EOC2 - Ruling the Waves

Hmmm... I think I am a diagnosed Civ 3 claustraphobic. :smoke: I've got some kind of mental block where if I see more than four tiles overlap between two cities then I :cringe: and go for another option. One of the many things in my game I obviously need to change :)

With the blue city spot, it all depends whether or red can go where you put it (it might be sea, or another mountain). If it can I'll go with yours, otherwise I'll go with mine and use Bede as a Riot Shield ;)

Apart from that I should found our third city as well on my turn, so which dot should we go for next? The neon green or dark red? I'd probably plump for neon green myself so speak soon or forever hold your peace :)

Problem with that is that the potential for tile wastage in the south is too high, becasue we are unable to see what is to the west (and southwest). Also in the long term the two hills make up for the lost bg as there is a wine at the nw corner of the city. And for the first six it will be better with 4bg & 2mined hills than 6bg.

I'm happy with either though and it is not in my hands. Looking forward to your moves EoC.

Osman Earl's coronation was a bizarre event, with him not turning up to the ceremony. Because, although he was a very simple man compared to his predcessor, he too had a fascination with the waters around his island. So instead of going through the despot rituals, he sat at the oceans edge imagining the riches that it contained. "They will be mine" he declared.
But at this time this was just a dream as the Ottoman's did not have a single port, and so if there is one thing that the reign of Osman Earl achieved, it was the establishment of two gateways to the seas.

2800 BC (3) - Our warrior reaches what looks like one ends of our island.

2750 BC (4) - Settler is built and I order another. I haven't had a chance to scout around the turquoise dot so I send him towards Kabuki's spot where he should settle in three turn time. Toss up between running low on treasury or reducing science and go for the former.

2670 BC (6)- A perch on top of the hill does indeed reveal that there wasn't much land to our NE peninsula than Kubuki saw.

2630 BC (7) - Edrine is founded giving Admiral Earl a place from whih to sit in his sun lounger and view this wonderful deep blue expanse that one day will be his. Until someone tells him he needs to press the space bar that is. It starts on a much needed warrior.

2510 BC (10) - Istanbul produces it's settler which is sent towards the neon green dot which it should reach in four turns. The city then starts a warrior. With only four gold left in our treasury I drop science to 90% where we break even.

2430 BC (12) - Edrine finishes it's worker and starts another.

2350 BC (14) - Istanbul gives us a warrior and starts a worker to help with the forthcoming mining of Edrine. Bursa is also founded in this year giving Earl a choice of a western deck chair or an eastern hammock to listen and watch the rolling waves from. It starts a barracks although that is very changeable.

2310 BC (15) - Istanbul's warrior sees a chink of light in our low food start with a cow in our inner ring area.

Earl found the sound of the ocean so peaceful that, sitting on his hammock abreast, he fell asleep, leant back and overbalanced. His fall to earth was brought to an end by a large rock which had been brought in by the tide.

That's me done. Alphabet is due in three. Istanbul finishes it's work next turn and should sensibly start another to head towards the cow area which you can continue to scout. Edrine can churn out our MP for a while so I would go for a barracks after it's warrior.

And the save

I'll make it 15 turn for this first round just to make matters fairly even.

If there's any freshwater by that cow looks like Fat City down that way.

Looks like a warrior out of Bursa for NE exploration might be appropriate.

heh everytime i get on the forum it seems to be down

well I got it

oh and leave any suggestions cuz it might be awhile before i start to play it

well i finsh my 15 turns i hope i did ok so far we have explore the whole island i was only able to bulid one city and i build it on the purple dot on Kabuki dot map so here is the timeline

2230 BC - Edrin builds warroir and then starts to build a worker

2190 BC - We learn Alphabet so i switch to Cermonial burial

2150 BC - Nothing but exploring the island

2110 BC - Same as above

2070 BC - Same again

2030 BC Edrine builds worker then switches to the thingy that makes a boat. We get a warroir out of one of the huts

1990 BC We learn Warior Code from a hut and have explore the island

1950 BC Istanbul builds Settler then we start on another settler

1910 BC - We learn Ceremonial Burial then we swicth to The Wheel it can be changed if needed

With all that Wine and Tobacco we could open a Wine Bar [pimp], and hold snipe hunts in the marshes, polo games on the grass lands and tiger safaris in the jungle (no elephants in sight though). (What's that you say, we're Turks, not Brits?)

Next Town?

Should be a pretty strong worker factory, I think, and it does have one coastal tile for a later harbor (thematic concern).

Any thoughts, mates?

I've been thinking the same thing for the last three days or so, but I couldn't make up my mind if I wanted individual efficiency (i.e. making that the best possible city) or getting two decent ones there. I'll go with you Bede, stick it there. I'll cook up some dotmaps for the south and east as soon as my computer is happy again.

@K
Where would you put the second city?

Got it.

Dispatches today.

EOC2_1725_Dot_Map.JPG

Ok, I cooked up this. It contains two build versions. There is a tight build, using all the red dots and a looser build that does not use the red dots with a black x in them. The white lines denote wasted tiles under the last scheme.

The other version for the cow city is inferior. Even thinking about it was rather :smoke:

Talking about :smoke: the blue bordered red dot should be one NE... That's what I get for doing dotmaps at 4am.

Will build to red dots.

:thanx: Kabuki.

Swap Istanbul to Barracks due in 4, grow in 4, then warrior, then settler.

Are there no rivers on this rock?! All I see is one little lake N of Istanbul.

First priority is settle the spot S of Istanbul.

We are plumb in the middle of the map with a desert isle to the S of Istanbul and a coastal lane extending off the peninsula to the SE of Istanbul and another to the NW. start warrior from Iznik to check out the coast.

T1 1700BC
Erdrine births a worker starts a granary. Worker hotfoots it to start road from Istanbul south. Curragh sails south along desert isle which now appears to be a peninsula.

T2 1675BC
Meet the neighbors on the island to the south and
Ragnar will make this deal:

WheelForPottery.jpg

and then this one:

BurialForCash.jpg

He gets two techs, we get one and his treasury.

Reset Research to Mysticism at minimum.

His deal for Writing is way too rich.

Nothing to offer and not enough to buy

We get a border expansion and learn how to ride the horses we don't have.

T9 1500
Explore and road

And trade HBR for Writing:

and a chunk of change from Will (picture lost)

With money to burn crank up the research pace to Mysticism in 8

T11 1450
Istanbul equips a settler starts training a warrior. Settler heads south

T13 1400
Barbarian appears from the south and our conscript warrior is easy prey. Dispatch a warrior from Istanbul to cover workers in the jungle.
Found Uskudar start granary.

Uskudar.jpg

Exploring and roading and jungle chopping.
Nothing learned, nothing earned.

T14 1375
Vet warrior kills barbarian
Exploring and roading and jungle chopping.
Nothing learned, nothing earned

T15 1350
Warriors gather to take out barb camp
Exploring and roading and jungle chopping.
Nothing learned, nothing earned.

Having trouble getting the right mix for optimum settler and worker production and population growth.

We have the scientific leadership and and most of the cash.

Have seen no other dinghys on the seas and the curraghs are slowly peeling back the darkness both east and west. A third curragh is due shortly from Iznik and should sail counterclockwise to coastal channel visible to the north.

More pictures follow.
