Expanded Mercenaries

This is a nonissue - every civilization gets a free swordsman mercenary when discover currency :-). So everyone gets use of the guild.

One thing I did when first playing around with modding (pre-FF days) was to add a bonus to the player with the Guild HQ. The first part granted Drill promotions to the mercenaries hired by the HQ owner ("the best troops available") but the other meant that if a non-HQ player bought a mercenary, the player with the HQ received a small amount of gold as their cut.

The former is massively superseded by your current system, but the latter may make it more advantageous to found the guild (be the first to currency). I haven't checked how much mercs cost to hire in this mod yet, but 5-10% of the hire price awarded to the player with the HQ should be a benefit for the guild "owner" without being overly powerful. A message that informs you that "A mercenary swordsman was hired by Thessa. You receive 5 gold from the Guild of the Nine." would also provide some intel for the owner (you can keep track of who is hiring which type of mercenary).

Could be interesting. This gold should probably be just a cut of the initial investment, not of the gold/turn upkeep for a mercenary.

Perhaps 5% of the initial gold. So if I spend 300 gold for a mercenary, the player with the HQ gets 15 gold as their cut.

The other option I was thinking of is to provide the guild HQ with a building (creatively named "Guild of the Nine HQ") and have it give +1 great commander gpp and allow 2 merchants...
 
How about Tim the Sorcerer from Monty Python's Holy Grail? Maybe twin cast with fire II?

A mercenary captain promotion would be cool. Adding combat bonuses only to merc units.
 
Random suggestion for a unique merc: The Brotherhood Without Banners (Possibly a champion with some combat promos or mobility 1. Promotions are not set in stone.)
