Well, about 6 months ago I stopped getting email notification for subscribed threads and PM's. I was mighty upset at the time, but I came to live with the loss.

I recently changed my email ISP, and now I get email notifications again :D

However, I only used to get one or two emails a day and this was fine. I am somewhat more of a heavy user now and I'm getting 40 or 50 emails a day (minimum, maybe a lot more). I really like getting PM email notification, it's what I always have to check manually, and I often forget, annoying other people who expect you to get their PM's in a reasonable time.

So, I go to my options and turn off the 'Use Email Notification' by default?' option, expecting now to only get PMs. However, I still get all the 'subscribed threads' emails, and this is not acceptable (at least not to my boss, who see's me pick up 50+ non-work related emails every day). I have to find a solution in the next 24 hours or I will have to change my email to something not valid, or create a dummy account on hotmail or something else equally unsatisfactory.

Please please please can a mod check my account settings in the database to see what is going on, I really need to resolve this asap...

I think the "Use Email Notification by Default" only applies to *new* threads you post to. You are already subscribed to the threads you are receiving emails on. To stop getting the emails, you might have to unsubscribe from the thread, and then go to the thread and re-subscribe.

Padma is right; you'll have to manually unsubscribe to every thread you've subscribed to previously, to put an end to the deluge. ;)

Common sense will suggest you start with the busier threads first... ;)

 :suicide:

I hope you two are pulling an April Fool's joke a little early here...

Oh well, that's a couple of hours civ playing I will have to skip tonight. There are so many I subscribe too, and some that have dropped off the top 40 in the forum lists, but are very important to me if they ever get posted to again.

Thanks again for the advice.... *groan*

I hate to say it, but the situation might be worse than you think, anarres.

When you are subscribed to a thread, you will get an email when someone posts to it. Period. The "Use Email Notification by Default = No" option only means that you won't be automatically subscribed.

So if you are subscribed to a whole slug of busy threads, you will still get a whole slug of emails. :(

anarres, what was your old email? Cause i haven't been able to get email notifications for months now, i have AOL email.

In any of the e-mail notifications is a link to unsubscribe to every thread you have a subscription for. Clicking that link will erase all your subscibed threads.

Very simple.

yeah i cant vote using AOL browser either..

Switch, thanks for patronising me. :p

If you re-read my post I said that I want to stop getting email, not unsubscribe from all off them. I still want to follow my subscribed threads, but from my user cp, not via email.

Padma,
I have been unsubscribing from threads and resubscribing, and I think it is working. Do you know for sure that all subscribed threads will send emails, even if the 'use email by default' is turned off? One thing worth noting is that one thread was stubborn. I unsubscribed and resubscribed several times and it still sent me emails, but this problem seems to have gone now...

SunTzu, concerning not getting emails, there is another (older) thread here better suited for it:

It was a sensible suggestion. Simply unsubscribing from all threads and then subscribing to the threads you want again may have been quicker.

Dell,
It was not a sensible suggestion, as there was no way of telling all the threads that I was subscribed to, although I really wanted to be subscribed to them (for example strategy threads I created a couple of months ago, that are currently dormant, or mod threads that go for weeks without posts, or many many more examples)

Some threads were old, and maybe 300 to 400 threads down the subscribed threads list. I would never have found them all, so removing the active ones was by far the only sensible suggestion, which is what I did.

Switch,
My :p was kind of tongue-in-cheek, I meant no *real* offense, but a light hearted *wow, thanks* (with a sarcastic voice). Your statement 'Very Simple' assumed stupidity on my part, so I stand by my :p.

Padma,
I am getting weirtd results now. I am not getting subscribed to threads I reply to (like this one), and I am getting email for a selected few of my subscribed threads (that I have removed and added again).

Just so I know, there is no way to be able to subscribe to threads *without* getting emails, while still recieving emails for PMs? Crazy world :crazyeye:

Used to happen to me, but now it seems that on AOL it's working now. :)
