Elder Scrolls V: Oblivion Part 2?

More populated areas sounds good. Nord clothing has the torso and legs overlap significantly so making them one piece helps counter fugliness. Plus we get more armor to choose from and more people can be rendered. Did I mention more densely populated areas? (Yes, I like it that much)

It is definitely not a dumbdown. Especially when they say that they have more armors than ever before to choose from, and it allows for better rendering that allows them to have more NPC on the screen ("it renders a lot faster too, so we can put more people on screen, so that was an easy tradeoff for us").
If they... for example said something like "We have less armors to choose from and you can't mix and match them, but they're really really pretty. We decided it was better this way"... Now that would count as dumbing down in my book.

I highly doubt it allows for more than one or two extra guys to be allowed on screen, previous TES games get choppy pretty damn quickly with just a couple of dozen or so guys on screen.

From what I read, they're only putting the cuirass and greaves together to better compliment the atmosphere of the setting. Nord cuirass' cover the legs I guess?

If that's the case, it helps with immersion...though I would prefer an option to let me use a full body Nord-type cuirass (like, say, the Arena Raiment in Oblivion) or mix and match with other cuirass and greave types.

Still, it's a minor thing. I don't see it as a dumbdown, just design decision.

Yeah, I know, I was just blowing it out of proportion. :p

Bethesda has announced a collector’s edition for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is currently being shown at QuakeCon which sees the game’s director Todd Howard confirm a collector’s edition for the title. It’ll launch alongside the retail release on November 11th, 2011.

Bethesda said the collector’s edition will include a 200 page art book and an intriguing dragon statue. Additionally, a making-of DVD will also be included.

Official details are as follows:
Alduin Statue: Created in conjunction with the IP Factory, this collector’s only statue stands 12” tall and is made of high quality PVC. Modeled from actual in-game 3D digital files, it showcases Alduin, the World Eater. He stands perched atop one the game’s many dragon walls that teach the player the lethal language of dragons.
‘The Art of Skyrim’ Official Art Book: Featuring over 200 pages of striking, full-color illustrations, sketches and models, this stunning 9 3/8” x 12 1/8” coffee table book showcases the characters, creatures, environments, and weaponry of Skyrim. With a foreword by game director Todd Howard and commentary from Bethesda Game Studios artists, readers will be guided through the game’s iconic visual style.
‘The Making of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ DVD: This documentary DVD contains exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage, including interviews with the Bethesda Game Studios team as they take you from concept to creation and provide insights into the story, gameplay, setting, legacy of the Elder Scrolls franchise, and much more.

The Collector’s Edition will be available via pre-order for $149.99 (US), €149.99 (Europe), £129.99 (UK), and $199.99 (Australia).

Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks said:

“We always say that we make the games we want to play. We can also say we create the collector’s editions we’d want to own. We all want one of these!”

And could a mod please change the title to Skyrim?

Insane. ME3's collector's edition is almost half that price.

To be fair, ME3's collector's edition doesn't have a statue.

Although you could buy a model Normandy for $35, and still have the entire package be quite a bit cheaper.

EDIT: Video removed :(

Hopefully this link will last a while before getting taken down like the others. 40 minutes of Skyrim from Quake Con, although the audience is very annoying.

I can already see that I'm going to look for an interface mod once again just to make better use of the space, although its really cool how you can view items in the new inventory menu and zoom in and rotate them. Same with the books when you read them :D

There's lots of new detail in the world like fish jumping in the waterfall (that you can fish!) and the combat looks a lot better than in Oblivion (not that that's hard to do).

The Dark Brotherhood is back, awesome.

You can favourite spells that you like the most, I guess this makes them easier to access.

The skill tree, as you've seen before, is kind of looking up to the heavens and rotates aronud pretty fast (my concern was it would be slow, like every other side scrolling console menu I've seen, but I am also sure a mod can improve if not replace it all together), the constellation symbol for each skill is the perk tree for that skill that you zoom into. It looks really cool but isn't easy to quick reference.

The map is a gorgeous 3D rendering of the world and looks pretty awesome :D

Dialogue menu is similar to the inventory and magic menus, will probably need a mod fix.

The people of the world do a lot more things now, the game has caught up to the Gothic games in that regard. You can do those jobs for money too.

Horses are back the same as in Oblivion.

Snow is dynamic and placed by the game, not the developers.

Sneak attacks look the same as oblivion.

Duel wielding with magic is cool though I am not a fan of duel wielding weapons because its silly and impractical but whatever. Finishing moves are cool, and the magic effects look better than in oblivion (again that isn't difficult).

Sprinting has replaced running.

You can learn spells from tomes.

Video messes up at about 27 minutes and the audio is off, going faster than the footage.

A dragon picks up and flings a giant the player is fighting through the air.

Wow, that crowd is a little overexcited at things that we've already seen, and things that aren't even very different from Oblivion, then they don't care about dynamic snow, which is the kind of stuff *I* get worked up about ;). So yeah, the were annoying, didn't think of Elder Scrolls fans as hooligans "KILL IT, JUMP DOWN, TEABAG HIM". Well, I guess you had to be there.

Anyway, good find. At least they went further into that dungeon they keep showing. Also, as you say, the UI seems to move fast enough. Still not a fan of lists of words but we'll see. The strange physics of Bethesda ragdolls still seems to be there a little bit.

EDIT: Seems to have been taken down minutes after I watched it :-/ I'm sure someone else will post it. It was called "Tes V footage, Quakecon, leaked " I like that game companies don't like free ads.

I'm always interested in bonus material, real maps and other paraphernalia, but I'm sure as Oblivion itself not coughing up over £120 for a statue I'm not interested in. If that's their latest strategy to make money, I'll wait for the non-collectors' edition.
