EOC2 - Ruling the Waves

Butz: No problem, and bad luck. Hope you can remedy them completly soon :)

Bede & SesnOfWthr: No problems with the swap at all :) just things haven't changed much at all since SofW last had it!

So the state of play is:

EarlOfChester <---- Just Played
Butz <--- Skipped, but back for next round *fingers crossed*
SensOfWthr <--- Playing - swapped with Bede this round

Oh what a tangled web we weave ;)

I've only skimmed your thread, but , this is an interesting looking game you guys have here!

@ Bede: Thanks for the PM, I took the liberty of PMing someone who is rather into naval stuff and showed me a neat trick on submarine 'wolfpack' tactics. If he shows up and expresses a strong interest in this game I may step aside and let him raise his hand for the empty slot first. If he's not interested, I am.

Pre turn – gee this seems very familiar ….. like I only played ten turns ago or something. :hmm: At any rate here we go. King Will still not dealing nice, I’ll wait for Lit and use that for trade bait. Not a whole lot doing otherwise. Obviously need more cities though. We’re also going to have to consider who our first target for assimilation will be soon.

Hit enter.

710 bc (1) – Edrine barracks -> settler. Bursa settler -> galley. send settler to “blue bordered dot”. Just for the record, and I know it’s a bit late for this, but it seems we’re building a bit loose for our limited landmass….

Ragnar comes looking for a handout, Polytheism no less! Do you remember that Philosophy thing Ragnar? So do I! Now piss off! (no war)

William is being rather stingy, he won’t trade CoL for Lit straight up. I’ll keep an eye on this, and wait for the third civ price. We start Curr in 18 @ -3gpt.

690 bc (2) – Iznik granary -> library.

670 bc (3) – Istanbul spear -> settler. Still nothing on the trade front. Is there no one else that can research?

650 bc (4) – Edrine settler -> spear.

630 bc (5) – Uskudar barracks -> worker.

610 bc (6) – Bursa galley -> spear. Konya founded, not quite at blue dot. I vetoed in favor of a fishin village. Starts Granary. I rename galley SS Incense, because I am loading with settler/spear pair to send out to incense near Dutch. Speaking of Dutch, they still won’t do any better for us. I pull the trigger on Lit and Philo for CoL and 116 gold. I then turn around and trade CoL for Const and 9 gold.

590 bc (7) – ummm, seems I lost track of a turn here, or more likely, combined two turns.

Our curragh defends and promotes vs barb galley.

570 bc (8) – Istanbul settler -> spear. Edrine spear -> library. Uskudar worker -> worker. Bursa falls into disorder. Dammit!

550 bc (9) – The SS Incense starts its epic journey.

530 bc (10) – Uskudar worker -> spear. Izmit granary -> library. English begin GL.

I’m pretty sure we said 15 turns, but I’m making a save file now just in case.

510 bc (11) – Istanbul spear -> settler. Aydin granary -> settler. Sinop founded, starts library.

490 bc (12) – We get FP message. Bursa spear -> library. Conscript warrior dies to barbs in the north. So much for a promotion.

470 bc (13) – Iznik library -> spear.

450 bc (14) – Edrine library -> worker. Uskudar spear -> spear. I see brown borders with one of our curraghs, Carthage I would imagine.

430 bc (15) – Edrine worker -> sword. Ragnar is building SoZ. We meet Carthage. They have 10 cities, but the only thing of value they have is 135 gold. My mistake, now we have 135 gold and they have writing. :p

We’re almost out of space on our island. The last two settlers we need are in production. There is a barb camp in the north. My intention for the fishing village was as far NE as we can go. We’re up in tech, and will enter Medieval times in 3 turns when we mint our first coins. We should really begin to consider a military action for two reasons. First, we will want to get some horsies so we can build horseman for later upgrade. Second, as I mentioned, we need more space!!

I am putting both saves in a zip, as requested. If we want to switch back to tens, that’s fine, otherwise disregard the earlier save.

Also forgot to make a screenie, and already closed the game.

Got it.

Play and post later today.

Im curious if a slot is still open.

Nice turns SOfW :) One priority for Bede should be to secure that incense city (if we settle it ok) as it's a reasonable distance from us. I'll need to refresh my memory on the save when I get home before making any further comments.

CivGeneral: Well hopefully you can begin to satisfy your curiousity after Bede :) Welcome aboard sailor!

Turkish Delight

EoC 430
It's a nice tidy little island we have here.

Start another settler out of Uskudar to settle spot on hill to NW of Uskudar.

Once that is done we will have filled the isle.

Fiddle with citizen assignments, put the scientist back to work in the fields at Iznik, bump science spending to finish Currency in two (-10gpt), raise lux tax to keep everybody content and gainfully employed. The incense will come in handy but we are a long way from having it on sale in Istanbul.

Check in with the neighbors to see what's what and if anybody has learned republic or monarchy yet.

Ragnar would empty his treasury to learn how to read (100g).

Spain is ignorant and poor.

If possible Theodora is yet more ignorant and poorer. The brave Byzantines don't even have Map Making yet.

Hannibal is the most ignorant and poorest of this sorry lot.

Elizabeth of England would spend 53g to learn literature.

Wee WIllie is closest in science having everything we know except bottom tier techs. He hasn't even learned how to meditate yet.

Overall, the Seafaring Ottomans are a little off-course as our land based troop exceed our navy by 5:1 and we haven't started the Great Lighthouse or the Colussus. Colussus owned by the Dutch in Amsterdam and the Great Light being built by the Dutch (Amsterdam) and English (Canterbury).

Looks like the Scandinavians are the best target for our first war as they are close, lack iron at the moment and have access to ivory and horses.

Istanbul finishes settler starts library.

Byzantines finish the Oracle.

T1 410BC
Curragh continues north up Byzantine coast and spots a new color border.
SS Incense reaches the coast.
Shift worker irrigating the desert to lumberjacking at Izmit.
Curragh explore English coast.

Shift coastal cities to harbors. Instead of building swords in Erdrine we should be building galleys as we can upgrade warriors to swords.

Diplomatic news:

T2 390BC
Warrior whacks barb camp in NE. Defeats barb warrior reveals another.
Dispatch newly upgraded sword from Bursa to help out.
Curraghs continue exploring east and west.
SS Incense sails up coast towards landing site.

Build an embassy with Spain to monitor develoments in the Anglo-Castilian war.

EOC530_004.jpg

We learn Currency and enter the Middle Ages and learn Engineering.

Start research on Montotheism at max (90%) -14gpt in 25 turns with 10% lux tax

People are displeased and Bursa and Iznik riot, hire taxmen to pay for cleanup. The rest of the population celebrates our achievements and builds a veranda on the palace.

Byzantines start the Great Wall in Constantinople.

T3 370BC
Raise lux tax to pacify the restless.
Found Kafa on SW coast start harbor
SS incense unloads on Incense coast, revelaing three incense and a barb camp on the northern tip.
Green border turns out be Carthage.
Western curragh renamed SS West Wind which turns south to evade barb galley.

Decide it's time to strip the English and Scandinavians of their treasuries for Literature.

Spanish come calling seeking our assistance against England. Not a chance.

T4 350BC
SS West Wind flees barb galley.
Eastern curragh turns south.
Swordsman approaches barb camp in NE as settlers treks to NE and S coastal sites.
Found Incense, start harbor. SS Incense starts long voyage home.

West Wind sinks barb galley

T5 330BC
Sword hits barb camp, kills warrior and reveals Circassian horseman.
Open an embassy in Constantinople. Byzantines haven't met the Dutch so no reason to sell Mysticism on to Willie.

EOC530_005.jpg

SS Incense witnesses a Dutch warrior slain by Burgundian barbarian.

T6 310BC
Found Salonika on south coast.
Swordsman kills Circassian horseman reveals another.
Scandanavia lands a warrior next to Iznik

T7 290BC
Sword wipes out Circassian camp.
Ragnar the Ruffian declares war and start the Great Lighthouse.
Ragnar's lone warrior dies attacking Iznik.
The people celebrate their war happiness by building a terrace for the palace

T8 270BC
Sailing and working the land.

T9 250BC
Found Mugla in far NE
There is room for another fishing village on point SE of there.

T10 230BC
SS Incense Sailing homeward
SS West Wind finds another island north of England
SS East Wind sailing south along Byzantium.

Sell Mysticism, Writing and Polytheism to various nations and boost treasury to >500g.

Spain builds the Pyramids, Vikings start ToA. Portugese finish the Great Lighthouse.

T11 210
Sailing and working

T12 190
Sailing and working

T13 170BC
Sailing and working
Start FP in Iznik
Sell Lizzie a RoP for 34g

T14 150BC
Sailing and working

T15 130BC
SS Ragnar's Regret sets sail from Uskudar with two swords aboard looking for targetsd of opportunity.
SS Incense and and a sister galley are deployed in strait.
East Wind and West Wind continue to explore. West Wind is sailing the coasts of an apparently uninhabited island north of England and East Wind is sailing south along Byzantium in hopes of finding a crossing into the fog in the middle of the map, The uninhabited island has horses and iron visible on its west coast.

We remain the scientific leader with Monotheism due in 8 @-20gpt. No research has been expended on either Monarchy or Republic as I figure one or the other can be traded for and we still need to build markets to take full advantage of either. If we can capture the SW Scandanavian town with the elephants, then markets become worthwhile, we haven't really needed them for either cash flow or contentment. Lux is at 10% to prevent riots in Istanbul. There is 420g in the Treasury and as soon as everybody else has some cash we can rebuild quickly by selling AA technology. Given our position I have been emphasizing harbors and libraries. The FP is building in Iznik due in 22. Istanbul, Erdrine and Bursa are producing troops for the war with Ragnar. Workers are ganging in the north and heading south to clear the jungles at Iznik, then the marshes between Iznik and the south coast. There is one settlement spot remaining in the far NE. A warrior from Mugla is headed toward Istanbul for MP duty.

Thanks :), I normaly have a habit of escourting transport ships with naval warships and have a strong navy when on an island.

In my Imperialism Mod that I am working on. By the time around WWI, I usualy have the Destroyers (or units that can see hidden units) create a sonar screen in the path of my transports and stack my transports with Cruisers and a Destroyer.

Edit: BTW, Ive got it

Pardon my bad manners, should have welcomed you in turn log post, but belatedly, welcome to the crew, CivG.

Build us a real navy!!

:wavey:Hello CivGeneral, glad that you could join us, hope you have fun:)

Im afraid that I would have to reqest a skip. I have C3C v 1.22 and I have no way to downgrade to 1.15 (IE previous patch instalation programs). I will pass the game on and wait untill my next turn. By then I would get the program to swap versions. Also, Tuesdays and Thursdays are my usualy busy days since I have College classes in the morning till 3:00 and Karate on 6:00 (Times in EDT) and I have no time to fittle with large downloads :(.

Sorry to let you guys down, but Ill pick up the next save when it comes to me :).

BTW: I have been appointed Commander of the Navy in the Demogame ;).

Congrats on your promotion!

Too bad you're gonna need a skip already, but welcome to the crew anyhow!

@EoC,
I think it's back to you.

Indeed it is Bede. Hope you can get the patch situation sorted CivGen, and glad to hear we've got a man with good sealegs on our side! :D

I've heard people say it elsewhere and I think it bares repeating: who ever at Firaxis decided it wouldn't matter if you couldn't play games of 1.22 on previous versions has a lot to answer for!

Anyway ranting aside, I've "got it" and will play it tomorrow.
