Error With Patch 1.74

I was unable to find the error in any other postings.

I tried to update civ 4. It worked great before, but I get an error when i try to patch it with 1.74:

16 bit MS-Dos Subsystem

The NTVDM has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:0dd6 IP:010d OP: 65 63 74 69 6f


Any help would be appreciated,

What is the current version you have Civ 4 patched to?

My Civ 4 Build info:

Civ Version: 109
Save Version: 101
Build Version: 1.0.9.1722 (41375)
Build Date: Tue Dec 06 11:16:45 2005
Build: Final Release
Mod Name: None

Will patch 1.61 work? If so try 1.74 after you have patched to 1.61.

Could you please tell me how to download Patch 161 instead of Patch 171?

You can download them on Civ Fanatics here:

Civ IV 1.61 Patch
Civ IV 1.74 Patch

Save the file to your computer then run it. Do not have Civ running when you do this.

I just wanted to confirm that this fix does work, at least for some people (me, for example, when I was forced to reinstall the game on my reformatted hard drive).
