Ethiopia: The Land of Wonder

It's times like these that I wish Civ4 had that feature from Civ3 where galleys and other coastal ships could go into open waters but they had a chance of becoming lost forever.

You know i've never played Civ III. In fact I only really know two things about it. One is that the RNG apparently let even the strongest units in the game have a 1-32 chance of loosing. Number two is that thanks to the weird RNG that gave us the Spearman VS Tank meme.

Yeah, the feature I mentioned was the only one I missed. Well that and the feature in cities that let you see everything. It took everything into account like environment, coastal areas, rivers, buildings, and wonders.

edit- Anyone heard of "At The Gates"?

yeah, the rng was terrible, but not as bad as it's made out to be

the rest of the game was pretty good

though civ 2 is better than civ 3

which, is very similar to the civ5<civ4 conundrum

let's hope there is a pattern and civ 6 is amazing :D

I feel so alone because I love civ 5 :p I like civ 4 more but i still really like civ 5

We should build some Islamic Missionaries to have religious unity and slow down the research to stimulate the economy

it's not that i don't like civ 5 (well, i hate vanilla civ 5, but the expansions are really good :p)

the only thing i hate about civ 5 is the happiness mechanic and lack of moddability(sp?) compared to civ 4

were it not for mods, i would rank civ 4's bts at only slightly better than civ 5's bnw

Yeah, I liked the happiness mechanic but I guess because it was so easy :p

I disagree with that. We are extremely backwards and need better technology.

Which is funny as I remember the Civ 5 was supposed to be "The Most Moddable Civilization ever" which turned out to be a big lie.

I agree with that :p There are no full conversion mods like there are in civ 4 (as far as I know).

Since this seems to have gotten lost in the posts i'll quote this so CaterpillarKing can see.

I saw it, I just don't think it is what we need. We need technology.

easy my butt

it wasn;t that bad in G&K, i could still warmonger everyone to death and stay below -10 unhappiness

then BNW made even a tiny bit of unhappiness bad

to top it all off, now my economy might crash when i go to war because of trade routes.

as much as BNW was amazing, it lost the whole focus on big empires when all you needed was 3 to 4 cities.

Im ok with playing small, it's not that bad

the bad part is that without war, the game loses a decent chunk of the excitement factor which made it so enjoyable.

that shiver down your spine when you conquer a city

though civ5's culture system is lightyear's better than civ4's...

/rant

Very well but if we aren't careful well get run over. Also while I may not be the Foreign Adviser might I suggest sending a warrior via Arabia to check other civilization's out? We'll avoid the dangers of the sea if we go by land.

Fine with me.

I think you tried to force your civ 4 methods on civ 5. I always had massive empires spanning the globe. Then again though, I played on Chieftain or Warlord most of the time :p

back on king and prince i could handle the hit and keep expanding (often to more luxuries)

but since moving up to emperor or immortal on civ 5 about a year ago, even a small hit to production and commerce can set you further behind the AI, and by consequence, cost you the game.

you know what i really miss though?

how in civ3 bombers could kill off pop, i really wish i could do that in 4 or 5 to get the ridiculous late game disorder times down

I haven't played 2 or 3. I played alot of the original colonization and about 3 seconds of civ 1 :p They're free because the companies that made them don't exist and are abandonware now.

i started with 3 around the time it came out.

I was just a wee lad and my dad had bought it for himself and then let me play it

i then took a long hiatus from the series before getting civ 4 about 2 years ago and then civ 5 that Christmas.

as for civ 2, i got it off ebay 9 months ago :p
