Failed to Initialize Renderer

Anyone tried the omega drivers at http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php

Someone said
go to ATI's site and download their Catalyst driver removal tool. After you uninstall and reboot, install the specially optimized drivers (they work perfectly fine for all games!) from this website: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php

This fix worked for me... as far as the game comes up.

My system:
Dell Inspiron XPS
ATI Radeo 9800 with 256 meg video
P4-3.4

Ahh the patch worked for me. My $50 investment is no longer a waist. I'm just glad I didn't spend a lot of time trying to figure this out.

edit: I've since gotten the GeForce 4 MX440 to run civ4 without the terrain blackouts. This card is a viable rout to getting civ4 working. Thanks to Comraddict's TnL thread for correcting my mistake.[/QUOTE]

i have a similar card like you a geforce 4 mx 440 i tried the systemrequirement lab thingy soemone posted and they say i pass the minimum requirements and that i have hardware t&l

but you say such a card doesnt work? and i will recieve the card tommorow

Actually there is a Win2K version made by someone else.

this worked for me too! and judging from the lack of activity on this thread in the last 24 hours, it must have worked for everyone! i got a direct IP game going with a friend last night. tremendous!

Huzzah the pakbuilder worked for me as well! I wonder if the whole uninstall everything on my computer, deleted random dlls and reinstall things in odd orders that the support page recommended BEFORE the nice simple pakbuilder fix would've worked. Hrm who cares.

I´ve got the topic error-message on my system, a amd 64 3200 with ATI RX600
256 mb.
First I unibstalled the game. Second I uninstalled with the ati-uninstaller, installed the new drivers with catalyst control-center and rebooted. Then I installed the game again and it did work fine.

The reason why I´m posting this is, that something I don´t understand happened too. After the procedure wmv-files didnt work any longer. I had to reinstall windows-media-player to be able to watch them.
Maybe this could be a hint what´s wrong, for those who still have problems?

i'm going to go out on a limb and say yes. additionally, it won't hurt anything to try it anyways.

Im having problems with my copy (like everyone else)

I downloaded it and started playing it and the movie was fine and everything
but when i tried to start a game, it loaded up to the point where it says "done" then nothing happens, it just stops right there.
here are some of my specs;
Dell xp laptop
256mb ram
ATI mobility radeon x300 64mb
help!
