Emperor Cookbook - Napoleon!!

Okay lets get voting!!! Its a shame a few more have not played this round.

We will go ahead and vote for 2-3 days. Hopefully finish by time the votes are in. Its not always about voting for the best save but the save that will be most interesting or challenging to play. Anyone that submitted a save is free to vote.

Please rank your top 3 in order.

First place 3 points.
Second place 2 points

PLEASE NOTE!! To keep voting fair you cant vote for your own save. You are expected to vote for 2 saves and give reasons for your voting. Remember this is a learning game. I would encourage everyone to act within the spirit that the cookbook is intended.

Anyway here are the saves:

Kossin

Teelman

Gumbolt

Voting will end once all have voted.

Well Kossin save sorta blows the other saves away. Wow. I think the key to this round was making JC make peace with Mao.

See how the voting goes but with China gone the save gives more land and a huge science base.

Kossin's indeed looks like the obvious pick, and I'd suggest that one for the people who can vote even though I suppose I technically can't since I never put my save file up. *laughs* Anyway, that was good thinking on keeping JC from vassalizing Mao.

I thought about it but wanted to wait for JC to take the second city. Mistake really. On the plus side JC current stack on my game is 7-8 units. Unless he has a second stack lurking but his power rating was 0.5 I think.

That being said draft/whipping rifles would resolve this on kossin save.

Yeah I am not oblivious to the fact that kossin's save is the best by far. Vote Kossin!

Here are my votes...

1st place: Gumbolt - already taking JC's cities.
2nd place: Teelman - stack growing and economy in better shape
Honorable mention:
Lenowill - for playing the round :)

Thanks. :-)

It would help to have Teelamn vote really. I suspect he will go for Kossin save. :o)

Rifles are a huge boost. Most of JC strength is prolly from barracks and defending units per city. One would assume he will have a 20-30 stack on kossin save somewhere.

Ooops Teelman has already voted.

My votes are Kossin 1st. Teelman 2nd.

Making Kossin the winner of this round!!!!!

The next round will be played over the next 4-5 days with voting over Friday- Sunday.
The round will finish Friday time 1800hr GMT.

The next round will be played from 1500ad-1700ad. Lets get playing people.

Here is the winning save to be used for the next round:

Spoiler :

Couldn't get a GS, got an Artist at very low odds

Decided to go for the bang. Rep/NH/Slavery/SP/FR. Draft/slave to hell (with Kremlin).
Made Beijing the Globe city, it's been drafting non-stop.
DraftCity0000.jpg

Shangai gets the IW, it's the best prod city. I put the HE in Paris to crank out boats to go after the other continent after JC and WvO cap.

And the current galleons...

Backstabbed JC on the first turn of war, taking out his field army.
Civ4ScreenShot0000-3.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0013-1.jpg

Took several more of his cities but he's not willing to cap yet. Not enough bordering land tiles I suppose.

Lagging a bit techwise (WvO has infantry) but we have Artillery so all is good.
Techs0000-1.jpg

Here is the main stack. There are some airships in nearby city to weaken defenders before sending in canons.

Here is the second stack I'm building, for use against WvO whenever it's big enough.

Thinking back, I should have razed Xian and the other city culturally pressed by WvO.

I wonder if this game will be long for the world.

I think the next round should be played to the finish. Start a new challenge.

I have nearly completed my round but I suspect others will be ready to conquer the world. Any thoughts?

Well if the majority approves, we can all finish the game from the last save, it's in a good enough position to win most VCs I think.

As for myself, I don't mind. It would probably mean we can start the next Cookbook sooner.

I took a shot at the game, since i read new members could play.

My first time ever on emperor though. Don't think I did as well as I could have. Plus I should have taken some more time. Kinda rushed drafting up the army.

Spoiler :

Decided to revolt into NH and slavery to get a army going. The problem is teching really slowed down and a bunch of AI's are ahead. I declared on WvO around 1680 took 2 cities. Razed 1 as the comment on game. Kept middleburg. Stack is about 2 turns from hitting capital. Only problem is that WvO just got infrantry. Also WvO colonized Lincoln.

GT in beijing and HE in shanghai.

stack in middleburg with about 7-9 cannons otw and few rifles otw.
Nappycookbookstack0000.jpg

Tech falling behind. I didn't make any trades. I need to learn to make more .

Victory conditions. Need watch mansa going culture.

I caught up in the power #'s but at cost of falling way behind in tech.

I read up to this save but not playing other rounds might have helped me also. Plus jumping up to emperor prolly made me take more units then needed.

@kossin

Spoiler :
Wow looking at your game you are way ahead of where I am. Plus you took more cities then I did and JC cities at that. Your tech situation is alot better then mine also. I have alot to learn. Alot of my cities are near happy cap running 30%culture.

Why are you pushing for a GS? In your 1500AD post says your trying for a academy in Paris, but we already have a academy in Paris.

I've been playing on immortal and struggling most of the time.

I am thinking that this comparative play could be one of the best ways to learn and skill up. So I'm looking forward to the begining of the next Cookbook. Who's next?

I presume the rules are:

1) No restarts/worldbuiler viewing.
2) No looking at others save before posting your round.

Am I correct? Anything else?

@mjg5591
Spoiler :
Wow. Can't believe I missed the Academy in the city-screen lol.
You're suffering from unhappiness a lot because of Emancipation. In my case it's less bad since I whipped cities a lot smaller. You might have wanted to build a few Theatres/Colosseums to help with the culture slider, for instance in Paris.
I did trade techs for a while, especially to keep the slider high. Your research rate is way better than mine at this point though, I can barely sustain at 50% while you can run 70% total.

@CarlH
Been having a hard time on Imm as well, I've been starting to trash Emp AI but still struggling at the next level, an immortal Cookbook or SG might be helpful I guess. No restarts/reloads are indeed correct so is the peeking.

Im having no trouble on emperor either ... it almost seems too easy. But Im sure Ive got plenty to learn from players such as yourself, so this looks like a good next step.

General consensus used to be for such players play in IC. That allows not to overstress map and settings for example.

Unpopularity and deceas of Immortal cookbook is another case.

The Immortal cookbook was run by someone else. Carl Covey?? I forget!! I think there may be demand for one. Getting the map right is key. I think immortal is all about a slower expansion and trading and teching techs wisely. I would consider playing in one if it was set up!! I did wonder about making the cookbook a buffy save? Any thoughts people?

@CarlH
Yes it would be in the good nature of the game not to view worldbuilder or reload! If information is gained about the map from comparing other saves thats fair enough. Also not viewing spoilers before you post the save. What do you learn if you view other peoples rounds before you play it??

Kossin - I would be happy for each player to finish off their round. Going to another week wont hurt really. I dont think this needs another 2 rounds.

Next leader - Suggestions on who to play next would be good. Philosphical leader like the Americans? Aztecs for fun? Maybe a financial leader but I dont want to make this too easy.
