.

Skyrim is effectively the Norse lands, as it is the home of the Nords (remember Bruma?)!

Information we have got so far is very one-sided. Civ5 and Dragon Age 2 were told to be great games too by their devs.

I fear the thread title is awfully correct. this looks like they're just milking it and catering to the casual crowd. they definitely haven't put into it the same effort they did with previous TES titles. instead of focusing on what would have been real additions to the gameplay, they treat us to flashy dragonshouts and finishing moves.

so yeah it looks like another possibly great game that will instead suffer from severe consolitis.

But in case of DA2, we clearly saw it was BS. Come on, it was clear from the first videos that DA2 was a dumbed down crap, no matter what devs said.

In case of Skyrim we clearly saw that it's not less complex, less content etc. game than Oblivion. It might have not gone too far from it, but it certainly isn't dumbed down compared to it.

A problem Bethesda has is that people remember TES3: Morrowind. People are still coming across that game. It set such a high bench mark, despite its age and its many flaws, that they haven't been able to match it with their new games.

They seem to be trying to make a better game than TES4: Oblivion, one that warrants a second or third play through. Kudos to them for that, and they'll likely succeed. They are trying to make their factions more interesting, and have the player actions affect quests and the world. Things aren't likely to happen the same way twice. The questions remain that with all the "ooh shiny" if there's enough depth behind it all for it to stand up, and if they haven't had to strip so much from the world / factions to get it finished. Instinct tells me probably not, and probably so.

But its looking like it won't be as good as Morrowind was.

Maybe, but the initial state of Civ5 was a shock very few expected although there were gameplay vids and quite a lot of information around before the launch. It's not difficult for the devs to give an overly-positive picture of the product before the launch. Just make a lot of noise about cool-sounding features (which in reality may not be that cool) and be very silent about the negatives.

In case of Skyrim we clearly saw that it's not less complex, less content etc. game than Oblivion. It might have not gone too far from it, but it certainly isn't dumbed down compared to it.

You may have a point here as when you start to think what exactly can be dumbed down compared to Oblivion, it isn't easy to find those things. Recycling dungeons? Were recycled already. Simplified and recycled dialogue? Was simple and recycled already. Even simpler and shorter main story? I don't think so. Smaller number of side quests? This may be the thing as there were quite a lot of side quests in Oblivion (the quality wasn't great IMO). The number of side quests in Skyrim isn't revealed yet I think? They have hyped about the "radiant story"-system, but what if it's in reality some kind of glorified way to recycle side quests?

But you may be right, it's quite likely that those who liked Oblivion will like this product too. On the other, for those who didn't like Oblivion, there aren't yet much reason to expect this would be better.
