MOREAU
A mad wizard has created mutant animals. Spawn a number of animals of various types, and hit them with mutations. Spawn them all at a Barb city, or on a remote island! Perhaps also spawn a barbarian archmage with Chaos magic.
PRINCESS
Triggered on collapsing a lair - a beautiful princess has been rescued, this is a special non-combat unit who must be taken to one of your cities where she will be able to cast a spell which increases happiness for a certain time. Possibly, every barbarian within 10 squares will move toward her to try to recapture her!
This could also be a Quest type, with the player informed that that Princess has been taken to this particular lair and must be rescued fast (leave it too long and she turns evil, and though you don't see any chacge, when she casts the spell it does Something Rotten instead!)
HERO RISING
When a unit levels up, it is revealed that in fact their success is all down to one man. Options, leave him in the unit (unit gains +1 XP from each combat) or make him a Hero (unit loses all XP, gain a new Hero character)
CIVIL WAR
Choose a city to side with. One of your other cities declares independance (becomes barbarian). All units in this city convert too. Any unhappy cities switch to the new leader (also becoming barbarian). Gain temporary happiness in chosen "home" city as discontented people are driven out. Triggered when cities have large unhappiness.
REBEL LEADER
Spawn a Barbarian aligned Hero. Hero attracts a number of units. Unhappiness and Crime rises in all your cities while this hero lives. (the people are in fact happy, but not particularly helpful!)
