Emperor Perikles of Greece

I'll look at your save soon. I got more distracted and played through 36 turns of golden age. Unfortunately, almost all of those turns have been at war with the Mongolians, which are reduced to 3 cities. I am simply going to wipe them off the map, and I do not believe it will take that much longer, but the war weariness is something!

I will then have the continent to myself, but the Incas settled a city in the north. I am not too worried about it right now. I think it will be a while before it is at all productive.

I left a save game with one turn left of golden age. What should my final civics be? Or at least until Cristo Redentor.

I am leaning towards:
Universal Suffrage - 56 Towns, 56 Hammers, and we have the Kremlin
Free Speech - 56 Towns
Emancipation - Not much choice here
Free Trade - or Environmentalism because 22 Windmills?
Free Religion - Because we never developed religion

Tough choice between Republic and Universal Suffrage. We also have lots of specialists.

Also, what is it with the Mongolians building so many ships?

Ha! I lost a 99.8% battle!

I suppose if we are running so many battles, something like this is going to happen. The unit was only a little bit important, a CR3 infantry.

Here we are again, one turn from the end of a golden age. The Incans are going to give us a run for the Space Race!

I also never really did sit down and figure out the optimal path to space race victory.

Gotta love it when an Infantry is fighting a Swordsman!

This is a big part of the fun of playing Chieftain level!

It was also funny watching my CR3 infantry die against Maces at 99.8% chance of winning. It is a more enjoyable experience when there are 4 or 5 more where they came from and the attack does not fail due to one bad roll.

The Mongols also managed to sink one of our frigates. It would have been funnier if they managed to sink a battleship.

I still don’t know why they built so many ships.

I also should have sent a tank to kill that barbarian warrior.

Yeah you need to finish this off now. Game is won if your doing space. 3 late golden ages are quite valuable here.

Thanks for your patience.

For game mechanics I don’t use yet, like diplomacy, it is because I never tried to use them before. There are lots of mechanics to learn.

Where I hit a wall in this game was the part around the Liberalism race, where there is a whole bunch of free stuff. Then the Babylonians grabbed the TM from right under us, and the Incas were running an incredible tech rate. You did show that a galleon chain was able to grab their empire.

The big changes in the replay were:
Taking all the tech from Napoleon. Apparently I left a number of beakers on the table equivalent to a great scientist.
Napoleon built the Great Wall for us, making Barbarians much simpler, but we got two or three great spies.

The first rush was not as botched as in the first game, but still refining to do.

Next game, going along with the Creative theme:
Catherine, Creative and Imperialistic, probably great for early expansion. The UU shows up a little later. The UB never comes into play, because the game is over by then. Maybe it wins a turn sooner.
....unless there is another good leader to try, like Louis for building spam.

Same settings as before, I think. I don’t know if I should try Immortal yet.

It looks like the AI might have let me win this time.

1896 Space Race, because I was too lazy to attack the other continent.

Last time it was 1919 AD for 48568.

Congrats man. Looks like a pretty dominant win. I've had a few of those at Emperor lately but Immortal is much much tougher.

I think you have to fix some of your bad habits before moving up.
Learn to trade resources for gold.
Don't build courthouses everywhere. If costs under 7-8 ignore completely. Don't over whip your key cities.
Same for markets. If happiness allows great.
Don't be afraid to cottage river grassand/flood plains. Farms help with growth but don't give you a cottage economy.
City specialisation is important.
Sparta running 6-7 mines is an amazing production hub.
Same for Orleans and cottages.
Always try to have a few cities that just make your empire. Athens, Sparta, Orleans and Paris. Use other cities as helper cities.
More focus on techs and having a plan. Not sure you ever really stamped your authority on this game. I think you ended up at space. You nearly lost to AP.
Plenty of micro to think about here.
Work on diplomacy.

@Harv

Maybe try and play through the Immortal game I posted in the other thread. We both can get good advice from peeps on here! :)

I actually just hit the start button on mine, but can take a look at yours and mess around with it. I have also been playing very slow. I spent close to a month and a half on this one. I played most of the way through, then started over.

I have a mental barrier at the opponent getting some key mid-game loot.
