How do you people explore in Civ V? Im in 1940s late game on an earth map and most of europe, all of australia, and half of africa are still unexplored to me. I've sent out scouts but they dont do :):):):), and caravels are nice but not fast enough.

Should I spam out scouts early game or something? Kind of miss the trading of maps from Civ IV...

I manually chug my scouts (I typically build 2) out for about 100-150 turns, then set them to auto-explore. If I map out the continent I am on, I send them to sea on auto-explore, and will add a deep sea ship or two to the mix when I get them.

I would suggest building destroyers... they have a really good range of sight. You should be able to explore fairly quickly with those

a few caravels are all you need for exploration, just build them when you first unlock them, and send them off to explore immediately. If you don't have open borders with every civ, your scouts won't be able to see the interior of other civ's though.

Sometimes I just don't really care that much. Reveal the important stuff and forget about the rest.

If you play on Epic speed or slower it isn't an issue either, you have enough turns to just stick a caravel and a scout on auto and they'll get the job done just fine.

Early in the game, it's usually worth it to build at least one trireme and set it on explore.

I'd add that I'm really annoyed that once you get to the modern era, you still can't reveal the whole map despite the fact that the game is almost over at that point (turns wise) and realistically, you should have the technology to see the whole world.

There is mod that makes it so when you unlock the tech Satelittes the whole world is revealed. :)
