Yeah, really this forum isn't as trashy as it could be if it went unmoderated. This forum is a middle ground where people can come and debate, but first they must learn to respect their debate partners (aimed not so much at you Elden as at theage :) ). When you learn what you can get away with, it really is quite a bit. And as far as finding greener pastures, let me tell you there are FORUMS OF UNSPEAKABLE HORROR out there that make this place look like Woodstock!

Believe me if any of you knew me IRL you would know that when I've made up my mind and am seriously po'ed it takes ages (if ever) to convince me.

I've been considering leaving since the anti-war posters began being banned this was just the last straw.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no!!!

Firstly assume you are right and this was a conspiracy to crack down on anti war protesters. If it happened on the street, you'd be duty bound to protest all the more loudly and often. You wouldn't give up your right to discuss so fast. I hope.

But consider this: this forum has a set of rules. If you police your behavior effectively you can't be banned. You don't get banned for being anti-war (whatever it does to your sentencing hearing), you get banned for spamming, trolling, or flaming individuals or groups. I am as has been said here one of the most vocal anti-war posters on these boards, but I haven't been banned since Thanksgiving, the time that I learned how to play by the rules.

Regretably yes

For an equivalent to what happens here would you still protest if jailed for a week after each protest

Let the anti-war hippie go. Hippies can't take too much critacism, and no confrontation at all.

And yes, if you really wanted to do it, if you were really pationate about whatever you were protesting, you would stay even if jailed for a week after each protest.

Although comparing being banned for a week and being jailed for a week is one of the silliest things i have ever heard.

I am not a hippie and can take confrontation

If comparing a peace march to a post it is reasonable

No if you live to post here a ban is much like being jailed.

But again, Elden, folks aren't getting banned for their views, but how they express them (or often, totally unrelated stuff). You might be profiled for your view, but you don't get banned for it.

Being profiled for being anti-war, this reminds me of many dictatorships which I won't name. In fact F*CK it I will name them because I no longer care if I am banned (I'll still have e-mail so can still finish my PBEM)

1) Nazi Germany
2) Soviet Russia
3) EDIT - Removed in case I change my mind and return here (unlikely)

Ahh, well if you are going to get banned I guess you should go out with a bang.

Well first off Bush is not a dictatorship, he will lose the next election by a landslide. He has already lost; recent polls show more people would vote for any democratic candidate over Bush.

Comparing being grouped in with several people who were banned for expressing their views inappropriatley with Nazi Germany and Stalin's Russia is even more silly than your other comparison. Some might even find it offensive.

That's not really a bang. If you're going to go out with a bang, make it a MOAB-sized bang.

MOAB sized, to do that I'd need to name the unnamed mod in the shirt thread. - Not worth the risk.

P.S. Yeah my meaning was pretty clear.

Like calling a whole continent "pansies"

Enjoy whatever it is you do when you're not here. Do drop in from time to time. This Iraq thing will blow over in time. Then we'll have nothing to talk about and OT should return to thousands of meaningless polls. Which is probably not an altogether bad thing.

Yea just like that. Its on a little bit of a different level, but similar.

PS: Am I allowed to call Europeans pansies or would i get banned and warned?

The forum is against trolling by nationality/geographic region and any kind of insulting towards people who post here which includes Europeans. You also can't merely insult George Bush (also, other leaders, theoretically). You will usually get warned once then banned, unless you go all out and get real nasty. In the end, the best recourse is to act like you are in a crowded but quiet restaurant in an American city you are not familiar with and don't say anything you wouldn't say in those circumstances. For younger/less experienced posters, it still takes time to get past certain kinds of insults...

sweet

well one of those uptight .... nevermind

Who you callin a fool?

theage, you're getting the hang of posting fast. Perhaps the  should have been a  instead. The roll eyes is much more irritating;)
