Experiment 626's Solo TDG

Mr. President!!

An excellent 40 years - Joanie is quite the traitor, isn't she!! Are she and Arabia still at war, do you know? I think not.

I have a few recommendations:

A) There is a chance that we have neither aluminum nor uranium. It's not a big chance, since we own half the world, but we should make some preparations. I highly recommend building a fleet of 5-10 transports and load them with much of the army, having them sit in port on the eastern ports - I think we have some good escorts - destroyers and cruisers, but maybe some more destroyers will be good. They have nothing that can stand up to them, anyway.

WIth them, a set of workers and a couple of settlers, we can very quickly go to other continent and take one of those items from the scurvy knaves!!

B) Wall Street is excellent, but it is most effective if we have at 1000 gold in our treasury. We might want to let the treasury grow some.

C) You might have been able to get some crappy towns, but we didn't really do that much damage to them, so I'm not sure we could have. I wouldn't worry about it - you are way ahead of them, so it's not that strange that you don't get anything.

D) vorlon_mi has an excellent suggestion - it may be getting time to start putting crappy towns on wealth - will help the treasury and they aren't likely to build anything useful by the time you win, anyway ;)

Wow, I never had an AI break an active alliance before!

Once again, I'm going to change my opinion. The French need to be taught a lesson! Using:

we should prepare for a punitive expedition. BWAAHAAA!

No really, it's up to you. In previous posts I recomended peaceful trade and mutual benefit, but now I realise they would be getting all of the beneft and we would get a smack in the head. So, Screw em.

I think you will enjoy bombers, they HAVE lethal bombard.

I think I was thinking of higher levels, because the AI are usually not so far behind, as Agent Vorlon kindly pointed out. You can paste em. Y'know, not to kill, just to maim. A carrier or two mixed in the battle group with 4 bombers each, then bomb every resource in range until the ground is cratered. Just fly around wrecking things. Land a bunch of troops and burn down some cities. You don't need to stay on their continent, just unload, destroy, and reload to go to another target.

Good job on the war. On to victory!

I'll keep it in mind. One of the things that I love about my current game is that I haven't had my Golden Age yet.

I realize that this game isn't going to be typical. To have both Korea and Maya not have Horses, Iron, Saltpeter, etc. won't happen every game. The next game that I play, I might find myself in that boat.

Copyrighted, it's going to cost you a nickel everytime you post it.

The check is in the e-mail.

And I really don't think you need to build the UN, but go ahead, it isn't going to change the outcome.

I'd just rather know that I can squash the vote anytime that I like. Knowing France, they'd vote for Arabia just to make sure that I didn't win.

You can consider setting some little burgs to Wealth, adjusting their
food so that they are steady at "Zero Growth" with specialists,
and then forget about them. As the roads are built, and irrigation
around the science farms completed, gather a stack of workers/slaves
near Washington DC and fortify them, so they're easy to find.
These will be your pollution cleaners; when the orange goo crops up,
wake 'em up, and use shift-D (cleanup damage in C3C) to send them
right to your Superfund sites.

Sounds like a plan! :goodjob: And all cities are connected by Railroads now with the exception of the cities on the Southern peninsula which can't be connected by road or Railroad because of the Volcano chokepoint. That's why I bought a Harbor in Saint John, and connected it and Tijuana by Railroad, so everything is connected.

Traitor isn't the word that I'd use. When she declared War, I actually said out loud to the computer screen, 'You little (bleep)!' The word that is preemptively (bleep)ed rhymes with witch!

Are she and Arabia still at war, do you know? I think not.

I really don't think that they ever were actually. Maybe they had an MPP against me.

A) There is a chance that we have neither aluminum nor uranium.

Bite your tongue, man! :p

Maybe I'll do that after I launch. I'm so far ahead in tech that I'll see where all of the Aluminum and Uranium deposits are long before Jezebel and Apu will. I conquer just those parts of their continent, and then nuke 'em from orbit! It's the only way to be sure. I wanna turn Joanie's part of the continent into the Cities of Light! Glowing in the dark, visible from space. She's got it coming!

B) Wall Street is excellent, but it is most effective if we have at 1000 gold in our treasury. We might want to let the treasury grow some.

Not a bad thought at all. I probably won't need to build any more Settlers. The continent is practically stuffed with cities.

C) You might have been able to get some crappy towns, but we didn't really do that much damage to them, so I'm not sure we could have. I wouldn't worry about it - you are way ahead of them, so it's not that strange that you don't get anything.

I just figured out why they hate my guts! I'm way ahead, and I razed about 80% of Maya's cities.

D) vorlon_mi has an excellent suggestion - it may be getting time to start putting crappy towns on wealth - will help the treasury and they aren't likely to build anything useful by the time you win, anyway ;)

That's true enough. Science Farms building Wealth. I like it.

Neither have I. Did Jezebel's rep just go into the toilet like a human player's would for doing that?

Live and let live, I say . . . (Yeah, right!)

I do enjoy bombers, I have enjoyed bombers, especially when they bomb some poor schmuck into oblivion.

Well, that Jezebel sure deserves it. I was just thinking that I should try this:

  1. I win the game by launching the SpaceShip.
  2. I invade the other continent and forcefully seize control of all Aluminum and Uranium deposits.
  3. I build The Manhattan Project.
  4. I build about 100 Nukes.
  5. I declare war on Jezebel, and nuke her off the planet into extinction.
  6. I rebuild my arsenal.
  7. I declare on Apu, and nuke him into extinction as well.
  8. After Arabia and France are gone, I send my Workers over there, and they clean up the mess.
  9. I then build a crapload of Settlers, load them onto Transports, and settle the other continent.
  10. I get every tile on the Beta Continent under my control as well.
  11. The trick would be to see if I can get all of this accomplished before 2050 A.D.

I just wanna see if the little maggots will be satisfied having every Luxury hooked up, so I can finally lower LUX to 0%.

Good job on the war. On to victory!

Thank you, WarMaster!

Thanks for all of your kudos and congratulations (if a bit premature. Like I said, When I hit the 'Launch' button, then I'll celebrate.)

Then you may want to send a small group in HazMat suits down to the S.P.,
to hang out for pollution duty there. You can walk across a volcano,
just not build improvements on it. If the towns are small on that peninsula,
the risk of non-volcano pollution is also small, so you may not have to
worry about it. Most of your pollution will come from the core cities,
esp. the ones with factories.

Pollution drags your score down just a bit, and the RNG gods always seem
to give me a little, just 1 turn before I'm going to win, and I can't get
it all cleaned up   Yet, it still feels good to hit the 'Launch'
button. :D

yes - her rep got smacked by that.

and yes - they were at war - she signed the MA and declared war.

and it will happen more than you think, having AI's without resources, if you expand the way you did here. The best way to ensure that you have all the resources and the AI none is to have all the land ;)

General AutomatedTeller searched the White House for Mr President and his 1st secretary. "I know they are here somewhere - maybe in the William Harding (wonder why it's called that) suite I read about in The Onion, that fine paragon of journalistic virtue. He must be told that the mob, er, people, are hungry for news of our great army!!

"Huh. Where is everyone? How is it that I can walk around the White House without being challenged by anyone? Maybe everyone is on vacation..."

I went around to all 106 cities, and turned all cities that are 50% corrupt (or more) into Science Farms. Miniturization will now be learned in 6 turns instead of 8.

I will try to play tomorrow, but RL might get in the way. Sorry for the lapse in updates.

Btw, Citizen dimaliok, threatening to start a Civil War is treason! Remember that!

I will check in here tomorrow before I play.

That's good, I would have felt bad if I had to shoot you. It's what Warmasters do, you know.

Good job, 25% increase in efficency is definitely significant. Save me a seat in the PPL (and a fruity drink, too)!

excellent.. .once we get research labs everywhere, that should drop to 5 or maybe even 4 turn research for everything else.

I thought so, too. I must remember to change some (if not most) of those Science Farm's production to Wealth! :gold: (I realize that's a Civ4 smilie)

Save me a seat in the PPL (and a fruity drink, too)!

A 'Fruity' drink? How about a Shirley Temple? Like I said: The first round's on me! :D

I'm hoping to be able to drop the SCI slider down to 20% (at most), and still have a 4 turn Research. I'll bump the LUX up to have all of my cities celebrate a WLTP Day as soon as The Internet is built. :borg:

Why do I get the mental image of General AutomatedTeller turning into C. Montgomery Burns from 'The Simpsons'?

Time to play the next Turnset. Later!

Here we go!

During this Turnset, I used my Military to Pillage improvements around certain cities in order to get them at ‘Zero Growth’.

*****

IBT

There really is nothing for Washington, D.C. to build right now while I wait for
Miniturization to be discovered. I set Washington D.C.’s production to ‘Wealth’ for those 6 turns.

Turn 361 (1792 A.D.)

Miniturization in 5.

IBT

Nothing.

Turn 362 (1794 A.D.)

A Settler founds Erie.

Miniturization in 4.

IBT

Nothing.

Turn 363 (1796 A.D.)

Miniturization in 3.

IBT

Arabia and France sign a Peace Treaty.

A-FPeace.jpg

I guess that they were at war all this time, after all.

Turn 364 (1798 A.D.)

Miniturization in 2.

IBT

Nothing.

Turn 365 (1800 A.D.)

Miniturization next turn!

IBT

We have learned
Miniturization! Rocketry is next.

Turn 366 (1802 A.D.)

Welcome (officially) to the 19th Century.

In a flash of brilliance, Albert Einstein invents The Internet in one turn! What a guy!

Rocketry in 4.

IBT

Washington D.C. completes
The Internet!

Internet.jpg

WE ENTER INTO OUR GOLDEN AGE!

GoldenAge.jpg

Turn 367 (1804 A.D.)

In order to get all cities to celebrate a WLTP day during our Golden Age, I spend about a half hour on the Domestic Advisor screen going to each 6+ pop city that has a sad face, and adjusting the Workforce until all of the Unhappy people are placated.

I spend an aggregate 664 Gold to finish 3 Marketplaces in Chicago, Moosejaw, and Miami.

Rocketry in 3.

IBT

All 6+ pop cities begin celebrating a WLTP day!

It’s too sweet for words!

Turn 368 (1806 A.D.)

Rocketry in 2.

IBT

Nothing.

Turn 369 (1808 A.D.)

Rocketry next turn!

IBT

We have learned
Rocketry! Space Flight is next. We have Aluminum!

Turn 370 (1810 A.D.)

Cinderella, Fairy Godmother, Gus, Jaq, Huey, Dewey, and Louie all hop onto the Train, and travel to Thunder Bay. Once there, they build a Barricade on our only Aluminum deposit.

3 vMech Infantry garrison in the Barricaded Aluminum. (“Come and get it, Apu and Jezebel!”)

I can only see 2 Deposits of Aluminum on the other continent. 1 is near Fez (Arabic), and the other lies between Bukhara (Arabic) and Muscat (Arabic).

Space Flight in 5.

End of Turnset

*****

Here is the Information Screen:

1810IS.jpg

We have a new Army consisting of 3 vMech Infantry.

HoGArmy.jpg

And the 1st Cavalry is renamed as per WarMaster Marsden's request:

And here is the savegame file:

sounds good, sir!! We can get space flight in 4 turns if we run a deficit. We might want to do that, so we can spend as much time in a GA building out space ship parts.

btw - a bunch of our core cities have irrigated tiles and lots of extra food. If you change some of the irrigation to mines, you can really jump their production. I got washington to 100 shields, for instance, just by putting all the clowns on tiles and changing some of the irrigations to mines.

We pillaged our own tiles?

Why not just hire specialists until the city was at zero growth?

Really?!! How many tiles and of which kind (bg's, g's, and/or pl's) did you convert for this to happen? Inquiring minds want to know.

Because there was an odd number of food being produced, and the only way to not have +1 Food or a shortage of 1 Food was to Pillage the Railroad. Everything's all even now. Was this the wrong thing to do?

Maybe. Depends. Maybe not. Pillageing seems to remove all improvements, at least when I've done it. Then we have to reimprove the tile, which then makes the whole ordeal seem sorta senseless. We pillage improvements so we can build them back?

This would have been a good time 'mine brown and irrigate green' that AutomatedTeller was talking about and control growth that way. Irrigate a grassland for more food, mine a plains for less food. The true MM way would be to swap tiles between cities to even out the growth. But that takes a lot of time and is very dull work.

I don't have the desire to MM that closely, so what I have done is get a city to slow growth (+1/+2 food) and use MapStat to tell me when they grow and get cranky. Then I'll go in and reassign tiles to keep the people happy and not growing.

Congrats Mr. Prez. It seems that everyone loves you as well they should and better, if they do not want to walk the plank.

Looks like you have this game down cold now. The next one should be great fun. Any ideas for it yet?
