Embassy to mavericks

Ah it seems like it was a substantial chat if he talked about all the teams, etc. Could you please share the chat log so the rest of the team can analyze it too?

As Charley said, they sent open borders:
Spoiler :
attachment.php

I think we should accept it, there can't be any harm in it.

I actually would not be too eager to do so, or perhaps at least we should explain to them that the ocean tile thing blocks trade anyway.

It does?
But anyway, the point is, we're already locked into a 50-turn NAP, Open Borders expires after 20 turns, so they can't possibly do anything to us other than explore our island within those 20 turns without having us spread the word of their deceitfulness, screwing up any possible trades with anyone else.

Ummm I don't think open borders expires... it stays in place until cancelled. I don't see any danger in granting it right now though. We can always cancel down the road if relations with them go bad.

I think refusing is actually a bad idea. This will set off alarm bells with them and they might decide not to trade MC etc. Best to just be friendly and talk about how we look forward to cooperation etc. :)

Plus we might even end up allied with these guys, its still way to early to really know!

Yeah I'm ok with it, but we probably will cancel it down the line. For what it's worth it should have no in-game effect though and we ought to explain that again to India if they've missed it - we can't get trade routes or sail ships to their lands, or they to us.

I meant expire as in can be canceled by either side at any given side. I just don't see any harm in accepting it, as this grand alliance proposal would not take place until long after we can terminate open borders. I will draft a message soon, which will either be a reply or just a message.
It really would be helpful if Provo could post the chatlog, as this may have been discussed in the chat.

I'm not sure exactly where we stand with these guys right now communication wise. Are they expecting a reply from us based on their chat with Provo? Without the logs there is no way for us to tell...

Perhaps another official letter saying something along the lines of:

Dear Team Mavericks,

I just wanted to confirm you got our last message sent on the 19th. The last official correspondence we received from your team was back on the 14th. There are rumors of some unofficial communications between your team and a member of ours. We understand the eagerness and enthusiasm that individuals will have to discuss stuff. Unfortunately we don't have a log of these communications so we can't really discuss anything issued raised in that chat as a team.

We think good communications are the keystone of friendship and beneficial cooperation. As neighbors we are really looking forward to a strong relationship between our two teams. We would like to get a good robust dialouge going. But we don't want our conversation to inadvertantly get derailed by miscommunications or incomplete information. So in the future we would find it helpful if all communication could be directed to our team email account. Looking forward to hearing from you guys. :)

Sincerely,

Bowsling
Ambassador and official point of contact
Team Quatronia

I agree entirely with the goal of this message.

But let's be back up and not be too harsh on implications about this chat. For Provolution of course, but also, we don't want to sound like we are criticizing their team member; I'd change some wording like "miscommunication"

It is very necessary though that we can continue our relationship with Mavericks right now, especially in a timely manner. AMAZONs at least should not have contact with them yet, but if we cannot get a solid agreement with AMAZONs, we could certainly need Mavericks onboard against them and Sirius. Even if we do get the ETTT working, it's important that Mavericks are still led in the right direction right now, and having official communication at least makes that possible.

New letter from the Mavs:

Greetings Q,

Based on your description, it sounds like Alphabet will be discovered on T65. Is this accurate?

We would like to set up a trade on that turn. Metal Casting for Writing + Alphabet?

We would ask that you do not share the secrets of Metal Casting with any other civilizations. We want to prevent the production bonus of forges and the early naval advantage of triremes from falling into the wrong hands. We would not share the secrets of Alphabet with anyone else either.

We would also like to set up a resource trade for as early as possible. We propose Wheat and Clams for rare and valuable Gems. Combined with the forges you can build with Metal Casting and the Silver you already have, this is a significant impact on the happiness of your citizens. Please let us know if you feel this is fair.

Best,

Team Mavericks

Let's not burn any bridges, but I think we know our "real" answer is calling them worthless heathens who shall be someday be enlightened and freed from Ghandi's oppressive rule...

In the meantime, maybe we should be slow to answer, and suggest that we already have other trades working out, due to unforseen circumstances, and we'll stay in touch. Maybe encourage the NAP and land-agreement anyway, make em think we are ok on their land and expansion; it could take a while for them to find out the extent of teams trading with each other still.

Turn 65 is a good 12 turns away which equates to nigh on a month's worth of real time. Even if we agreed to the proposal I'm sure that Mavs will figure out they've been left behind before we get to a trade. We need to reply politely yet be non committal about the trade.

This. We need to skillfully stall them and always stay friendly. If they wind up on the outside of the ETTT we want their animosity directed at one of the other teams (letting the Amazons appear as the "ETTT leader" is actually a smart move for us as it puts the target on them).

Who know's what kind of twists and turns this game will have... we don't want to alienate the Mavs completely as we might need them in the future!

Did we not send a reply to the last email? We have received another email from the Mavs.

Greetings Team Quatronia,

Not hearing from the friendly nation of Quatronia saddens the Maverick people! Give us a sign of life so that are people may know that your nation still lives strong!

We noticed that the technology situation is now much different than when we last communicated. We would like to propose a trade to be done on this current turn, if you would be interested.

We would like to offer the secrets of Monotheism, which will grant the Buddhist zealots the fervor to construct buildings faster, in exchange for the knowledge of Animal Husbandry, Hunting and Meditation.

We look forward to your response,

Best,

TheMike

Best what BTW?? As I alluded to in the Turn Tracker, I think this is a test. We need to establish what is going on with CDZ ASAP so we can reply to this message ASAP. It might be prudent to send a short message to CDZ and a stalling message to the Mavs...

The beakers in no way match up here: Montheism=120 while Hunting+AH+Meditation=40+100+80=220. That can be an excuse to stall.

We should be careful with these guys: their lower score tells me their probably building up a military.

They can probably smell that we're doing something to them.
But they can't do anything too damaging to us with this military of theirs. After all, it is likely that they can only build warriors and maybe archers. They can't attack our island, and it would only take a small force to defend against one of their attacks.

I think the difference in scores is because they haven't been able to trade any techs yet. If you take out the points gained by teams from tech trades they would be at the top of the scorechart I think.
