Gladinia
Well, who else
So many people were going to the holy river shrine these days that a large village had to be built to accomodate them. Then there were the much-welcomed pilgrimages from the Congolese, necessitating temporary accomodations, and more people wishing to trade with them: Merchants of both countries, people visiting just once to see the sights and even some desert nomads.
One day at the tale-tellers evening fire, the stories grew wilder than usual. One boasted of seeing three-headed creatures who could walk on water. Another said he talked to some god or other and could ask his favor at any moment. Finally, a third said that he had come from a land far to the north. Nonsense, said everyone, there are no lands to the north.
But there were some who listened to him.
And so the rumor spread.
"Egypt..." they whispered in alleys.
"There is a land in the north..." they said around the fireside.
Mothers began to threaten their children that if they didn't go to bed, she would tell the egyptians on them, and the egyptians would not be happy when they had to come all that long way.
Nobody knew how far away Egypt was, because the original teller of the tale had gone back into the desert.
One day the story spread to the ears of King Coldin. He had always been a man thirsty to know more of the lands, and so, this day, he sent the famous explorers called the Panthians marching northwards, to investigate these rumours...
(Or: Get contact with Egypt, more territory around the river shrine. Orders: Increase army and education.)
EDIT: OK so forget the contact with Egypt.
