Every day I come to this board.

There's some kind of technical error going on in the 2K forums, which is why you're seeing that voodoo spam. Our engineers are working on it.

I thought someone was just roleplaying Kavitha's new Unique Specialist from the patch:

"Vashikaran Specialist": +1 :science:, +1 :health:, +1 :strength:
Costs 2:commerce:, all your dignity

Every day, looking for news of the patch. It's been at least a month. :(

On a side note, the official 2K boards are flooded by indian voodoo love potion spam.

WHEN IS THE PATCH.

Don't tell me, I am still waiting for game release! :D

At this point they've taken so long to release it I'm actually starting to be optimistic about it. Delaying it this long is a dangerous move which I take as a sign some genuine work is being put into it.

It's certainly raising the stakes, at any rate. If the patch fails to deliver having been delayed this much I believe that will spell the end of BE and be a irreversible blow to Firaxis' reputation.

Of course, speaking of 'reputation'... This whole launch disaster could have been easily and efficiently avoided had they simply invited in a select group of people for a closed beta test. The worst problems would have been identified and solutions proposed within minutes. Many of the huge problems that plague the game are so easy to solve there was a major community patch released within 24h of the game's release that does a great deal to improve the game. Yet, the game was released as is, with no regard given for the community's concerns.

The patch has not been "delayed" as no "release date" has been specified so far as I am aware. It may be taking longer than you would hope, or your own self-expectations though. It may be delayed for the Mac / Linux OS due to another developer having the port over the changes however.

Regarding a "closed beta", I thought that was what Firaxicon served as in part, as participants were able to play the first 250 turns for a while, and then I think they were given free reign on it during the off hours. It doesn't take long to realize the problems that trade routes posed, or the lack of a "Building complete" screen for fans willing to pay for a con to quickly point out the mistakes. I don't remember reading about any really negative things coming from Firaxicon. Was there an NDA? It was only after the first week or two after release where these boards were full of so many dissatisfied threads.

But the game was probably in feature lock by the time the Con took place. The best they could do was prepare balance changes once the game was released. Does anyone know more about this?

I purchased every incarnation of CIV all the way back to 1 but BE to me has been the most disappointing and as someone else said in these posts for me it will be the last time I pre-order, Firaxis are just taking the p*ss if you ask me.

So yes as a CIV lover I will get CIV:VI but not pre order I will wait and see what the forums say first next time.

But still hoping that I haven't wasted my money all together and hope Firaxis pulls a rabbit out of the hat and fixes BE to a much better standard all though I am not naïve enough to know it is going to take expansion packs as well.

Let's be honest BE is a mod of a game built on a game engine that had function issue's to start with. It was developed under time constraint, with cheaper labour and less resource input. With those basic things the game will never see full stability and will suffer random errors and self-propagating bugs until the end of time, even the most up to date Civ V has problems every now and then because the engine was smashed together and then a game built on top.

We've seen this kind of thing before, actually we deal with it every day on many of our PC's, Microsoft Windows itself. Basic framework developed in a rush to beat a competitor/take market control then a UI attached with a bunch of functions haphazardly thrown it, now after many incarnations Windows is still plagued with problems owing to a bad framework from the start and no time taken to redesign for stability as sole function then ability then beauty.

These problems are actually not problems with the games, the software used in development, the computers used to develop them, the employee's who are paid to meet a deadline, or even the boss who pushes that deadline. The problem is human desire and the satisfaction of that desire unrestrained, we are each victims of our own choices, when indulged enough anything can become a problem and society has indulged humans to the point of horrid laziness and abhorrent incompetence. :)

Just my 2 cents on the issue's plaguing BE. ;)

Edit: Fixed spelling errors, I could have left them, indulging my laziness since society no longer demands correct, spelling or grammar, or even word and sentence structure, as long as it sounds like it. But then where would I be as a person? Just another cow chewing the same field as all the others? No thanks I'll take flight and soar like an Eagle. :)

Pretty sure it's the trade routes actually.

LoL That's only the tip of the iceberg on evolutionary decline through practiced behaviour. Let's not start on the real issue, the validity of human existence. ;)

Yeah, let's not.

Just like the title of this post. I come here everyday looking for news on a patch.

I HAVE $60 EARMARKED FOR THIS GAME. I just need a stinking patch and the majority of this board to say it's playable.

I HAVE MONEY FOR YOU FIRAXIS JUST MAKE A PLAYABLE GAME! I learned from Civ5 and SimCity to never buy before the first patch

I think it's going to take more than a patch. Maybe an expansion-pack (or two).

In a year either they'll be making this game playable or and they'll be announcing Civ VI.

corrected

Civ IV was really playable by the time CivV was announced.
CivV was really playable by the time CivBE was announced.

That is the basic pattern... if you want a good, deep playable game, wait until the sequel has been announced, then buy it.

Yup. And it takes about a year.

Fall of 2015 BE will either be fixed or abandoned with the announcement of the next game.

There was some changes to the Mac version of BE a couple of hours ago according to Steamdb. Some slim hope of things being figured out before the weekend. Although at this point I might want a patch to be released on Monday, with the staff ready to post hotfixes as issues come in.

THe only thing that frustrates me about the patch was that last Weds. before Thanksgiving it was announced they were almost done. If they weren't then don't tease us with an announcement

You know if they hadn't said "We're working on a patch, it'll be done soon" we'd be seeing posts saying, "And Firaxis hasn't even announced a patch yet!" by now.

The problem is not that it takes a while for each Firaxis game to become as good as the one before it, but that in this case Civ:BE simply isn't sufficiently different or interesting enough to put up with that period.

Firaxis seems to start from scratch on each product when most other big franchises have no problem selling annual iterative upgrades. I would certainly buy Civ2015 next year if it included everything from BnW along with a year's worth of improvements and content.
