Experiment 626's Solo TDG

I'll have to re-download Sn00py's Greener Terrain and the Smiley Face mod (I wonder if that's HoF legal).

Yes, graphic only mods are legal.

Modifications:
This is regards to using the editor to set up a HOF game. Graphics modifications are allowable (i.e. Snoopy's terrain). So are setting the colors and names of the civilizations. Any other changes beyond this are disallowed.

Here's a refrence to read it your self:

And I will be waiting to see this one submitted. Good Luck, and looking forward to another game.

So I go into the Computer Store today to complain about what happened to all of the files on my D Drive. I explained to the Sales Rep that I told the Service Department not to touch the D Drive at least twice. He apologized and seemed a bit confused about why they would wipe the D Drive when they were just installing the new OS on the C Drive. He told me that if I bring the computer back in, he could potentially un-erase the files. If I get the computer into the store today before they close (7 PM), I could probably have my computer back on Wednesday. 'No guarantees', he said, 'but I should be able to restore something'.

So I will be offline until at least Weds.

See you then, and thanks for your patience!

I just want this nightmare to end! :please:

Drive D?

I thought you were still swapping out 5.25" floppies on Drive A to get things done!

Are you sure you're ready to upgrade to Windows 95?

:groucho:

But 5.25" floppies go in drive B!

I'm so sad. :( They ran every Recovery Program they had on my D Drive, and they couldn't find . . . um . . . squat! (Yeah, that's the word that I want there). All 18 GB of Documents and Images and Save Game files are gone. Gone Forever. I know that I can just download the 1888 AD of TDG Game 001, but that's not the point.

I asked what happens now, and they basically told me that I was out of luck. They lose my stuff, and I'm out of luck.

Excuse me. I think I'm going to  now.

I did some digging in this thread. The last SaveGame that I posted was 1850 A.D.!!! I thought for sure that I posted the 'We Win!' save at 1888 A.D., but obviously, I didn't . . . :(

While I've been very slowly rebuilding what I lost in terms of docs and images, I've been playing a practice game (I'm Japan. AIs are Portugal, Ottoman, Iroqouis, and Celts). I find myself doing the exact same thing that I did in this first game. I'm expanding in one direction, instead of a circle around the Capitol City. Why do I do that?!! Once again, I'm leaving my backside hanging in the wind, just begging for someone to come along and attack me. Will I ever learn? :crazyeye:

The game has a decent starting point with IVORY just outside the fat 'X'. The Ivory lets me build the Statue of Zeus. Unfortunately, building The Statue of Zeus triggers a Despotic Golden Age.

Would it be better in the 'Official' Game to make a beeline for Monarchy to avoid the Despotic Golden Age?

I'd say just put off the SoZ for a little while and go for the Republic slingshot. There's a good chance that if you have ivory, no one else does, and the slingshot's easy to pull off on regent.

In the 'Official' Game, I'll be trying for a Conquest Victory. Wouldn't Monarchy be better for Conquest than Republic?

That debate's been going on for quite a long time, and most of the evidence favors republic. Monarchy's advantages over republic are higher unit support and the absence of war weariness. However, you get no commerce bonus in monarchy and have lower unit support than despotism for most of the game. With republic, unit support is low and units beyond the support limit cost 2 gpt instead of 1, but the commerce bonus makes up for that after a while, especially once your cities grow and you've got a few markets built. In addition, as you conquer more cities, your unit support costs will go down. Also, you're playing on a continents map, right? If so, it'll be important to get to navigation or magnetism as quickly as possible, and republic allows far faster research than monarchy.

Perhaps WarMaster Marsden could give us his thoughts on this debate.

Mr. Pres. I think you will find republic works very well.

It may be interesting for you to try two games, one with each govt. and see how you feel about the two.

That's not a bad idea . . . Thanks! :D

Well,... Republic is better for almost every situation, but because your current game is to be played with Japan, a religous civ has a short anarchy and you can consider switching without the excessively painful anarchy that non religous civs get.

Usually I'd say shoot for Republic and don't look back but it can be a more demanding government, while Monarchy is lower benefits, less work. Let's compare.

Republic=more income, less troop support, war weariness, no MP
Monarchy=no extra income, good troop support, no war weariness, MPs available.
Again Republic gives more, but it's more work keeping the peasants in line, where in Monarchy you can have the oversized inefficent, but supported, military keep them in line.

Another factor that is situation based is, how many luxuries do you have on hand, 3 or more makes republic even more attractive but 1 or none looks better for monarchy.

How's that for a windy answer?

You might even find that feudalism is useful once you have conquered some cities!! poprushing without despotic penalties, plus wierd unit support...

hmm. I just noticed that Mr President is a Colts fan.

I fear that we have nothing more to say to each other - I'm not sure I'm allowed, by Massachusetts law, to talk to a Colts fan - I'll have to call my lawyer and see....

We sure as heck have been waiting a looooooooooooong time for a World Championship in these parts. Peyton Manning is the MAN! :goodjob:

Have your peeps call my peeps, and maybe they can :hammer: out an agreement.

Does this mean that you're not going to help on the next game? :mischief:

I have to say, I will miss the near mystical hold the Pats had over the Colts. Now they actually have to beat them on the field again to put the fear back in their eyes where it belongs!!

That part of the Commonwealth law concerned itself with those persons who conducted their affairs in such a way as to cause an unfavorable comparison with various portions of a colt's anatomy. I don't think it would apply here.

I mean, Mr. President might be
a tin-plated, overbearing, swaggering dictator with delusions of godhood
but he has never acted like a four legged animal.

Being a Colts fan entitles you to an extra exemption on your income tax. It's on the same line (1040.39 I think) as being over 65 and blind.

Wild Idea
Mod a game to have NFL teams instead of Civs. :crazyeye:
