Does anyone know if the new combat system will take entrenchment or suppression into account like the old panzer general games?
Its been a while since I've played those games but I found entrenchment a great game mechanic that allowed for interesting gameplay.
If I recall correctly, entrenchment was something that infantry units could get which made them very strong at defending hexes....especially cities. It made infantry useful even after better armor became available, unlike many games where infantry would become an afterthought.
Entrenchment would mirror real life situations where infantry would hunker down in a city and would require heavy bombardment before assault. A heavily entrenched unit would require a good amount of bombardment to soften up.
Suppression is another mechanic that I found fun in panzer general. It mirrored real life situations where multiple units attacking could provide "suppression" fire and pin down opposing units, making them unable to retaliate at full force.
Anyone know if either of these will exist in Civ 5?
