Embattled Holy Land Unit Pack

Which unit do you think on ???

Not the Persian Cataphract I hope.

The masses of units today has one spinning and not even find them on your own HD.

So who made that Immortal on horseback ???

I believe its called Arabian Cavalry by LabMonkey

Note: The thread is almost two years old. Whoever clicks on the link do not post without a very good reason

About the Immortal, aside from the sword, the Persian Immortals would have dressed almost exactly like that.

The Maccabee will be ready.... RIGHT NOW! :D

Brothers of Israel, unite! :ninja:

Here's a screenshot of the Maccabee in game.

And I'm going to do something amazing for the next few days... I'm going to PLAY!!!!! I haven't actually played a full game of Civ for probably about a year... I've never even had a game of Conquests outside of testing units.

The issue of the symbol has been discussed before... I would like to note that this is not actually a Star of David... It is in fact the Hebrew letter "D" (for David) placed one over another. That it is why the points do not line up perfectly. If you notice the lines extend past the intersections. It is basically predecessor to the Star of David.

The original symbol was a menorah, but there were huge problems with that since at Civ-scale, it was just a blob.

Some pretty good animations, your best yet, IMO.

Graphically, I don't understand the choice to make the shield blue and non-civ coloured. It can be confusing to the eye and contradicts the stock game aesthetic.

I'm guessing that someone else will crow about some historical fact of uniform code, but what's that got to do with the epic game? I'd rather just have the units on the screen look like they belong in the same game, and this ancient mideastern slinger would be a nice addition otherwise.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I have been waiting for that Macabee.
Excellent job DP. :hatsoff:

I choose blue because blue and yellow (gold) are important colors in the Jewish faith, and also because it causes less problems with the symbol.

If the color of the shield varies, the symbol might become altogether invisible against a yellow or white-colored shield.

But, if someone would rather have civ-colored shields, I'm sure somebody can do a conversion to make the shield civ-specific as well.

Love that Maccabee! Your units are really nice... :)

This must be my most awaited-for unit. It looks sensational
THANK-YOU!!

Obviously, this is a UU for Israel; what stats are people using for it? I'm trying them out as having the same stats as a swordsman, but available with bronze working and no requirement for iron. That could be unbalanced, though, but as I said, it's a try-out.

Also, I don't know if I posted this before, but here's a civilopedia entry for the Macabee:

^The [Maccabee] is Israel's answer to the $LINK<swordsman=PRTO_Swordsman>. The Israelites can build [Maccabees] from the start of the game. They have the same statistics as swordsmen, but do not require iron.

^The Maccabees were Jewish guerilla fighters, responding to Greek Hellenism in 167 BC.
^
^
^Altars to Zeus and other pagan deities were erected in every village in Judah and Jews were forced to participate in the sacrificial services. When the Greeks found a Jew in the village of Modiin to perform a pagan service in the town square, Mattisyahu ben Yochanan led his five sons and other townspeople in revolt. Echoing the words of Moses, Mattisyahu proclaimed:"Whoever is for God, let him come to me!" The Maccabees, as they were called, led an army of 6000 in a successful guerilla war against the more numerous and better-armed Syrian Greeks. The Maccabees defeated three Syrian generals, Philip, Apollonius and Seron in successive battles and then defeated three more generals who led an army of 50,000 men. Yehudah the Maccabee then liberated Jerusalem and purified the Temple.
^Chanukah, which commemorates the amazing military victory and heroism of the Maccabees, puts its main emphasis on the rededication of the Temple and the miracle of the one day pitcher of oil that fueled the Menorah of the Temple for eight days. The Menorah represents the eternal light of the Torah and the Jews' sacrifice and unwavering commitment to Jewish spiritual values and observance. The message of Chanukah is that when Jews take the first step for their Jewishness, spirtual and Divine help will guarantee Jewish survival.

Looks fantastic. Is there any chance gatting this unit more "neutral" (without that star and with civcoloured shield)? That would be great, becouse that way it would be possible using this unit for different civs.

I may do some kind of variation on this. I've got a slinger unit planned for the future. But that's really light infantry. I could do a sort of heavy infantry unit as well...

But the design of the unit is very distinctly Hebrew and in particular Maccabee. Even the regular Hebrew army probably would've been wearing something that looked more Assyrian.

Now that I look at Dom Pedro II's magnificent animation, I think the Maccabee would be better as an archer replacement :) .
I'm trying Att 3 Def 1 Mov 1 :) .

Make sure to make it Att 3(1) Def 1 Mov 1. Gives that defensive bombard ability that archers have.

I was going to give this unit a bow and arrow as well actually and have three attacks, but it just seemed like a lot to have him lugging around a bow, a quiver, a sling, and a sword.

So I may someday make him with a bow rather than a sling for people to add more variety.

I put the bomard ability in; the stats work well and the unit looks sensational in-game :D .
