Expansive Dreams

@pigswill
The hypothesis was that he had metal which we can't verify till writing as his capital border popped and new city on the NW coast prevent scouting till then. Are you suggesting that you would rather stick to the original dot map? We would be sacrificing the elephants and sugar from BFCs.

The main benifit I can se to c2 over alt c2 is that the gold can be worked much faster (1st ring) and as you can see from the above screen our economy is already tanking.

My vote would be for the original c2...

I could give a rats *** if we lose the stone.
To be honest...I could also care less if Wang gets the iron.
Would we rather have him build axes and swords or protective archers???

We are an aggressive leader so our axes and swords will be combat one out of the box and his wont. Advantage us!
I say lets take advantage of our leader traits while hopefully negating his.

Besides if our economy is tanking...lets settle a better long term site like c2.

Thats a good point sturick (regarrding the PRO trait that didn't occure to me).

Ok i'll finish up and settle c2 and get the gold oline.

Attack Barb with Impi (NE) and wins.

Start a chop for Ulundi Move the settler towards uMgung to meet up with the Axe.

I notice a cottage near uMgung. Isn't this a production site? Lets keep our worker turns focused on the cities role.

1

Impi attacks Barb archer (W) and wins.

Send a worker from uMgung to join the settler pod going to c1.

What we get
Quest12:
Elite Swords
Prereq: IRON_WORKING AND State Religion
Obsolete: MACHINERY or FEUDALISM or MUSIC or PHILOSOPHY or CIVIL_SERVICE or THEOLOGY
Active/Weight: 25/200
Aim:
Build default number of players for this world size +1 Swordsmen (8 for standard)
Result:
1.All Swordsman units gain the City Raider 1 promotion
2.All Melee units gain the Drill 1 promotion

this is a weird one. if elite swords get first strikes, does that make the samurai the most elite sword unit? anyways, a good event if you ever plan on capturing cities. the city raider option is probably the more useful, just wait to upgrade all of those swordsmen so that they can have CR 2 at level 2. in other words, if you promote them to CR 1, they don't get a boost from completing this quest.

I neglected commerce a bit here (an under exageration I'm afraid) as I wanted to get those settlers out. Commerce and the economy should be our focus for a while as should be increasing our worker force.

I suggest the whip overflow in Ulundi goes to a worker. and the overflow from Nobamba goes to a granary (my gut feeling says food rather than the Ikanda's 20% maintence saving (something like 0.8 GPT).

Priorities should probably be cottaging up Nobamba (will need at least 2 workers if not more) and Bulawayo (at least 2 workers again).

Capital could us a few more cottages to work till we can support more expansion (either peaceful or aggresive).

I would love to settle the c4 site and block Asoka from getting a break out city but it might totally kill our economy and would again require loads of workers. This probably makes c3 the next city site choice as its not stuck in the jungle and isn't to far from the capital. Also if we leave c4 some one will chop it out of the jungle for us...

On the dipo front it look like it might be hard to be friends with Willem as he's in a religion on his own. However he might switch to Hinduism since he founded it.

Maybe we should get a Lib in the Capital and run a scientist or two.

I have tentativaly labled the cities roles. What do you think?

EDIT
Oh yer not sure when it was built but Wang has Stone Henge in his Capital.

The save

First things first...good set grandad.
I appreciate you checking with the group regarding the choice of where to place the city.

No worries about the copper snafu.
We will control Seoul whether its sooner or later doesn't matter. :yup:

Thoughts on the next set....

Yeah we should take a break from REXing for a while.
I say we settle c3 rather than block with c4.
c4 would be so far away from us that maintenance costs would suck.
Plus its not really that great of a city anyways.
I like the border that Nomamba gives us...very easy to defend our west!
Working the gems tile of c3 should offset the increased maintenance.
Unfortunately, we don't have the techs to work any of the other resources.
Perhaps a teeny tiny detour to fishing after math that will allow us to work the fish and potentially run some science specs here down the road.

Grandad, I agree with your city specializations.
Two production, two commerce and c3 is a hybrid in my eyes.
Thats a good mix!

Ulundi needs to be allowed to grow to max levels so no workers and definitely no more settlers here. Building a library works.

I would switch Umgu to a worker however.
Granted working the gems soon will provide a bit of commerce but an extra worker is needed first imo.

Speaking of workers...worker actions I think is going to be crucial to our success for the next two sets or so.
This is what I would do...

We currently have four workers and switching Umgu to one will add another in four turns.

Grandad looks to have started on building the gems mine at Umgu that is needed for the commerce.

The worker near Bulawayo needs to build that farm so we can grow to size 2.
Once at size two we can work the farm and the mine while still growing.
Stagnant is no good.

Ulundi should eventually build the mine on the plains hill.
That way we can work both corn, the cottage, 3 plains mines and have a science spec at size 7. 13 hammers with that setup will be decent.
Once our economy recovers we can unleash the hammer potential of this city by working all the mines.

Nomamba needs lots of attention since its in the jungle.
Getting cottages up before our borders pop and having a pair of workers to build the rice farm after the borders pop. Horses can be built after that.

If we settle c3 then I say we build a couple of cottages and a couple of mines while we wait for the ability to work the fish tile.

I'm sure I have missed stuff...but the important thing I am trying to point out is that we need to put good thought into our worker actions in the next set or two.
No wasted worker actions!

I think Charles Li is up...good luck to you sir!

C3 and working grassland gems seems like a good idea.

Getting cities growing is also a good idea. Lets not forget our half price granaries. Couple of libraries and a few scientists will soon get our tech rate moving forwards. Maths>currency>CoL is a standard path to speed up the economy.

Math > Currency > Fishing > Col
(Chop Economy)
(Trade Economy)
(Food Ecnomy)
(Anti-Maintainance Economy (Used liberally witht he Food-> Whip and the Chop Economy))

Nice analysis sturick.

I agree on switching the Lib out of uMgung as its in line with my own comments about increasing our worker force. If only I had a longer memory so I noticed these contradictions.

Whilst running some sci spec in the near future in Ulundi is agood idea I also think that we could consider this a great Buearuaracy (spelling?) site and that affects commerce and not raw beakers or gold. This means trying to work some cottages here maybe.

If we go for fishing we might also consider the double fish "moai" site to run some specs. This would get the Iron and allow us to get the Elite Swords quest too. Free CR1....

I think I can see why all my offline game economies tank so hard. I can't stop trying to settle and expand!

I can't wait till we have Seoul. Its a GP farm if ever I saw one. Stick the Globe in there later and draft to your hearts content!

Talking of National wonders. What do people think of HE in uMgung? Seems better than Ulundi which would be a good IW city later with those river tiles watermilled.

I'm headed out of town for a wedding this weekend so I wouldn't be able to play either.

Also, sorry for my lack of input this week, I've been crushed with work and I haven't had the time I would have liked to look at the saves and help with the planning. Next week should be much better.

Glad to hear that you are on the mend Charles.
It was your turn to begin with anyways so I say its all yours.

Good luck to you!
