Experiment 626's Solo TDG

Hey, hold on now. Mech infantry can attack in a pinch, but you should be using modern armor (MBT) for attacking. You are about to discover the necessary tech in 3 turns and have all 3 resources so hold off on too many mech inf. and build a lot more MBTs. Actually, you can stop now, you have plenty of mech inf. and put all future production into MBTs and bombers and ships.

Will do. I won't build the Manhattan Project until after I've won. Even if it doesn't count, I wanna nuke Joanie.

More Carriers, Bombers, and Destroyers. Gotcha!

You might want to pick a different civ - maybe an agri civ, or one that has an early UU, so you can see what an earlier GA does.

I'll think about it. Thanks!

I'll play the next Set of Turns about an hour from now.

Later!

I played the next Set of Turns today, but since I had to work tonight, I didn't have time to type up the Journal or post the pics tonight.

I'll try to get them posted tomorrow.

I'm going to  now.

Good night!

Sorry it’s late. Here we go! During this Set of Turns, all of the Cavalry are retired with honors.

Download the save, and look for the vMech Infantry near Tallahassee! :goodjob:

want... to... take... vengeance... on... joanie...

Trust me! That little witch won't know what hit her.

After launching the SpaceShip, I thought that when I did invade the other continent, I'd take every Strategic Resource that they've got, even the Horsies and the Iron. I looked around, and if my eyes aren't failing, they've only 1 Uranium and 2 Aluminum. This could be a ton of fun.

Edit: I was horsing around with HoF MapFinder, but am really unsure on how to get a quality start. What are some of your favorite RuleSets?

Edit #2 (about a day later): Hello?

Edit #3: The President walked around the Palace. He hadn't seen anyone in the past few days. No one was in the War Room. He called out, 'Hello?', only to be answered by the echo.

'Where is everybody?'

After receiving no answer, he grumbled, 'I sense a mutiny!'

Not much happened in this TurnSet, but here are the highlights:

  1. We learn Superconductor! Satellites are next.
  2. Washington, D.C. finishes construction of SS Exterior Casing. (5 of 10 pieces)
  3. Washington, D.C. begins The Manhattan Project as a Pre-Build for the next SpaceShip part.
  4. Toronto switches production from Palace to SS Life Support System.
  5. Salem switches production from The United Nations to SS Fuel Cells.
  6. Salem completes construction of SS Fuel Cells. (6 of 10)
  7. We have learned Satellites! Nuclear Power is next.
  8. Toronto completes construction of SS Life Support System. (7 of 10)
  9. Toronto begins The United Nations (I think) as a Pre-Build for the next SpaceShip part.
  10. Washington, D.C. switches production from The Manhattan Project to SS Thrusters.
  11. Washington, D.C. completes construction of SS Thrusters. (8 of 10)
  12. We learn Nuclear Power! The Laser is next.

If all goes well, (and it should), I should launch this bird during the next TurnSet. I might even finish it off tonight after I get something to eat.

In the immortal words of Pink Floyd: 'Is there anybody out there?'

Oh brave wins of the sky, reaching for the Stars. our blood cries out for
war
War
WAR!
even as we soar to the stars, our wings spread in the earthen skies. with the mighty suns and bombs galore, we fly for the call.
war
War
WAR!

Hello Mr. President!!! No, no mutiny - just end of summer!!

We are very excited for the launch, Mr President!!

You must be psyched, no? first win on regent!!

on mapfinder: it kind of depends on what I'm trying to go for. Usually, I set it to look for a map with freshwater and either a wheat or a cow, at least.

For a game where research is important (SS, 20K, diplo), I look for at least 2 river hexes.

for a 20K game, I look for a cow, river and a couple of hills.

Some people don't want swamp or jungle or tundra.

Ottoman's are one of my favorite civs. I like science and industrious, and Sipahi just kick ass in the last middle ages.

In the Immortal words of Howard Cosell:

IT'S OVER! IT'S ALL OVER!

The President addresses the television audience:

'My fellow Americans! Today marks a remarkable achievement in America's history! We stand on the threshold of a new age! In just a few moments, this wonderful SpaceShip will launch, and brave American men and women will begin a most incredible voyage. They will travel to the stars, and colonize a new world!'

The SpaceShip's engines fired, and the huge ship lifted off.

The President said, 'Godspeed, Eagle One!' as the ship disappeared into the sky.

This victory wouldn't have been even remotely possible if it weren't for the advice of some very special people.

WarMaster Marsden, General AutomatedTeller, General CommandoBob, Admiral Eltrai, Major Tribute, Special Agent vorlon_mi, et al . . .

Thanks to all of you! You each deserve a , a :salute:, and a :trophy2: .

My first Victory on Regent level on the very first attempt!

I'm so happy! WE WIN! :trophy:

Here's some pics:

I have a score of over 3000! [party]

That's a lot of time to spend on one game. :)

And the Ranking:

Ranking.jpg

I have never in my entire 'career' of playing any Civ game gotten such a high Ranking!

NOW! I will continue to play the game, and nuke Joanie off the map! She's had it coming for a long time now. I'm near the end of the Modern Age techs, and Arabia and France are both still in the Industrial Age.

As for the next game, right now I'm leaning towards being either the Mongols or the Vikings. I'm going to take a week or two off to gather my strength.

I started this game on January 24, 2006, and today is August 25, 2006. This game took me 7 months to complete!

Thanks again for everyone's help. When I start the next game, I'll post a notice here on this thread.

I :salute: you all!

Congratulations Mr. President!!! Well done, sir!!!

the next one will take less time - hell, I would assume that a lot of that time was in writing up *incredibly* detailed logs!!

But you learned a huge amount. My guess is that you could take on monarch now, if not emperor, if you so chose. Or you can just stay on regent and play a different style of game, too ;)

I'll stay on Regent for now, and go for a Conquest Victory next game. What should I have MapFinder look for in a good starting spot?

quick question, what was the culture needed for a cultural victory?

In a normal game, it's 20,000 in a single city or 100,000 combined total of all of the cities in your Empire.

In this game, I turned Cultural Victory off. The only ways to win were SpaceShip :trophy: and Diplomatic.

well, what would make a good starting point? maybe the way to think about it is:

what do you not want? what do you really want? What would be nice?

Part of it depends on what civ you are playing, of course.

just figuring some things. even without the space ship, well, Let's see. you could have won through domination, Conquest, and you would have won by culture on turn 495, if not much sooner if you activly sought that path at this point.0 just wantted to figure out that little tidbit.

Originally posted by General AutomatedTeller:

No tundra, marsh, desert, flood plains (I hate disease), jungles, mountains, or volcanos!

what do you really want?

A Settler Factory would be nice. Since I'll be going for Conquest next time, something that produces a lot Shields and food would be nice, too. Strategic and Luxury Resources would be great also! Lots of Rivers for $$$!

huh. Now I'm gonna miss this... :(

The thread will still be active. I'll be around. I just won't be playing for a bit. I have some RL issues to take care of.

I'll keep thinking about which civ to play.

well, sounds like you want at least 1 cow, cattle or wheat, plus a river.

You can specify 0 swamp, jungle, tundra, desert, floodplains - though, you might want to try to create a settler factory where you have a floodplain start at some point.

you can specify having a lux resource in your start position, but I usually don't - not that many positions have a cow and a lux in it, so it just takes mapfinder a longer time to run.
