Exploration thread

N on 20 in any case. :)

Does that mean that we now only have one explorer? :(

Doesn't anyone else feel the urge to climb every mountain and ford every stream, especially in the SW. :mischief:

We need him there for MP duty. Yes, we want to scout more, but that will happen as we found towns and send out more warriors. For the short term, it's much better to be able to run high science.

well, I think we have at least 2 gem and 3 dyes near us - with only 5 civs, my guess is that there aren't more than 4 of most luxes my guess is that dyes are a monopoly or near monopoly and that no one else will be able to trade gems.

Found more gems.

Looks like Choi can go north one more time. That's where I vote to send him for turn 21.

I agree with N on 21.

north is good. Do we have 4 dyes and 3 gems? or 3 and 3? if it's 4 and 3, then we almost certainly have a monopoly on dyes and a near monopoly on gems, which is very good for us. Given the extra food at the start that will help us keep up with the agri civs in # of cities if not size, we are looking better and better ;)

Agree with N. And then E probably.

Could it be that every civ is on their own island and has a monopoly on two luxes?? No, there are only 8 in total. So some of the luxes will have to exist near multiple starts...

If we have a monopoly on a Lux, then I would assume each team to have a monopoly on one as well. The second Lux may not be monopoly, but could be extremely common - among 2 or 3 or 4 civs, even.

I'm still not certain that we are on our own continent. Imagine that: we have a lock on one Lux on the continent, our nieghbor has a lock on another. That sets up an a priori trade geometry that could lead to continental teams. :crazyeye:

Doesn't really matter IMO, but IIRC you have only a limited amount (or space) of attachments overall, so using an external hosting service will probably be better in the long run.

hey - do you guys prefer the imageshack images, or the littler ones? I've never used imageshack, but I can definitely do so.
I prefer the forum's internal feature. Imageshack was blocked once at work (don't know why I can use it now) and might be blocked again. It always opens some spam window and is slightly less convenient.

I say we send Choi east for turns 22 and 23. If we're not on an island then we choose the wrong direction to explore first. :(

E for next move clearly.

We need an exploration strategy that will tell us whether we are on an island or not. I think our current plan is to found Red Dot City and build a curragh to explore north. Perhaps we might want that floaty thing to go south while Choi fells out the northern coastline.

Sound like a good plan to me. With Choi obviously going N-ish, it would make sense to send our first curragh south.

I'd send it north. It would atke ~5-7 turns before we passed our known area.
I would rather sail north and look for opportunities to cross the ocean.
