I dont really want to bother trading or whatever, since they were destroyed in real life. I mean is it a real possibility or will i face severe penalties, making it not worth it.

It's certainly a strategy. It weakens you later in the game because you have to trade with Europe at exorbitant tax rates, but that's not the end of the world if you have a ginormous gold stash at turn 100... ;)

This is what is known as the "spanish conquistador" strategy...

San Martin is perfect for this strategy. :) You end up with stacks of uber promoted veterens.

always did that in old colonization. Well, almost anyway... and neither did any conversions, so absolutely none if the redskins were saved from my wrath.
Always kicked out the other euros repeatedly aswell.. kinda fun to sink their last ship while doing that :D
Oh and naturally a bunch of those uberforts that sink ships that got too close, great fun to close off the whole caribean..

Anyway.. usually some faraway tribes did survive, just because they were on the other side of the map, but sometimes if they killed some units of mine i could chase them down in righteous fury

My thoughts:

Use the tribes early for educating your colonists, place missionaries in the nearest tribes to gain free colonist natives. Once taxation from your king gets high start heavier trading with natives as it can be more lucrative. When the natives have no more money to trade for goods they rarely build it back, or if they do it is very slow; at this point they become expendable. Wipe them out mid game to build up your military units strenghts, gain treasure units and more free natives.

If the opportunity arises in the beginning to attack and survive I would do it. With all the treasure you get, send to the king and try and get enough for a Galleon. Once you get the galleon you can transport treasure back to Euro without penalty.

While there is no upkeep for sending out a raiding part except for the Incas it barely seems worth the effort to divert the resources. You mostly get treasure which ties up a galleon, and most of the treasure seems to be worth a couple hundred gold at best. That said, a couple of soldiers for stack defense, a handful of cannon (I used four my last time) and a couple of dragoons can clear out the entire world eventually - without any losses unless you rush things or piss off the RNG gods.

You would make Pizarro proud.

yeah, they get so damn demanding eventually... and start sniping colonists you move to new choisy spots... so they just have to be cleaned out.
