Embattled Holy Land Unit Pack

Didn't Bungus say he was jesting?

OK.

Although I did think his suggestion for a Star-of-David free shield was a good one. It's a tad cheezy as is. Did Maccabean shields look like that? Christians are always sticking crosses on their shields and sails, but did Jewish fighters do that? If I had a choice between a unit with or without the heraldry, I'd use the one without for my Maccabean unit just because it looked better (unless, of course, it turned out that this heraldry was typical historically).

Well, I'd like to remind you that this is not actually a Star of David... it is a proto-"Star of David". It's actually the Hebrew letter "D" laid one over the other. That's why it doesn't look as symmetrical and "neat" as a Star of David.

But I still don't know if the heraldry was frequently used... I was lead to believe that it was, but I was not given a direct source to support that claim.

Ah, I didn't notice the Dalet in there, nice touch! Oh and I hope you didn't take this as a slam on your work, Dom. Just a little nitpicky thing that no doubt unit creators get real tired of, real fast. The unit was downloaded a long time ago and is on my "to-do" list (i.e., I have to put, what, 200 units into my personal mod that I haven't done yet?!!! :crazyeye: ).

No offense taken :)

I'm not sure if it was frequently used as heraldry either. I haven't found any evidence to support such a use before the 1300's. Although it's said to have its origins in Kabbalah (no, not the Kabbalah practiced by Madonna).
However, I can say that in ancient hebrew the ^ represented a D or dalet and was commonly used in documents, etc...

To all:
Dom tried to use a Menorah on the shield but it just wouldn't show up right.

Yes he did say he was kidding and I got all riled up when I shouldn't have....
Case closed.
