Expanded Medicaid

Now I'm pretty private on here, but I will say that I live in Ohio.

I'm currently on low-income expanded Medicaid.

So my question is, both as a larger question and for personal reasons, I wonder how long this is going to last? That said, I will most likely earn too much to get it by the end of this year regardless, but that's a whole different issue.

From what I know, expanded Medicaid is pretty goddamn hard to touch. I'm still scared, of course, but I really do wonder what's going to happen.

Even in their current situation, I have a hard time imagining the Republicans just cutting off expanded Medicaid within the next few years, so I feel like I'm probably, personally, not going to be heavily impacted.

Still, it's an interesting line of discussion. Lots of smart people who follow politics here so I thought I'd ask you guys.

Are you speaking of the expansion of Medicaid under Obamacare...a program which Trump is now promising to rescind on Day !?

Yes, of course. He's saying that, but what does that actually mean when the rubber hits the road? It's not going to simply be "Oh, you're in the hospital on expanded Medicaid? Well get out, law repealed!"

I'm talking timetables, etc.

If I had to guess, it will revert back to a co-pay system through community health centers.

I don't know 100% when or how the ACA will look after this administration is done with it, but if there's concern, I'd look into a potential transition to this ASAP.

You know, in the event someone's dying or incredibly ill, it's illegal for hospitals to refuse care. There aren't, somehow, a bunch of people being forced to die of emphysema or fat embolism syndrome in the gutters. The question will again be "who pays?", and there are a surprising number of charitable corporations willing to step up and throw a little help to people in need, most of them religious, but some secular.

I don't think they should, just, off the bat, repeal it. We've invested time and money into the system and haven't yet reached the position to which it was anticipated to be a financial boon. So it's like we paid for something, didn't want it anymore and are just handing it back without refund, and I think that's pretty odd. There will be a main direction, though, to tighten purse strings wherever possible, so it may be what they choose. I just don't know.

I'm picking people's brains and keeping as much of an ear out as I can. Not going to let anything sneak up on me if I can help it.

I'm usually pretty good at sniffing out any charities or benefits I'm entitled to, but I do appreciate the advice.

Searching for rationality from the crowd that wants to repeal Obamacare is a bootless errand.

Definitely worried, just have to see what happens.

Unfortunately, the meat of my personal problems also involves state-level legislation. So I have yet more complexity to sort out. I'll figure something out, but seriously, fudge these guys.

I sincerely hope the Obamacare changes/repeal don't throw a bunch of people out in the cold ( AND THAT WOULD INCLUDE ME!!! ) but, at the same time, I feel like maybe that's all that will wake people up to the Republicans' insanity on the healthcare issue. In some countries universal healthcare is just a given and isn't even partisan.

its always partisan even where it exists as a right for everyone rich or poor and needs constant vigilance or we would have workhouses for the poor and sick again

I swear it's impossible to find any clues as to what I'm going to be facing. How soon will I lose my coverage? That's all I want to know.
