F1 2004 Season

I believe Ralf said he couldn't shift up from fourth with his broken gearbox. Alonso may not have had much other choice than to do what he did.

The Williams shouldn't have been that slow that it was so easy for Alonso to go round the outside. Although I still feel that Alonso should have slowed down himself rather than risking everything.

It was a technical failure. Not anybody's fault.

Are we still talking about Ralf? As he already knew that his car wasn't working properly so he could have backed off before the tunnel...

I don't really know who to blame for this incident but I'm under the impression that Alonso is reckless. Remember Brazil last year? Under double waved yellows he went at full speed round the last corner straight into the wreckage of Webber's car which ended the race.

Looking at the footage of the Monaco tunnel, just before Alonso crashed, the one thing that strikes me is why is Alonso going so wide round Ralf?

You have to give some room when overtaking and as Alonso is going round the outside, Ralf is pulling over to the inside slightly so the difference probably looks worse than it actually was.

Result from the European Grand Prix in Germany:

1 M. Schumacher (Ferrari)
2 R. Barrichello (Ferrari)
3 J. Button (BAR)
4 J. Trulli (Renault)
5 F. Alonso (Renault)
6 G. Fisichella (Sauber)
7 M. Webber (Jaguar)
8 J. Montoya (Williams)

Why the hell did Sato try to overtake Barrichello when he was so far behind? And well done to Button for his 5th podium finish of the season.

It was confusing... I guess he thought that if he didn't try to overtake soon then it would be impossible to achieve later on but it was a stupid risk...

I wasn't able to watch the race (It was very early in the morning here so i was sleeping). I'm gonna watch later. Nice to see Renault and BAR doing so good.

It was pure madness by Sato. He should have got a penalty if his engine didn't blow, just like last week...

After the first lap I though, "Woo yeah, Mclaren are finally gonna do well in a race this season" - then they retired.

I think the ranking of the European Grand Prix will be the same than the ranking of the Season Championship :

1- Schumacher
2- Barichello
3- Button
4- Trulli
5- Alonso

I'm despaired of this season. I don't understand why McLaren and Williams are so bad, it seems there's a gap between Ferrari and all the other cars which is impossible to reduce. I don't even see how it could get better next season !! :(

The only way it could be made better is if Schumacher retired.
If Schumacher retires, Barrichello will be next World Champion.

Possible, but I could see Ferrari collapsing if Schumacher retired. Even if Barrichello did win the championship, at least it's a different person winning it and it would be a closer championship.

The only problem the F 1 has is, that BMW and Mercedes didn´t make their homeworks. So they are not a challenge for Schumacher. And that´s the main problem. We have a superior driver and a superior car without a real challenger. And that´s not only because of Schumacher.
