Emperor Cookbook Shaka

Next game I bet will have no close horses and be boxed in by SB :P
That may not be enough. Unless Soirana does a continent of Sitting Bull if we have more than one neighbour.

Hammy is always a tough neighbour to start by if you have no horse. That being said place the Ai 15-20 tiles away and the rush is a less viable option.

All that being said this cookbook should be somewhat about normal games. ;)

It might be interesting one round to play with the save withe the least votes for a bigger challenge.
Playing the least votes might provide saves which are "unwinnable" for most players, while further highlighting that good players are good, but it's a solid starting point to formulate a better system.

You might try doing that for one round, but persistently selecting the weakest save will compound the difficulty of the game rather than bump it up a notch.

Or try selecting a middle-of-the-pack save. The key there is for advanced players to stick around and share the details of why they were successful with a middle-of-the-pack save while less advanced players continued to struggle with it.

Is this the Emperor's Cookbook or a Kossin Shaka game?

Anyway Congradulations Kossin. I should be able to play this tonight or tomorrow. Since I haven't seen a monarch students game posted.

Well the rules do state people who are comfortable at Emperor or higher level should play as a shadow. I think when it comes to the point where you are constantly being voted as best save its time to shadow. Although I do appreciate the start of this game was made more challenging to slow us down.

@ Nares. It was only an idea. I would only do it for one round really. If there were 8-9 saves I suspect only 4-5 saves would get votes anyway. Only 4 saves got voted for last round. Its always nice to spice up events. It also gives weaker players a chance to see how people would improve their saves. That being said you can get unlucky or have a bad round. I remember a Mongol cookbook where I had a 15 high greek stack attack me.

Take this game. Its 1100ad and we are a turn or so from liberalism already. IT almost had OX uni built for a similar time.

I was only kidding. I know anyone can play. Just a bad attempt at a joke I guess.

I am good at picking up jokes. Although all my bad ones seem to get picked up by groans!! I am sure Kossin will welcome the chance to shadow games that are not instant win scenarios.

I have participated in the "fix my trash game" series.
You select the "worst" save, then the best, rince and repeat till the end.
It was at prince and monarch level, I don't think you can afford it really on emperor. maybe if you start with best then weakest, it's not that bad.
Taking a middle of the pack save is a bit hard (for the selection) , but taking second best is really not a problem. It allows to avoid the "game is already won" problem.

Mini-round as I didn't have more time

Shadow -> 1170AD
Spoiler :

I lost to a Culture Victory on the other continent!
Spoiler :

Just kidding! Just making sure there aren't people peeking too early ;)

I built wealth almost everywhere for 6 turns and researched Compass>Optics as fast as I could for this result:

 On the same turn a GS spawns and you can trigger a GA, switch to Pacifism/Caste and spawn more of them!

The idea of this series is maybe not take the best save but also most interesting. At present most people vote for what is best. They could of for instance voted for my save. :D

Joking aside it would be good to encourage Monarch players to join in this series more.

Shadow 1170AD->1500AD
Spoiler :

No scare this time :)
Spoiler :

Sent the caravels exploring and found the three unknown civs with all the stone and marble shinies at their disposition:
AC
Ramesses
Sury
They are on a fairly large continent but not one of them is that big compared to our landmass.
Civ4ScreenShot0005-3.jpg

Raced to Economics and got the free GM which went to Rome...
Civ4ScreenShot0000-6.jpg

I took a few more KK cities then Cap'd him.
Civ4ScreenShot0001-5.jpg

I went after Charlemagne next, so the logical tech was:
Civ4ScreenShot0002-4.jpg

As 1500AD came by, my army just wiped Aachen's massive garrison. It's ready to fall next turn.
Civ4ScreenShot0003-5.jpg

At some point buddhism (AP religion) spread so I started to spam missionaries and when AC asked me to convert I did for Diplo.

Tech screen... sold techs for gold and gifted some to KK.

Civ4ScreenShot0006-3.jpg

Steel will be useful somewhere down the line, if not to finish Charlemagne then for the other continent, or something! Ramesses could very well go for Culture, although he hasn't started yet. Looks like he might need to go.

Domination or Diplomation looks quite feasible from this point and should be no problem for any Prince+ player.

Attached my save in case anyone wants to see/compare, but it's not up for voting.

Not yet closed this round as we only have Kossin save. lol

Is anyone still playing?

I'm playing. Something came up this week so I haven't been able to play much. This weekend though I'll have time to catch up on all my games. I am halfway through this round. Should have writeup done by tonight.

I'm not.
I have so badly misplayed the first few turns that I felt a pressing urge to reload:rolleyes:.
So no save from me.

I have made a few mistake on the first few turns but will still post a save.

Mistakes are part of the learning experience.
I find it is very hard to take a new save and figure what was going on in the head of my predecessor. I often take a good 15 minutes before moving anything just to see what each city is doing, most units, who needs what and when.

I'm kind of surprised at the sudden smallish participation, given we had so many starting saves in round 1. Is it the size of the empire we have to manage that takes too much time? I mean, seeing 2 AIs with close to 20 cities around 1000AD is not something you'll see normally on Standard size maps...

Its a lot of work to manage a war mid game esp with KK with 9-13 cities still. Even so we are only playing bite size chunks of the game a week.

Perhaps everyone is busy.

I have about 130 years left to play. Challenges still lie ahead.

Here is my save. To 1500AD

Spoiler :

Decided to take Lib right away and take Nationalism.

My tech path for round was Lib(took nationalism), GP, PP partly bulbed, get aest and guilds in trade, banking, economics for the GM, lit, RP, Rif, music, MT this was mistake as we have no horses  Currently on chemistry but not alot of beakers into it.

1130AD Took Ulaanbaatar.

1170AD GS pops bulb part of PP couple turns later.

1200AD Capture Old Sarai, and took peace.

1350AD Win economics race. Send GM to Aachen for trade mission.

1355AD WHip 2 population on the taj and start GA.

1380AD Meet Ram.

1385AD Trade mission 2250gold.

1395AD Trade guilds and paper to KK for ENG, Drama, 70gold

1400AD Beg 1gpt from KK as he was in WHEOOHRN.

1405AD Switch civics to Nationhood and Theo. Drafting rifles coming up. Also whip the OU in Capital.

1500AD Meet Sury. Strated drafting rifles and building some trebs. Mistake made was going for MT instead of heading to steel. Wanted a Cav war with Charlie, didn't realize we had no horses. Really bad mistake here. We could have had Steel shortly and Cannon rifle war. Oh well what can you do.

My plan is to hit Charlie. Have stack outside borders going to enter next turn, but I hit limit for round. I can enter now, but I'll let everyone decide if my save is picked wheater to hit Charlie or maybe a weak KK. KK doesn't have GP yet. Charlie just got RP and is researching communism. He doesn't have rifles. Why I figure hit him and get his shrine.

Maybe I should have went and met people to abuse GLH trade routes. But I figured KK is weak and if I can get Charlie's lands should be pretty easy win from there. Also wanted to hit Charlie before he got rifles. Protective rifles suck, unless they are your protective rifles.

@kossin

Spoiler :
Wow nice move to go get Astro from lib. That's the difference in playing at higher levels. I'm guessing you used the trade routes to fund a nice research rate. Also I can't believe your at AAchen already. I have my stack outside his birders ready cto attack next turn. I also didn't get to capitulate KK. Your save is far superior then mine. Nice going. Now off to get caught up in the SG game.
